Macbook early 2008 edition (white) 1336 Cycles!

Most people don't know how to diagnose a computer over the years and take care of it. However, I still understand that internal errors occur with no fault to the user. My computer is currently 62 months old and still holds an 88 percent charge. (Thats 4426 mAh compared to the design capacity of 5020 mAh). It's been through 1336 cycles and counting. At this point I feel like it will last forever, but I know that's not true. I came here to say I will be buying a new macbook soon and I hope I can mirror these results. Hopefully I didn't just get lucky and these batteries can really last over half a decade as mine did the first time.

    A fine battery

I bought a refurbished Early 2008 Macbook direct from Apple in March 2009 and have been using the same original battery since then! 410 charge cycles and it's still functioning quite well.

To the folks who are complaining in a _comments section_ about swelled batteries and poor experiences, should call Applecare immediately. Walk any swelled battery into an Apple store and most likely you'll get a replacement! Complaining here in this venue shows you'd rather complain then have the issue rectified by Apple.

    Also...
I bought a 3rd party version of this battery for friend's Macbook and there are a number of downsides (you might save some $ but it's not worth it):
They don't fit properly (you might have to take an exacto to shave off plastic to get it to fit with the twist-lock in place!)
They are light: obviously not taking advantage of the full enclosure
Parts inside rattle: poor built quality, letting parts inside rattle around

So the Apple 13-inch Macbook battery is solidly built and functions very well. Enough with the haters! Buy Apple Genuine!

This battery lasted 6 and a half years before it finally stopped holding a charge. I just dont understand why it's $30 more than the battery for the aluminium MacBook Pro.

After 1,667 battery cycles (and 5 1/2 years), my 13in. MacBook battery is finally dead. It took me through 3 years of law school, an entire keyboard (which had to be replaced because all the keys rubbed off), the Bar Exam, wedding planning, and 3 different jobs. A hard-working battery, if you ask me! Until just a few days ago, I could get about 3 to 4 hours out of one charge. Not too shabby. I only wish the mag-safe chargers lasted as long (I've had about 8 of those)!

I had no idea what was wrong with my macbook and the mouse pad button. I did some research...It was suggested that the problem was caused by a bulging battery. I took off the shell cover I had on the computer and sure enough, bulging battery!

    Amazing battery

As others said, this is a battery that will serve you well if you simply use it as you're supposed to.

From the first day I got the battery, I charged it fully, let it get down to 15 or 20 percent and then charged it again. My computer is 55 months old, and the battery has had 1000 charge cycles and I still get 2.5 hours out of a charge. The battery health is at 82 percent. There's really nothing else to say.

People here are upset that their $130 battery doesn't work. It's not the battery that doesn't work, its the user. ALL Apple batteries inside ALL of their products require great care. Apple's Li-Ion batteries need to be charged to full cycle, and then drained all the way down to ≤ 5%. Only then do you get excellent performance. I've had my MacBook since August 24, 2007 and as of February 18, 2012, not only is the computer still doing pretty well for it's age, but is holding at an excellent 74% battery health after 1264 charge cycles. Apple says this battery is only supposed to last ~300 cycles under normal usage. You need to understand to use this battery ABNORMALLY. You need to buy it and charge it for a full 24 hours the first time you install it, drain it to 0%, charge it to 100% again, and then use it. Only charge the battery when the message appears. Don't listen to the other morons on this review page that complain about Apple's battery not working. Apple's products always work.

I have had my macbook for 4 years and just recently noticed the battery health was 48% so not even dead yet. It didn't have any problems with swelling but I bought a 2nd battery just because I want longer battery life (my old one was getting about 2 hours) now I can have 6 hours of battery life and a backup battery just in case. I don't see anything wrong with the Macbook batteries, and if you are too stingy to pay $129 for a battery how did you afford $1,000 or more for a Macbook? When I had a Toshiba, the batteries were more expensive than a Mac battery and that Toshiba computer only lasted 1 and a half years!! I love my Macbook and am very happy with the new battery :)

    4 Years and -40 Degrees

My first MacBook battery lasted me for over 4 years and 1800+ cycles before it went down to 80% capacity. I have been in Mongolia for 3 out of the 4 past years with the Peace Corps. This battery has been through a lot, including -40 degree winters. I couldn't ask for more than that. I got my replacement this week and look forward to the next 4 years.

Apple guarantees cycles NOT years of use

    • Written by from Albany

49 of 54 people found this useful

IF you bought your laptop battery from Apple, it is guaranteed for a certain number of cycles NOT for a certain length of time. If your battery has problems, take it to the Genius bar and have it checked out. If you have a real Apple battery and it has fewer than the rated number of charging cycles then they will give you a new one for free. (Does NOT matter if your AppleCare has expired.)

I have an old MacBook Pro and an old MacBook (both bought in 2007). Have replaced the Pro battery twice. The MacBook still has the original battery with 2168 cycles. iStat Pro says "Health: 87%", but I am going to replace the battery because it has begun dying too quickly at low charge.

I keep the electrons flowing in laptop batteries by using the laptop without the power supply and then plugging it in when not in use. I never leave the power cord connected when fully charged.

The battery life is not great. I got about 4 hours in the first year of using my MacBook and have gotten about 2.5 hours since then.

The Pro battery is not good, but if you get it to a Genius at first sign of a problem, you might get a free one. The MacBook (non-Pro) battery is great if you treat it right.

Bought my first Macbook 2006 and my battery needs to be replaced now almost 5 years later!
I have used the laptop as a laptop by using the battery and charge it when it needs power and not letting the charger be connected all the time, if you do so you do not need an laptop. The reconditioning process they have for keeping the battery alive for a long time seems to be working just fine.
I've been using a few PC laptops but none of them held this long...

    52 months - 1698 cycles - 95% capacity

I occasionally calibrate the battery. Maybe every 2 to 6 months.

I use it 2 to maybe 6 or more hours a day. FULL brightness. Always wireless. I think I get short of 3 hours off a full charge. But I'm not sure. It was more in the beginning so I'm loosing time. But not bad.

I plug it in whenever. After shutdown - 10% left - 1/2 charge; sometimes when almost fully charged. I unplug, whenever I need it, even if it's not charged all the way. I leave it fully charged and plugged in for hours. I've even left it plugged in (or not) for days while out of town.

    There is definitely a pattern....

Those who are happy with their battery.

And those who "ALWAYS (whatever) and ALWAYS (whatever); yet, I have problems." Is it them? The laptop? or the battery?

I was thinking of buying a second one soon. On the other hand, after reading a bunch of reviews, I might not need one.

P.S. How does ANYONE own a laptop for 4 years and only cycle the battery 400 or so times?

My battery lasted almost 5 years, then started swelling/bulging and losing charge too fast, needing to be replaced. Not bad for a laptop battery! Just keep an eye out for the swelling before it causes damage.

When I had a dell, after a year I would have to have my computer on the charger to be able to work. With my macbook, I have had it for three years and my battery life is just starting to be less. When I say less, I mean it lasts at least 3 hours on optimal usage settings still. So all in all, compared to other computer manufacturers I think that this is a great product!

    Best battery I've seen

I have used many many Li-Ion batteries. In fact I'm a trained chemist who researches in Li-Ion battery area and have to admit that this is by far the best Li-Ion battery I've seen in any commercial product. I'm still using the original that came with my white macbook (early 2009 model). After testing it professionally, it is at 101% capacity even after 200 cycles and more than 2 yrs later. I easily get more than 5 hrs of output.

    1400 cycles+

Maybe I have a low expectation of batteries these days, but I'm giving this battery 5 stars for doing exactly what it promised to and then some. I've had my Macbook for nearly 4 years now. My first battery died after two; I put this laptop through it's paces. It's turned on virtually as long as I am. I keep the screen brightness high and don't use a screensaver or energy saving software.

The capacity has definitely lessened, but I am at over 1400 cycles after two years of use and can still get a solid 2 hours off my battery while running multiple programs and streaming video. All I've had to do is stick to their suggestion of powering all the way up and not beyond that and then allowing the battery to completely drain. Considering Apple would've told me to replace my battery 800 cycles ago, I can't complain; I'd happily buy a replacement battery now but I can see this one easily lasting another few months or a couple hundred more cycles.

the battery has outlasted all my prior laptop batteries. i still have the original battery, 3 years old and 872 cycles later, and it lasts 3 1/2 to 4 hours on a charge. I did upgrade the memory to 4 gigs from 2 gigs. I also upgraded the HD from 250GB to 500GB 7200 rpm and the operating system to snow leopard. i've owned 5 laptops, and this is my first apple, and the first one which i didn't need to purchase a new battery after a year...i'm sticking with apples in the future

    Four years of excellece!

I've had my macbook for just shy of four years. I have never taken care to calibrate the battery or make sure I'm charging it and let it die properly. I just plug it in when I feel like it, and take it when I need it. The battery is on its 1139th cycle, thats right one thousand, one hundred and thirty nineth cycle. I obviously don't get the same time out of it as when it was new, but do get a good 3 hours. I upgraded my HD to a 7200rpm which took a chunk out of its life but it still lasts. Running Ubuntu, I get a noticeably shorter charge, ~2 hours, but thats still enough to get me through my classes.
Over all, this really is a great battery
