How has apple not fixed this problem yet?

So the battery that came with my macbook died a few days before my warranty was up go figure. Rather an odd trend we see. The guys at the MOA Apple store replaced it for free and were nice. I had to make the stupid appointment online and deal with that process though.
That was in January, well it's June and my replacement battery now died. Seriously these things are garbage. I heard a pop pop the other day so glad I didn't have this thing on my lap if anything. Since I'm at school I doubt I'll find a place to replace it for free and the closest service center is 500 miles away at the MOA. Thanks Apple

    It's . . . a battery!

I have owned my Core 2 Duo Macbook since December 2006, and am still running the original battery. The computer, when new, had what I considered excellent battery life, and it is still what I consider good (2+ hours). I consider that impressive for a 1 1/2-year old battery, and I find it surprising that the average review score is so low.

It is my observation that the reason there are so many negative MagSafe and battery reviews is that most happy users would never bother to submit one. I consider MagSafe an excellent design, and the battery a perfectly good one, and would give them both 4 or 5 stars.

Being a strong Apple fan, my Mom had purchased me a MacBook in the summer of 2006, right when the new designed MacBook came out. I have noticed alot of problems with the MacBook right when I recieved it, how ever it is much better than the fit, finish and stability of Dell, HP or any other computer company. After about a year and a half the battery would only last about 30-45 minutes, if I were to unplug my MacBook right now it would just turn off as if the battery wasnt in it. Im looking to purchase a new battery, however, it just upsets me that you cant get a good product now in days. But Apple will always be #1, I am very satsified with Apple compared to any other computer company.

    I am rather disappointed...

I must confess, this new Macbook of mine is only my first ever Macbook product. I saved for it, in the face of opposition of my wife, who didn't think we needed a new laptop, bought it in December of 2007, and I have been very happy with it...except for this suddenly non-functioning battery of mine!!! All of a sudden, it goes from keeping a charge for at least 2½ hours, to only barely over one hour, and then it loses its charge in less that 45 minutes!!! The trouble with me now is that I do not have any of the papers that would allow me to claim my warranty. I believe I had registered this product, so hopefully I can claim for the warranty that way, because it is impossible to understand why such a successful and artistically inclined company, whose very ethos is built on producing and offering quality, would offer a battery of this low quality. It should not begin to fail in such a short space of time.

I will have to find out from the Discussion Boards if anyone else has experienced what I have experienced with this battery. I am loathe to purchase another one, and in fact will have to do so clandestinely, so as not to let my friends who have seen me with this machine know what problems I have had with it.

    ...disgruntled Apple Fanboy.

    Better than I expected

I have to say that I was surprised to find so many negative reviews here. I didn't think that there would be so many people disappointed with this battery since mine works better than expected.

18 months of use and according to Coconut Battery I have more capacity than when I originally bought it. And I'm not very careful about charging and draining it fully, I've done that two times since I bought it.
But I guess the quality varies just like with any other product, but I'm more than happy with mine.

However, I went here because I was thinking about getting a backup battery for long trips but seeing the price of it I will have to think twice. It is indeed quite expensive, so that's why I give it four stars instead of five.

Buyer beware! This battery is very frustrating. I finally talk my wife into buying a Mac and now after the warranty expires the battery dies. Well I shouldn't say dies because the tech said that the battery shows good life left but it will shut my computer down if my MacBook is not plugged in. I wish apple would step up to the plate and fix this problem and give us poor suckers who bought this inferior product a credit or rebate.

I have had my macbook for a couple years now and the battery has never let me down. I always have several hours of battery life between charges--after the years of use, it is still going strong.

I recieved my macbook as a christmas gift this year 2008 and it is now May 22, 2008 3 days short of 5 months and my battery is already shot, dead, lifeless!! I now have to leave it on my desk plugged in untill I recieve my new replacement. If the new one dies shortly after my year warranty, I will not spend 129 dollars for a new one! I will put my macbook on craigslist for sale and buy a different lap top!

    13 Month Problem

at 13 months the battery died completely. this is not a case of the battery holding less of a charge. one day i picked it up and it said there is no battery installed. this is extremely frustrating.

judging by the other reviews, this is a very common problem. for apple to continue to produce and sell such faulty products, i must start to question the companies integrity.

Mine was fine until about one month after the year's warranty when it suddenly went dead without warning. In my opinion, this is defective! I never had this problem with my previous lap top. Before that its performance was fine but long performance was not my main requirement, portability was. My son bought a new black MacBook and his battery died in less than 6 months. What is Apple doing to fix this problem? It is fine to replace the battery free of charge the first year but what about someone like me whose battery fails at 13 months or someone whose battery fails for the second time at 14 months. Are you listening, Apple? You are usually very good at responding to user complaints.

    Battery Life

I had my macbook for 2 years and for the past month the battery won't hold a charge. At the same time my charger lost it's ability to charge the computer so I replaced that, hoping that this would also fix my battery problems. When it didn't I called about getting a replacement battery, but I had just missed the "cycle count" maximum to get a battery replaced. I should've called sooner. So now that I JUST missed the count I have to pay a whole $129 for a new battery while I'm still under warranty. Doesn't make sense to me.

    Also had problems early

My battery stopped working well after a short while. Actually my Macbook had all kinds of problems and I just recently had them all repaired under warranty but they didn't replace the battery which lasts for 30 minutes or less. I should have brought it in sooner but didn't get around to it. What bugs me is that they don't last long and the cost of a new battery is excessively expensive.

It looks like everyone is having the same problem with these batteries. They don't last long and that is an inconvenience. Apple should recall these batteries and fix the problem.

third battery in two years.. is that normal?

So i just got my THIRD battery for my macbook in just under two years. The first one Apple replaced for free because it only lasted four months. That last one has been hanging on for the last few months barely holding a charge so i finally had to break down and buy another one.

$130!!! For how long these things last they should be half that price.
I love my macbook but hate this battery issue...So depressing.

I purchased last year a Macbook 13" for my wife and the original battery didn't last one year... reading some of the reviews I can see that I was kind of lucky... most of them don't even last 6 months. The Macbook is GREAT but the battery is VERY BAD... well let's face it... it is HORRIBLE!!!

I got my Macbook 13'' in november 2006, about 5 months later the battery stopped working completely. It is now recognized on the toolbar as a giant x and no matter what i try it still won't charge. I've checked the mac help/troubleshooting but nothing works. Now I'm stuck with a all the time plugged-in laptop, (sort of defeats the purpose of a laptop) and always end up moving too fast and the cable comes out and the computer shuts down. I also cannot believe the price of a new battery! I love mac but if I'm going to be spending 129$ every 4-5 months to replace the battery might as well get a Dell !

user of 9 months and counting. I still get over 4 hours under optimal conditions (i.e. no optical drive, lowest light setting, no usb hardrive). If I'm using it with the DVD drive and high brightness it is about 2 hours. That's great. My only problem with it is that I want to buy another one but it is so expensive: close to 200 dollars with taxes. WOW that's way too much it should be half that and I would give it five stars.

I have had no problems with my current battery... It is now over a year old and i still get about 3 hours on it...

I will probably buy myself a replacement relatively soon so I can get a longer life. One thing I don't understand about previous reviews complaining about their battery dying is that this product has a one-year warranty, so Apple will replace the battery if it fails during the first year. Take it in to a store or call AppleCare and they will replace it straight away...

    Enjoy the battery.

I got my Macbook 13 inch white in NOVEMBER or 2007 thats 6 MONTHS ago. I love mac but the batter last 2 months and now the computer isn't even registering that theres a battery there. I'm not paying 129$ to get a new battery after shelling out 1500 for the computer 6 months ago. Apple needs to fix the problem free of charge. This is worse than my Dell. At least that lasted 4 years even though it did burn my legs if it sat too long.

18 months old, 389 cycles, 75% health, good for 2+ hours. It occassionally goes while still showing >20%, but deep discharging takes care of that for a while. Seems the older it gets the more important deep discharging is to keep the indicator accurate. Not happy with the cost of a replacement, but that's been true with any laptop I've owned.
