    Macbook revived

    • Written by from Kennesaw

So my original battery lasted quite a while before not taking a charge. Ordered this and happy to be mobile again. I would give this 5 stars if not for the following issues:

Arrived with a crack on the casing, on the lip of the battery.
    Price is steep.

Overall I'm just happy I have my laptop mobile again.

Reliable - if you know how to care for it

    • Written by from Dorchester

Bought my 13" Macbook in 2009 - still have the same battery, but now it only lasts about one hour (on low screen brightness). That seems pretty reasonable - 5 years of use and it now needs replacing at $129. But I WISH the instructions had been more clear from the start about how to use the battery so that its optimal health is maintained. For some reason, my computer no longer warns me when the battery is low - it just shuts off without warning. Let's see what a new second battery does for it.

    Good price at the store

    • Written by from Katy

If you let Apple replace the battery at the store, it is $99 instead of $129. The warranty is only 90 days, but it is worth the $30 savings.

    Works great......big price tag

    • Written by from Miami

I bought my Macbook in March 2008 and after five glorious problem free years with my trusty notebook, I am just now having to replace the battery. I was surprised to read reviews saying the battery failed after just 18 months. I work on the road as a traveling consultant. My early 2008 Macbook gets vigorous daily use and has been bumped, banged, dropped and literally slid across a floor for 27 feet once but it's still completely functional and the battery had never failed until just this month in June 2013.
Nothing electronic lasts forever, but for a notebook battery to last 5 years is great in my opinion. I'm not happy about the $129 replacement cost but hey, it's Apple and we're all aware that they're not known for being inexpensive.

    Great Battery

    • Written by from Canyon

I've seen reviews that dog the Apple Battery for only getting 2-2.5 hrs more than the cheapies. I've got news for you, that is AMAZING. I'll take an extra 2 hrs all day long. That is the difference between making it through a work day and having to stop and recharge. Awesome Batteries!

    Four years

    • Written by from Seattle

I spilled water on my macbook and killed my battery. And it is a shame.

I've had this macbook for a little over four years with no battery troubles. The battery stays charged for about 3.5 hours, more if I turn on some power-saving settings.

Hope my next battery lasts at least this long.

    Time For A New Battery

    • Written by from Edgewater Park

I got my Macbook for Christmas in 2007. The battery burned out about a year ago and now I have to connect it to a power source when I use it. Im finally buying a new one. I believe the reason why my battery burned out is one of two possibilities. One is that I left my computer on sleep for several days or that I left it on the charger for several days. It happened so long ago I can't remember which one it was or it could have been a combination of both.

    Early 2006 Macbook

    • Written by from Cuyahoga Falls

I haven't plugged in my macbook for about 2 months (recently got an ipad 2 and sort of abandoned it). When I finally did tonight, I was told that my battery wasn't charging and that I needed a new one. At first, I was ticked off! 129.00 for a new battery!? But that I started reading the reviews and realized that I was one of the lucky ones! I got my macbook in 2006, and I got 1120 cycles out of it. I hope my new battery works that well because the rest of my computer is fine. That'll do, little battery, that'll do....

    actually pretty good

    • Written by from Myrtle Beach

i’ve had my macbook for almost 4 years now. for those of you who know what it means and care, it has 413 cycles on it and it’s going pretty strong. i used to get a full 4 or so hours out of the batter when i first got it. 4 years later? i’m down to an hour and a halfish to two hours depending on what i do. if i stream, then i’m down to about 10 minutes. i didn’t usually follow the thing where you charge it fully and then let it die. when i did, it did help. most likely going to get a replacement battery soon.
just remember it’s how you treat it that helps it’s longevity. if you go and beat your car up, yeah you’re going to need a new one sooner or later. these things aren’t supposed to last forever.

A pretty good battery with an evil side

    • Written by from Orinda

This battery is pretty good and it has lasted me two years. I however didn't use my computer for a week, and just left it shut off with the battery partially drained. When I next used my computer the battery was DEAD. it had 601 charges on it, and before I was having a 95% battery life. I learned that you need to update the software in the battery chip via battery update 4.1, but the software won't work on Snow Leopard. I did find out how to work around the issue but had I known about this earlier I wouldn't have had to buy a new battery.

    Not a complaint

    • Written by from wichita

I've had my MacBook for 4 1/2 years and still use the original battery. And I use it A LOT! I don't take care to fully charge and then fully run it down or any of that stuff. I've left it on accidentally and it's drained to shut off point a hundred times. It always comes back on. I take it school and it last through all my classes, granted it is depleted by the end of my last class. Macs are great. Having a battery that goes kaput on you after 13 months is not typical. But it can happen. As with any electronic device.

    Satisfied User

    • Written by from Mumbai

Have been using a Macbook for 3 years now and am still on my original battery. Cycle count is at 622 and must say am envious of the ones with a count in excess of 900-1000.

A few things which have worked for me - screen brightness always at the lowest level, disconnecting the charger once the battery is fully charged. The second one is important. I have a friend who keeps the charger always plugged in and his battery doesn't hold charge at all.

One thing I've noticed is that when my battery completely dies out and I keep the computer in sleep mode for some time say an hour, it then takes much longer to charge. My guess is this reduces battery life and is something that must be avoided.

Simple way of looking at it - be extra careful at the extremes of battery charge.

    Battery life - years

    • Written by from SCOTTSDALE

I just ordered a new battery for my MacBook after about 4 years of use. I've kept it plugged in all the time (didn't know I shouldn't) except when traveling and have never had a problem. It has finally died. I'm sure I'm one of the lucky ones but my kept going, and going, and going!

    3 Years 989 Cycles

    • Written by from san antonio

I have put this battery through heck and thought that it was just alright, for being a good battery for 3 years 989 Cycles. I was finally told it was at 80% capacity and needed to be replaced. I never did half the stuff mentioned about only charging until its full, not letting it go into sleep mode, not charging halfway... I have done all these things countless times and my battery has done well. So, I thought this was an average product until reading all the bad fortune stories here. I guess I don't feel bad for needing a new battery now.

    battery life

    • Written by from sarasota

One of the complaints I see about these batteries is that they only give you 2.5 hours of use. Make sure that under System Preferences > Energy Saver you set the battery state for better battery life. Another thing to keep in mind is screen brightness, wifi, and bluetooth. Turn off Bluetooth and Airport if you aren't using them as they drain power searching for networks and devices.

560 cycles and still at 92% health

    • Written by from Halethorpe

If you leave the cable in once the green light comes on, you're going to kill the battery. Every month I let the battery completely drain until it shuts off my mac and then fully re-charge it. My mac is 4yrs old, and with 560 cycles I'd say it's done pretty darn well :)

45 months and going pretty strong

    • Written by from Tampa

I use a late '06 MacBook, keep it plugged in most of the time, seldom run it down to the warning level. 664 cycles, battery is at 76% of original capacity. That last is my only semi-complaint. I think when it's time for a new battery, I'll get a new MacBook instead.

    2nd time was the charm

    • Written by

My 2nd battery is on 762 cycles and I bought it 2 years ago. It still says the condition is good. The difference this time is that I charge the battery to 100%, and then immediately disconnect from the power source. While I use it through the day, once it gets down to the warning that it will power down at 5%, then I plug it back in. Seems to work for me! The first time I would leave it plugged in all the time, because a tech guy I worked with said that is was fine to do that. He was obviously wrong. Giving it 4 stars because the battery is still too expensive for my liking.

    Very good, if used properly.

    • Written by from Old Town

I've had my macbook since June of 2007, the battery has had 892 cycles, and it's still going strong! I've used it properly, with the whole drain it as much as you can then charge it fully. When I do have a full charge, i still get at least 3 hours of battery when browsing the internet and that stuff. I highly recommend this battery to anyone who can use it properly.
