If purchasing a THIRD macbook battery wasn't necessary for work, I wouldn't do it. This is ridiculous.... a PC desktop lasts longer than ONE single MAC battery. That's crazy. I would rate it 0 stars if I could.

I had to get a replacement battery for my MacBook. It was about 6 months before the battery would barely hold a charge. On a full charge, the battery would die after 2 hours. Now, the battery won't charge. Ridiculously expensive for such a shoddy battery.

    Battery Woes

My first battery died within 6 months of purchasing my Macbook and Apple kindly replaced it (although I did have to pay to ship the old one to them) The replacement battery lasted about 6 months as well but this time when I complained the response I got was "Your computer is no longer under warranty" but you can buy a new battery. I was pretty choked and have been using my Macbook as a desk top computer for the past 2 years refusing to give Apple any more of my money for their shoddy "Made in China" products.

I have been using the Mid-2007 black MB model for over 4 yrs now. I have over 800 charge cycles on my battery. And holds around 90% of the battery power. I calibrate it every month. I at least use the computer for 12 hrs every day with 100% charge up and discharge.

My exhaust fan stopped working, hence got it replaced. during this recent repair, the service engineer informed me that the battery had started to expand and that it will only last another 200-300 charge cycle effectively meaning 9-12 months with the kind of usage I do. Others have mentioned $129 is steep. In India, the price is INR 8800 ($199). So what should I say about the pricing here. Hope to replace my MB to a MBP or MBA when the battery dies. Otherwise I had no issues with the machine. Have upgraded RAM and runs latest version of SL. Its been a work horse for me.

I purchased my Black MacBook in 2008 and I have upgraded the ram and HD, and never had any problems with it. just recently my battery is starting to show its age. I only get two and a half hours of movie watching time on it and four and a half hours of web surfing. I use my computer for work and for personal every day and the power cord has never had any issues nor has the computer itself. I don't know how poorly everyone else treats their computer, but mine is still working like new.

Original battery lasted 3 years. Replacement lasted 6 months

This is a function of the computer design. It must be. We own a white and a black MacBook bought about the same time. We also own a newer Macbook Pro and an older Macbook Pro 17inch. The latter two computers work like a charm - no failing power cords, no failing batteries.

But the white and black macbooks have been a disaster. I'm replacing the hard drive in the white macbook having already had to replace the one in the black. We replaced both power cords. We've had to have the cases repaired for known defects (cracking) twice. Now I'm needing a third battery with the current one literally dying at the six month mark.

The first battery lasted 3 years and over 1,000 cycles. The second battery died at six months and shows 300 cycles. That's not possible given that I use an iMac for office work and an iPad for traveling. That would literally mean I was charging and discharging the laptop twice a day 7 days a week for 6 months. It's almost as if the replacements were designed to fail before you ever open the box.

At this rate (one power cord, two replacement batteries) I should probably just buy a new computer. But I'm angry. I've been a Mac devotee since the 80's and still have some of the equipment. None of my computers has ever been as poorly built as these - or had as many problems. I wish the black macbooks were covered by the "lemon" law. Worse - we were charged extra for black compared to white.

    Come on Apple. Really?

I can't believe Apple has not addressed this?

My battery just died out of the blue and refuses to charge....what a disappointment!
Now I have to shell out another $129 plus dollars? Not fair or right!
I have older macs that are still alive and kicking!

Purchasing a 3rd battery now. 2nd one is only about a year old and will not hold a charge. called support in the past and they try to calibrate the battery but it doesn't work. They wouldn't replace my battery. They should be replaced for free. They need redesigned for old and new Macbooks.

    Expansion problems

My first battery lasted almost 3 years. I replaced it just before warranty expired due to expansion that was lifting my macbook off the table. I thought the second one would last another 3 years or until I replaced the whole machine, but at just over a year it is worse than the first one. And because I was busy and not paying attention to the bottom of my case when the one-year warranty expired, I will have to shell out $130 for #3 which will probably do the same thing. Put your warranty date in your calendar!

My battery was working perfectly before I left for vacation for two weeks. Now that I'm back, it says replace now even though it sat off and unused the entire time. Not really happy that I have to buy a new battery and I've only had my laptop for two years.

I've had my macbook since 2006. I'm on my second battery now (both apple products). My battery isn't charging and the power cord only lights up red. I've had the second battery only 1 1/2 years. It has 471 cycles on it. Seems average until I read the story about the person with over 1000 cycles. Sad to say, I'll have to buy a new battery.

Bought my Black 13" MacBook in August 2008. I love it. Three years almost, now, and it's still going strong. But I'm having the same problem many others are having: the battery is expanding and forcing its way out the bottom of my Mac. It seems to still be holding a charge fine, but for the sake of safety, and to prevent further damage, I'm going to put out for a new battery. Sigh. My wife, a Windows fan, is teasing me, "I thought Macs were perfect..." Alas, no.

Bought this blackmac back in early 2007 Battery has 1124 cycles and has just started telling me to replace soon. I love to run my mac without the cord so I lucked out and charged it fully and discharged it fully MANY times. Now Im finding that it was the perfect way to handle one of these batteries. It still gets over 2.5 hours of life. I can watch a whole movie and never worry about missing the end. The only reason I know i did things right is that I was trying to find out how long I could get out of one of these things only to read other people's mishaps and problems. Man if I can get another one of these batteries I will in a New York second! Problem is that 129.00 is a little steep so I will probably find myself on ebay buying a knockoff and regretting it later. Oh well such is life. Sometimes you get what you pay for and sometimes you don't!

I've had my MacBook for little over 3 years. The battery for my MacBook has slowly expanded and bulged out from the bottom of the computer over the last half a year. I looked today and now it split along a seam the internal parts of the battery are now becoming exposed. Guess it is time to replace it. The battery itself still has great life but the case has itself has failed.

I bought my laptop before my my freshman year of college in 2007 and I just got a warning telling me to replace my battery soon. It's still at 75% Health and I have no intention of replacing this battery until it lasts less than 2 hours (lasted 3 hours yesterday with very light internet use while using MS Word). Who knows what will go first, the laptop or the battery... All in all, I've had great luck!

After almost 3 years and 125 cycles, my battery started to expend itself. The bottom of the battery almost fall down, its the plastic that cover the battery. The battery working fine, but will have to buy a new one, because I afraid that it can cause damage to the MacBook or catch fire.

    Battery not dying but expanding

I am always very careful with my battery. I try to use it a infrequently as possible. I think in the course of 3 years I have used most of the battery life 3 times. Recently the bottom of my macbook started to expand. At present almost my entire battery is exposed. It is pushing up on my mouse pad so I can't use my computer while flat.

I have had my black macbook since Sept. 2008. The battery is still going strong. It used to have a longer life but I still get at least 2 to 3 hours of it. It is good enough for sending emails out at night, but I definitely agree that to have the battery life last longer, it has to be drained almost fully then charged. Makes the battery life last longer. I hope I get more years out of this battery before I need to buy a new one to replace it.

    Three Years and Going Strong....

After 670 cycles over three years, this battery is at 88% of capacity - and as I haven't calibrated it in about 2 months, I expect that that number will change slightly upward as it usually does after calibration. I've no complaints with this product and am going to purchase another when the day comes that it's finally necessary. So... Mr./Ms. Apple, DO NOT change this product in any way, it's great the way it is. If you have to charge more keep it the same, it's OK I'll pay it.
