    Battery Dead After Vacation

    • Written by from Zion

After going on a vacation my battery died and was untethered for 1 week. After coming home I plugged the adapter to it and it said "NOT CHARGING" and that it needed to be replaced. I had a macbook for 2 years and never had a problem with the battery before it was stolen. I bought another macbook and had this one for 1 year. I love Apple products. I have a ipod, iphone, macbook. But I find it highly suspicious that this problem occurred to so many people with similar situations.

Great product, identical to the original battery. Color is perfect, it also lasts almost just as long... It doesn't come charged though just to keep in mind to people...

    Poor Battery Quality

I've had a macbook for 18 months now.
The battery that came with my mac was originally dead.
Apple gave me a brand new one at the time.
Yesterday I found out my battery was dead again!!!
Now my macbook is not under warranty and I'll have to pay 129 + taxes for a new battery...
It's a shame that apple makes their great computers with such low quality batteries...
Before becomming a mac user I had never had such problems... (never thought I'd say that...)

the well documented weakness of this battery is that it up and dies on you out of the blue like a horse with cholera on the prairie. everyone knows that all batteries eventually lose their charge but one would expect that it would go down gradually...my experience with this battery was that it just cut out one day with no warning, about a year after i bought the computer. am so t'd off i will buy a replacement battery from another manufacturer (even though i am a loyal apple shareholder). There are good apple products and bad ones and the black macbook was not a good one.

I have gone through 2 of these batteries now in a year and a half. The battery life also tends to be very short.

I've been a lifelong Apple fan, and still enjoy their fine computers, BUT their exclusive expensive replacements for battery and power supply for macbooks is just extortion. I've properly maintained my battery, following apple's directions to the letter, but then it drops dead and the expensive applecare doesn't cover batteries!?! The real cost of more affordable computer products from apple is that the accessories are designed to fail and cost a mint to replace. My $1,099 macboook has already cost $1,259.

    Battery Woes

    • Written by from Bon Accord

My first battery died within 6 months of purchasing my Macbook and Apple kindly replaced it (although I did have to pay to ship the old one to them) The replacement battery lasted about 6 months as well but this time when I complained the response I got was "Your computer is no longer under warranty" but you can buy a new battery. I was pretty choked and have been using my Macbook as a desk top computer for the past 2 years refusing to give Apple any more of my money for their shoddy "Made in China" products.

Purchasing a 3rd battery now. 2nd one is only about a year old and will not hold a charge. called support in the past and they try to calibrate the battery but it doesn't work. They wouldn't replace my battery. They should be replaced for free. They need redesigned for old and new Macbooks.

    The battey case expanded/split open

I've had my MacBook for little over 3 years. The battery for my MacBook has slowly expanded and bulged out from the bottom of the computer over the last half a year. I looked today and now it split along a seam the internal parts of the battery are now becoming exposed. Guess it is time to replace it. The battery itself still has great life but the case has itself has failed.

Battery dead after 62 cycles / 15 months - Apple won't replace it

    • Written by from North York

Bought my black MacBook in late 2006. Original battery was swollen and got replaced for free - under a recall, apparently - in June 2009. Had it shutdown and left for 16 days. Upon my return, the battery was dead. If it's an isolated situation, I would understand, but reading the reviews it's clear that these batteries are poor quality. My CAD 450 HP laptop was down for the same 2+ weeks, and its battery is still running strong. New battery costed me CAD 179.67. Ironically, 3 poor quality MacBook batteries can buy a new PC laptop with better battery life, with change left to spare.

I noticed a lot of people that have had a bad run with their batteries. I'll have had my MacBook for a year in two days and my battery health (according to iStat Pro) is at 90%. I followed all the tips that apple tech support gives and have never had any issues. I still get 3-4 hours on a battery using the internet. I'd consider buying a second for long trips and flights, but after reading some of these reviews I'm starting to wonder if I just got lucky with mine.

    MacBook - poor battery design

    • Written by from LONDON

33 of 37 people found this useful

It is difficult to understand why Apple is unable to design or procure from elsewhere a battery which will last for more than eight to nine months. And it is not only a matter of complete failure of the battery: it's performance deteriorates noticeably over a period of three to four months before it finally fails. It is a serious weakness in what is otherwise a first-class product.

    Normal but Expanding

    • Written by from Los Angeles

37 of 46 people found this useful

I have a MacBook (Black) that's just over 2 years old. I hava no problem with my battery life. 498 cycles so far and still holding a good charge. The battery however is expanding. The genius bar told me I need a new battery, but why throw away an otherwise good battery. It's not good for the environment or the wallet.
The expanding battery presses up against the logic board, the keyboard and trackpad; rendering them unusable. the curser jumps around, highlights text and erases everything you have input.
Instead of taking Apple's advice and replacing the battery, I just use a piece of clear shipping tape to hold the battery in instead of locking it in. It's lame, but it's good for the environment and The battery works perfectly. I still get 2-4 hours on a charge.
This is a defect in manufacturing. BTW Sys Profiler gives the battery a Condition: "Normal". The genius bar says it's dead.

    Dead after 6 day vacation.

Upon returning home from a six day vacation I found my MacBook completely unusable without being tethered to the power charger. After poking around the web looking for a solution to the problem I learned that this is a common issue with Apple's MacBook batteries. If a batteries' charge passes below a critical point it cannot be recharged again, but for it to happen on only six days is unacceptable. On a number of occasions I've left my old HP notebook uncharged for over two weeks with no issues.

    Mac needs to fix this

    • Written by from Lees Summit

I got my mac nice a new with a warranty. I used it very carefully and one day i ran the battery down and didn't charge for a week. I got a new battery under apple care and it did it again. This time not under warranty. Apple needs to make a hardware fix on the battery for their computers where you can force power to the battery or make an adaptor to charge it by cable or some other way. I have to say it's really bad that they leave that. I love apple but i really don't like when a notebook needs to be plugged in to work all the time.

    battery health

46 of 64 people found this useful

I downloaded this neat widget called iStats Pro and it shows you exactly what percentage your current battery health is at, whether it be 100% (brand new battery) or 58% (my year old battery). The best thing to do is to keep it plugged when possible, rather then draining your battery and recharging it day after day.

2 stars for a battery that I will eventually feed the beast 129$ of my hard earned dough.

    Battery not dying but expanding

I am always very careful with my battery. I try to use it a infrequently as possible. I think in the course of 3 years I have used most of the battery life 3 times. Recently the bottom of my macbook started to expand. At present almost my entire battery is exposed. It is pushing up on my mouse pad so I can't use my computer while flat.

    Time to replace my battery

My battery finally died after almost 3 years of constant use. I am not unhappy with the fact that it seams to have died without warning, I will simply replace it and use the wall adapter in the meantime. 129.00 for nearly 36 months of battery life is only about 3.60 per month, NOT TOO SHABBY! Still loving my MAC!!!

    Baaad Battery

This battery lasted about 1 1/2 years, it's decline was rapid. The battery would die if I was on the internet with the computer showing 40% battery life. About one month later, without any battery life decline, it just stopped working unless plugged in. Very disappointing performance for the cost.
