I have gone through 2 of these batteries now in a year and a half. The battery life also tends to be very short.

I have two batteries for my black Macbook, and they both work fine. I've left mine dead for a few days, charged up just fine and last as long as advertised.

If you let your macbook stay dead it WILL KILL the battery. Even 3 days!

Just an FYI-- my company has had to replace several batteries due to this. Apple replaced most of them for us under AppleCare. But whether or not you have a warranty in effect please heed my warning!

Running your macbook battery down to dead or near dead, and letting it sit, discharged, for as little as 3-4 days WILL permanently kill your battery. This is not how the old PowerBook batteries were, and I don't know if it's something Apple can fix in the future. I'm just telling you, A. Don't let your macbook run all the way down, just in case! B. If you do run it all the way down, PLUG IT IN IMMEDIATELY! Or else you'll be on the hook for another $129. If you're not going to be using it for more than 2 days, make sure it has at least 1/2 charge and turn the power off -- not sleep! For even better results in periods of disuse, remove the battery and store it in a big ziploc bag in the fridge. Allow battery to return overnight to room temperature before use.

    Just under the warranty wire

My black MacBook battery just died out of the blue. Luckily I was still a couple weeks under the 1 year warranty deadline and had the battery replaced at a local Apple retailer.

I think there's a problem Apple needs to address with the battery maker. I have read too many similar "dead MacBook battery" and "it won't charge" user reviews and comments in various forums.

I have had 2 other Apple laptops and never had a battery failure like this. My dual USB 800MHz ibook still has its original battery and it works fine.

Rest assured I have put a "Test MacBook battery" appointment in iCal for next November 7th 2009. 30 days before the new warranty expires.

    Rechargeable Battery - 13 - inch MacBook

The battery died after just 3 months of use. I probably have used the computer, during this time frame of 3 months, no more than 10 hours. After reading the reviews on this battery I am not an isolated case with this experience. I love my Macbook but now I am very distrustful of what to expect from this battery. With ll the wonderful products coming from Apple, immediate attention should be given to this battery quality.

I got my macbook about a year ago in december and the battery wore off by the time it was march and throughout december it had been working fine and januray and feburay the power would just go faster and faster, I took really good care of it and then my charger broke and I couldn't afford to get a new one so i didn't use it for four months and finally i got the charger and every time the charger comes out my power turns off right away. That can be VERY upsetting because I could be doing something important and it doesn't save. Plus on top of the sucky battery, It's also very expensive so I haven't been able to get a new battery. I rate the battery very poorly. But, Apple has amazing stuff, so i think one of their only probelms is the battery, maybe they will consider making it cheaper.

    Mac needs to fix this

I got my mac nice a new with a warranty. I used it very carefully and one day i ran the battery down and didn't charge for a week. I got a new battery under apple care and it did it again. This time not under warranty. Apple needs to make a hardware fix on the battery for their computers where you can force power to the battery or make an adaptor to charge it by cable or some other way. I have to say it's really bad that they leave that. I love apple but i really don't like when a notebook needs to be plugged in to work all the time.

My battery died suddenly.. One day it worked, the next my mac wouldn't run unless it was plugged in, and the OS wouldn't even recognize a battery was connected.

You might as well buy a clone for half that price to replace it.. I doubt the clone battery could be any worse then this one.

Shame on you apple.. my Dell PC battery lasted 3 years, and still gives me 3 hours of run time!! And the PC is abused/used 10 times more then that pretty little mac.

    These batteries are garbage

WARNING: NEVER LET YOUR BATTERY GET TOO LOW. CALIBRATING IT COULD CAUSE IT TO DIE FOREVER. These batteries are really meant to be temporary power supports between charges and are not meant to be run down. I am now on my 3rd battery...these things are bad. But what can you do? The computer is worthless without a battery. However, Apple should be embarrassed. This is a ubiquitous problem which Apple has failed to properly address. I love apple products and will continue to buy, but their batteries are terrible.

    rotten apple

I've been a lifelong Apple fan, and still enjoy their fine computers, BUT their exclusive expensive replacements for battery and power supply for macbooks is just extortion. I've properly maintained my battery, following apple's directions to the letter, but then it drops dead and the expensive applecare doesn't cover batteries!?! The real cost of more affordable computer products from apple is that the accessories are designed to fail and cost a mint to replace. My $1,099 macboook has already cost $1,259.

    Battery dies suddenly

As written in other reviews, my battery worked wonders for about a year... Now the battery dies out suddenly even though the battery is around 50% charged. I agree that Apple should have a recall on these batteries. The difficult thing is that you still need to buy their rechargeable battery, there is no way out.

    Don't Let this battery discharge

    • Written by from Winter Park

My Macbook Battery died about a year after I got the machine. I let the battery completely discharge (including the reserve charge). Be careful with these batteries and make sure you don't completely discharge this battery. Turn off your machine and plug it in if you're not going to be using it for a while. Any battery will lose charge overtime. If you leave the batter with only a little charge, it can lose what it has left. On the plus side, it looks nice. :-)

All rechargeable batteries will start to lose their ability to maintain a charge after a certain number of cycles (~600ish i think). These are no different and need to be replaced after a while. Apple will replace your battery if it begins to malfunction prematurely. I have had many batteries for Apple laptops from the 2001-present and all have lasted about 1.5-2 years. My roommate had an MacBook battery begin to fail after a few months and was replaced for free.

    No problems

I've been buying mac products for years and I have recently traded in my power book for a 2.16ghz mac bool. I've had it for over a year ad have had absolutely NO problems with it. My health is at 100% and it stills holds a charge (all apps closed) for about 6:30 hours with the screen on full brightness. I think the problem people have is that they never let their batteries run down. If you leave your mac plugged into the charger 24/7 then I have a question and a comment. #1, why didn't you buy a desktop?! #2, this hurts your battery and decreases it's lifetime and amount of charge. You need to let it run down to reserve battery every once in a while so it will remember what a full charge is.

I noticed a lot of people that have had a bad run with their batteries. I'll have had my MacBook for a year in two days and my battery health (according to iStat Pro) is at 90%. I followed all the tips that apple tech support gives and have never had any issues. I still get 3-4 hours on a battery using the internet. I'd consider buying a second for long trips and flights, but after reading some of these reviews I'm starting to wonder if I just got lucky with mine.

How much money is Apple making from replacement batteries? Are they compensating for the losses because they finally got around to making a decent power supply (Magsafe) and we don't have to keep replacing those? My battery was fine for about 4 months, but now I can't trust it to endure more than 45 minutes.

If I could I'd give it less than 1 star because it's not fair to the consumer when we are not informed that it won't be covered by the $300-plus warranty.

I love the MAC products and have been faithful since I got my first g4 with not one problem in my 8 years of owning it. got the macbook pro and 1 year, two weeks in - the battery died. No more warranty. I went to the shop to get it fixed - and the guy tells me these Macs aren't what they used to be. They're mass producing them in C-h-i-n-a and the product has gone to p-o-t so big Steve can make more money. I'm disappointed in Apple's reliability. It has gone down the tube. Dood, I might have to get a D-e-l-l!

that the battery on my brand new macbook also died within 5 months of me buying the laptop. Now, I calibrated the thing just like the manual said, so no excuse there. And like everyone else, my battery died with no warning and no excuse. I think that when a company has this many people have the same complaint about a product, they should replace it or do a recall. And even if they don't read the reviews here, they know about it, as I know others have complained. I love my macbook, but it's battery is junk. Please, Apple, we would all appreciate some kind of response to this problem.
