It will die, at least mine did.

    • Written by from San Ysidro

I bought this on April 18th, and it died today, it didn't even last 3 months. We've been using Apple's products for some years now, and it is the first time we have a defective one, I'm hoping that it was an isolated case, anyhow, I'll be heading to the Apple Store tomorrow.

    Quickly loses capacity

    • Written by from Vantaa

I have a 32 month old battery with 272 cycles, and only have 25% of the battery capacity left, translating to about 30 minutes of battery life. The battery has never been exposed to extreme temperatures or handled otherwise carelessly, so these numbers are highly disappointing for a battery with this kind of price tag on it.

    This battery is way overpriced

    • Written by from Aloha

The cost of this battery is excessive. I can buy a Kindle for the cost of this battery. If it was actually worth the money being asked for this, I wouldn't be looking for a replacement after 101 cycles.

    Short Life

    • Written by from Berkeley

If you are buying this as an extra battery (for those 14hr flights) you should know this: if you store this battery unused for extended periods of time, it will die. As in, permanently dead; will not charge at all. Useless. I bought this and used it for one trip. When I needed it again a year later... dead and useless.

    Frustrating...

    • Written by from Cheyenne

I have had 3 batteries in three years. They love to spontaneously fail and become worthless. I love my MacBook, but loathe the battery. Apple is pretty unresponsive when you try to contact them about it too. They love to blame you and tell you that it is because you can't have it plugged in all the time.

    Battery doesn't last long

    • Written by

This is going to be my third battery in less than 3 years! I love my macbook and have had no problems with it other than the fact that every 1 year and 3 months I have had to purchase a new battery. I do not over charge the battery or mishandle my computer, it is taken good care of and for some reason these batteries just keep going out. The first battery just stopped on me and wouldn't turn on and had to purchase a new one. The second battery just all of a sudden swelled up and started to put pressure on my keyboard and made the mouse key start sticking. So far, I am not very happy with this product escpecially when you pay so much for a computer and expect all of the parts to last longer than a year!!!

Battery Life is not what it should be

    • Written by from Rodney

I recall reading that the battery should be good for a large, finite number of cycles - in the order of 1,000. Mine gave up at 241, so I consider that to be substandard.

    white macbook is a dud

    • Written by from Santa clara

It's funny how all the bad reviews are in the battery section.

In reality the problem is with the macbook itself excessively killying batteries.
I went through 2 batteries in less than 6 months.

One official Apple the other was off brand. both completely dead.

    so it's not the battery.

    Waste of money!

    • Written by

I've had my MacBook for 5 years and have had 4 different batteries. I've let them all drain completely and only charge them long enough to reach 100%. I'm so frustrated and irritated that I will never buy another laptop with this battery. Irate is an understatement.

    Beyond disappointed

    • Written by from Brighton

My first Mac was a G4 Powerbook, whose battery lasted four years. That was the computer that sold me on Apple quality.

I bought a Macbook just over three years ago, and today, the second battery I've had for it just died. No gradual decline in life signaling I'd better take care of this problem soon. I powered up this morning, it showed a full charge, but said I had only 9 minutes of battery life left.

And no, I do not leave it plugged in all the time. After my first battery died, I made sure to educate myself on how to best maintain battery life. Unfortunately, none of those tips seem to matter with this battery. This will make it 3 batteries in 3 years of ownership. That's not right.

    Battery has only 98 cycles

    • Written by from Winnipeg

I love my Macbook, but I called Support and they told me the battery needs replacing and I only have 98 cycles on it.
It has swollen up recently and is pushing up on the touch pad causing it to not work.
I thought that it would have much more life than this.

Not happy with battery, but love the MacBook.

0 star for the battery issue

    • Written by from Singapore

I got my notebook two years ago. Warranty expired. I have encountered the battery expanding problem recently.

The customer support told me i need to pay for new battery.

I have fujitsu notebook with me and it's older than my macbook. The usage is about the same. The battery doesn't expanding at all. Expanding might lead to possible explosion. And now i have to pay for it.

    Terrible

    • Written by from Arlington

Before I start this review, let me say that I love my MacBook, it's been great and runs pretty good.

I've had it for about two years, right before I started college. Last week my light on my charger wasn't fully orange and was flickering. I find it isn't charging. I setup an appointment with Apple and go to talk to them today. After waiting 30 minutes after 4:20 for an appointment that was for 4:20 I get to the guy. He does a few things, presses some buttons and now it is suddenly charging again. However he says I need a new battery.

Not sure how he got it to charge again but apparently the lithium batteries only last about two years. It's 130 bucks to replace it via apple. I didn't think these batteries went out like that, I thought I was going to be good for at least 4-5 years.

In short, be careful, because these batteries have a terrible life. And it says I've used 190 cycles...which from what i'm reading is pretty minimal, that's just messed up.

    Needed replacing after 232 cycles

    • Written by from Victoria

I've had my macbook for just about 2 years now and the battery only had 232 cycles on it before it died. When I went to talk to the geniuses, the first thing they said was that I had a faulty battery and it needed to be replaced. Because I didn't get apple care, I had to buy a new one. They told me that batteries typically have way more charges before they die, and I just had bad luck.

the 4th one i'm going to, sadly, have to replace

    • Written by from New Haven

this battery dies after about 400 uses. for a laptop it is just unacceptable. when the first generation of macbook 13 white came out in 2005-2006, the first batch of these laptops all had manufacture defects. my 1st battery died after about half a year. then the second after a year, third after the third year, and now i'm going to get the fourth one.

maybe it has to do with the fact that i travel among different countries a lot and the input power is fluctuating between 110V and 220V? maybe it's just not a good laptop battery overall.

    Completely dead after 400 cycles

    • Written by from Edmonton

The original battery that came with my Macbook died after about a year and a half-- it was replaced free of charge due to a defect (an 'x' on the battery indicator). Now my replacement battery is dead (again after a year and a half) with less cycles than the original.
I've had batteries slowly die and hold less charge as time goes on, but to have it completely die out of the blue is pretty awful.

don't leave the computer in the case for two weeks

    • Written by from Carmel

I have had the 13" black macbook for a couple of years and the battery has lasted fine on it, then I got married and went on my honeymoon for two weeks in maui leaving my laptop at home, and not using it, when I got home from the honeymoon the battery had fallen into a deep state of discharge, after much research on this issue, I am now very hesitant in purchasing a $130 replacement not knowing how long that replacement will last for it's very tenuous, dubious in fact.

Keep it plugged in it will die

    • Written by from new york

I'm about to be on my third battery now in three years. It's incomprehensible that apple could have overlooked such a simple circuitry solution as bypassing the battery from ac power once it has fully charged or furnishing an option in the power profile to "cycle" the battery if the user should choose to leave it plugged in all the time. In any event all Mac buyers should be alerted to the fact that if you leave your computer plugged in at all times the battery will be gone in one year or less, especially those purchasing replacement batteries. Very bad business Apple Computer. I thought you were better than that.

    Battery life is a joke

    • Written by from Tipperary Town

My battery died after i had my laptop about 19 months. I use it quite regularly as a student so i was quite disappointed that it died so quickly. I followed the instructions about full powerups and drains to the tee.

While i can understand why a battery used quite a lot will die earlier I cant understand the price. These laptops are quite expensive as it is and as I already mentioned I am a student so it really is an expenditure I cant afford.

Hopefully when I save the money to buy a new battery- €140, the new one will last me the next two years while I finish my course.

Very unhappy. The support guy at Apple was very helpful but this very short battery life is a serious flaw that needs looking into as judging by these reviews it's a very common problem
