I've had mine for 2 years now got her when they were first out had to have motherboard replaced and now battery only lasts 50% but computer tells 1.50mins but cuts once 50-44% reminds and refuses to go back on till plugged in.
I'm not sure but seems to me that the battery is defective. I've just 183 cycles and doing the whole take out battery for and hold power for 5 secs didn't do much for long.

    Charged and Drain:Yet only 2 -2.5 hours

Honestly, I charged and drained my NEW battery as one of the reviewers suggested. Yet, the battery only lasted for 2 - 2.5 hours in normal use.
As one of the the reviewers said, "yes we need it, no it is not great."
Sorry everyone, but we are yet to see a long lasting laptop battery. :(

For decades I was a pc guy. Not anymore. You get what you pay for. My 2008 macbook is on 784 cycles and is only recently starting to deplete faster. Still get a couple of hours.

Quality product, better than any other computer batteries

When I had a dell, after a year I would have to have my computer on the charger to be able to work. With my macbook, I have had it for three years and my battery life is just starting to be less. When I say less, I mean it lasts at least 3 hours on optimal usage settings still. So all in all, compared to other computer manufacturers I think that this is a great product!

    Works for Me

I bought my MacBook in the spring of 2007 and never had to replace the battery until the summer/fall of 2009. I used my computer all the time because I was a student...I almost never shut my computer down. I traveled every few months but didn't really use my computer on my flights. When my battery finally died, my MacBook was still under my AppleCare plan. I brought it to the store and they replaced my battery for free. Not sure if that's normal practice or not, but I was definitely appreciative. I recently had to replace it again but it was my own fault--I fried it by using the wrong adapter for a year...lucky I didn't fry my whole computer. All-in-all if you're using it like an average person you're probably going to be fine. If you're on it all day every day then your battery isn't going to last as long...

45 months and going pretty strong

I use a late '06 MacBook, keep it plugged in most of the time, seldom run it down to the warning level. 664 cycles, battery is at 76% of original capacity. That last is my only semi-complaint. I think when it's time for a new battery, I'll get a new MacBook instead.

Best Laptop Battery I've Ever Used

I have my original MacBook battery and it has gone through 581 cycles and is still at 99% health. I have noticed maybe only slight drops in battery life over the 3 years I have owned it. I don't know what the heck these people do to their batteries that only get a few hours after only owning it for a few years. My battery can last 5 hours if I turn of airport and turn the brightness down and only do small tasks (like not watching movies or games). It goes to show that with proper maintenance this battery will last a very long time. Just don't be an idiot, use it until it's dying, then plug it in, let it charge up and don't leave it plugged in all the time fully charged. Not that hard...

    Two batteries in two years

I've had my Mac for a little over two years and this is the second time my battery has quit on me. Two batteries in two years is pretty sad.

The only reason I gave it two stars instead of one is because when it is working, I can go five or six hours on a charge. That's better than any laptop I've had in the past.

After 15 months and 362 load-cycles it has higher capacity!

Battery on my MacBook 2,16 has 5259 mAh vs 5020mAh 15 months ago, and 100% health. I'm very satisfied with the battery.
It's really hard to believe that so many people have problems with it. Maybe you don't use it properly? 80% of time I work on battery and only 20% on power adapter, during the night it's plugged to adapter. I don't see any drama coming. Still, I'm getting 5hrs of casual usage with AirPort ON

I own a duo core macbook and my battery died completely just after the first year. I think think Apple should back/fix their hardware and recall all these bad batteries. I don't think they are saving money by assuming that they aren't going to take a hit in image. They spent so much on their amusing PC slamming campaign. When will we see a PC company do an ad that shows the fat guy bragging that at least his laptop is mobile, or "We don't care, we don't have to. We're Apple, where else you gonna go?". Since PC is a competitive, multi corporation platform that offers competitive products for it operating system we will never see that. Apple is looking like Microsoft to me now. Just another monopoly.

My MacBook's battery died after about 5 months of use. Now I have to buy a $129.00 replacement? I think not. Goodbye for now, Apple.

    Horrible half-life

After a little over a year of owing a macbook, the battery is at ~35% capacity. Most of the time I followed the instructions that said to discharge and recharge the batter frequently, but this was not always possible, and my inability to follow these instructions at times was not responsible for the battery's poor performance.

Yeah, these batteries are the pits! Less than a year old and stone dead. Sudden death in a battery simply isn't acceptable at the rate it seems to be happening given all the other posts.

I've had my Macbook for just over a year. I love it but was puzzled when the battery stopped holding a charge. Now I read the other reviews I see this is a reoccuring problem. Apple - you need to fix this to make sure your customers come back to you for thier next computer!

Its been 3.5 years now since I got this Mac. And the battery worked well until recently when it started sweling. It still works well but I can't find a reason for its newly acquired shape.

I think Apple should find out the cause and correct it to at least avoid such problems in future.
