    Excellent

My battery lasted almost 5 years, then started swelling/bulging and losing charge too fast, needing to be replaced. Not bad for a laptop battery! Just keep an eye out for the swelling before it causes damage.

Quality product, better than any other computer batteries

    • Written by from Grand Rapids

When I had a dell, after a year I would have to have my computer on the charger to be able to work. With my macbook, I have had it for three years and my battery life is just starting to be less. When I say less, I mean it lasts at least 3 hours on optimal usage settings still. So all in all, compared to other computer manufacturers I think that this is a great product!

    Best battery I've seen

    • Written by from Oshkosh

I have used many many Li-Ion batteries. In fact I'm a trained chemist who researches in Li-Ion battery area and have to admit that this is by far the best Li-Ion battery I've seen in any commercial product. I'm still using the original that came with my white macbook (early 2009 model). After testing it professionally, it is at 101% capacity even after 200 cycles and more than 2 yrs later. I easily get more than 5 hrs of output.

    1400 cycles+

    • Written by from Madison

Maybe I have a low expectation of batteries these days, but I'm giving this battery 5 stars for doing exactly what it promised to and then some. I've had my Macbook for nearly 4 years now. My first battery died after two; I put this laptop through it's paces. It's turned on virtually as long as I am. I keep the screen brightness high and don't use a screensaver or energy saving software.

The capacity has definitely lessened, but I am at over 1400 cycles after two years of use and can still get a solid 2 hours off my battery while running multiple programs and streaming video. All I've had to do is stick to their suggestion of powering all the way up and not beyond that and then allowing the battery to completely drain. Considering Apple would've told me to replace my battery 800 cycles ago, I can't complain; I'd happily buy a replacement battery now but I can see this one easily lasting another few months or a couple hundred more cycles.

    battery lasts 3 1/2 to 4 hours

    • Written by from newport beach

the battery has outlasted all my prior laptop batteries. i still have the original battery, 3 years old and 872 cycles later, and it lasts 3 1/2 to 4 hours on a charge. I did upgrade the memory to 4 gigs from 2 gigs. I also upgraded the HD from 250GB to 500GB 7200 rpm and the operating system to snow leopard. i've owned 5 laptops, and this is my first apple, and the first one which i didn't need to purchase a new battery after a year...i'm sticking with apples in the future

    Four years of excellece!

    • Written by from mattawan

I've had my macbook for just shy of four years. I have never taken care to calibrate the battery or make sure I'm charging it and let it die properly. I just plug it in when I feel like it, and take it when I need it. The battery is on its 1139th cycle, thats right one thousand, one hundred and thirty nineth cycle. I obviously don't get the same time out of it as when it was new, but do get a good 3 hours. I upgraded my HD to a 7200rpm which took a chunk out of its life but it still lasts. Running Ubuntu, I get a noticeably shorter charge, ~2 hours, but thats still enough to get me through my classes.
Over all, this really is a great battery

    methuselah battery

    • Written by from oklahoma City

I have a Macbook 4,1; whatever that means. It's white and it was manufactured just a couple of months before the first aluminum books came out. The battery (original) is on cycle 1030. According to the thing in "About This Mac," its condition is "normal." It provides about 2 or 3 hours' use on a charge, depending on what I do with it. I do mostly use up a charge before I re-charge. But I often (like several times a week) plug it in and leave it charging overnight. I sometimes turn the machine off and back on quite often, other times I'll go for weeks, just letting it sleep when I'm not using it. The only consistent thing is that I cart the Macbook around like a purse and I use it a lot; usually for several hours each day. It's not out of the ordinary for me to run the battery down and recharge it several times in one day.

I came to this site because I was thinking that the battery was old and I should consider replacing it. After reading the reviews here, I'm just going to forget that and count my lucky stars.

over 3 years and still going

    • Written by from ELK GROVE

These batteries are absolutely phenomenal. When its fully charged, the battery will last me about 3 to 4 hours of solid use with a lower lit back screen. It still amazes me how long it last when i hear friends that have PC's for only a couple years say their batter only lasts an hour at the most and they have to take their cord with them everywhere they go. People need to stop nocking the battery because it works beautifully and will probably last me another year or so. I don't let the battery drain completely before charging it, I just charge it when i get home. great battery!!!

    Works for Me

    • Written by

I bought my MacBook in the spring of 2007 and never had to replace the battery until the summer/fall of 2009. I used my computer all the time because I was a student...I almost never shut my computer down. I traveled every few months but didn't really use my computer on my flights. When my battery finally died, my MacBook was still under my AppleCare plan. I brought it to the store and they replaced my battery for free. Not sure if that's normal practice or not, but I was definitely appreciative. I recently had to replace it again but it was my own fault--I fried it by using the wrong adapter for a year...lucky I didn't fry my whole computer. All-in-all if you're using it like an average person you're probably going to be fine. If you're on it all day every day then your battery isn't going to last as long...

    3+ years . . .

    • Written by from Downers Grove

After 3 years, I still get right around 3 hours on a full charge, sometimes more sometimes less depending on what I'm doing. My current cycle count is 1182. After going through some of these reviews, it looks like that is pretty solid performance for a laptop battery. As far as how I've maintained my battery/charging habits, I have no idea. Never really stuck to any sort of regiment, though I ALMOST NEVER turn my computer off or reboot it, noticed someone else mentioned something similar so maybe thats the trick?

    3 years and going!

    • Written by from Petoskey

I have a macbook from January 2008 and its still runs strong! I read a few years back in PC World that with Lithium batteries they should be charged more often instead of letting them go completely dead. NiCad batteries should be drained completely before recharge. What does every company normally use these days. Right lithium because they last a lot longer even if you don't wear them out all the way. Now don't complain about your batteries unless you know how to use them properly. If you have new battery ideas bring them to the table.

    An A+++ product

    • Written by from Copperas Cove

I hear what some say about its life expectancy, but having gone through 3 new pc's in one year(2 IBM/Lenovo Thinkpad, and a Sony Vaio) I bought this one 3 years ago and have never had a problem with this product after plenty of traveling and power sources in different countries.

After 3 years, this battery is still going strong. The only reason I finally had to replace it was because it began to swell a little. It was more cosmetic than a lack of function. It still works as though it was nuclear or something. Are these what they use in the terminator?

    Can't complain...

    • Written by from Ironwood

The original battery on my MacBook 13" has lasted 897 cycles. Only recently have I noticed a steep decline in usage time. Sure, it's time to replace it now, but after 897 cycles, I can't complain - that's a long time. A lot depends on how your machine is set up and how you use it. That said, i use my MacBook a LOT, as in, I should probably go outside and get some daylight now and then. Overall I'm satisfied with the battery's life and hope the new one I get will last just as long. As other reviewers have noted, let the battery drain fully before plugging it in.

On a side note, it seems Apple Customer Care has really improved of late. My Apple Care expired years ago and this last year they really took good care of me when I had hard drive issues. Thanks Apple! Keep up the good work.

    Awesome

Lots and lots of people say the battery does not worth for the amount of time it should. I say they should treat better their laptops. This battery has lasted me for 3 years and it still holds up 2.5 hours. I realized that if you happen to install windows, the battery drains way faster, and it's life as well. A friend of mine bought his computer a couple of months before and his battery is almost dead, but mine is just holding 60% of its original charge.
I believe this battery is so much better than normal laptop batteries, And even better if you use it only with Mac OS X. The OS already contains embedded how to proper use the power consumption as windows does not. Usually other brands try to add a bundle software to Windows in order to control the power consumption, which even makes your computer to run slower! I have recommended Macbooks to practically everybody due to my 100% satisfaction over the past 3 years compared to other laptops that i used to have.

    long life

    • Written by

I have had my MacBook for 3 years now and the battery is still going strong and holding a long life. The only problem I am having is the covering for the battery is starting to separate from the battery. It looks like the battery is being pulled down and out but after removing the battery and inspecting it I have come to the conclusion that it's just peeling apart. I build and repair PC's (dell, gateway, compaq, etc) and I will stand by APPLE 100% on their computers. I have been using an Apple computer since the Apple II (including the Apple IIe, IIc, and IIGS) and never had a problem. I am looking to pick up another battery for my MacBook just to have as a backup.

    4 Years!!

    • Written by from Morrice

Honestly, I bought my Macbook the summer of '06 and never have used the battery properly. I always have it on the absolute brightest and never let it drain completely and not until now... 4 YEARS later does it die. I think that that is pretty darn good. Now that I know how to "properly" use a battery, let's see if I can make it 10!! It totally is worth the money. I mean common, you know what you are getting into when buying a Mac. It's expensive, but it's SO much better and SO worth it!
