Disappointing that Apple won't fix it

disappointing - - I would expect better from Mac. I have had my MacBook for two years and now get less than one hour battery time. This is a serious problem that will probably cost Mac many millions of dollars in lost revenue. Maybe they decided the fix would have cost more. I don't want to be cynical about Apple yet, but this is a serious problem that they seem to be ignoring.

my rechargeable battery does not work

I have buy a 13-inch macbook (white) in last May. It did not work the day before yesterday when I found that I can not turn on the computer without using AC adapter, and the machine could not find rechargeable battery when using AC adapter, and of course the battery can be charged up.
I have read the news that the consumers can get a new battery when their battery has problems like I described above. Ok, I have one question that whether I can replace one new rechargeable battery for free?

Great Product!! Not very good Product life...

I bought my macbook almost 18 months back. The battery life I used to get that time used to be 3-4 hrs as I'm a heavy user. Then around 6 months back I upgraded my ram from 1GB to 2GB. The battery life initially went down to 2 hrs and now its 1hr. I have no idea how this happened but know for sure its because of not charging fully and then discharging fully. So from now on I'll charge my battery fully until it shows battery charged and then discharge it fully until I get a battery low message. This should definitely improve the battery backup I'm getting. There are technical reasons for this phenomenon....

    Deficient in quality

My MacBook battery refuses to accept a charge although it is only 8 months old. Although I usually power the MacBook with ac, I also let the battery fully discharge once a month (or more frequently). I love the iPods, iPhone, iTV, etc., but I think Apple needs to remember that it started out as a computer company. The past 2 or 3 Macs I have bought definitely are not up to the quality level that I had gotten used to with Apple (I have been a Mac user since '88). This defective battery is a prime example.

    1400 cycles+

Maybe I have a low expectation of batteries these days, but I'm giving this battery 5 stars for doing exactly what it promised to and then some. I've had my Macbook for nearly 4 years now. My first battery died after two; I put this laptop through it's paces. It's turned on virtually as long as I am. I keep the screen brightness high and don't use a screensaver or energy saving software.

The capacity has definitely lessened, but I am at over 1400 cycles after two years of use and can still get a solid 2 hours off my battery while running multiple programs and streaming video. All I've had to do is stick to their suggestion of powering all the way up and not beyond that and then allowing the battery to completely drain. Considering Apple would've told me to replace my battery 800 cycles ago, I can't complain; I'd happily buy a replacement battery now but I can see this one easily lasting another few months or a couple hundred more cycles.

It's funny how all the bad reviews are in the battery section.

In reality the problem is with the macbook itself excessively killying batteries.
I went through 2 batteries in less than 6 months.

One official Apple the other was off brand. both completely dead.

    so it's not the battery.

    4 Years!!

Honestly, I bought my Macbook the summer of '06 and never have used the battery properly. I always have it on the absolute brightest and never let it drain completely and not until now... 4 YEARS later does it die. I think that that is pretty darn good. Now that I know how to "properly" use a battery, let's see if I can make it 10!! It totally is worth the money. I mean common, you know what you are getting into when buying a Mac. It's expensive, but it's SO much better and SO worth it!

New battery after only a year and a half.

I am having to replace my battery in my laptop that isn't even a 18 months old. I don't even use this for work, so I'm only on it 3-4 hours a week. I bought this laptop to replace my Dell. That battery lasted for more than 4 years with even more use since I used it though school.

After 523 cycles and 2.5 years of usage I still have 100% of my battery's life in tact. If you properly charge your battery and cycle it at least once a month you can get years out of your battery. I hate reviews saying the battery lasts only a year and a few days so that you have to buy a new one because it isn't covered under warranty anymore. Use it correctly and you will see that you can get more than two years of life.

I used coconut battery to get these stats.

I have had a macbook for more than 3 years now and my battery just now crashed. I use my computer every day and its plugged in most of the time. I think its very much so worth it to spend the $130. (i dont work for mac, im just a happy customer)

I have an original (Gen. 1) MacBook and from day one I was careful about how I let my battery charge, and by last october I had 500 cycles with 80% health. Then I sent it to Apple to get my screen fixed and they replaced it! Life's pretty good.

    Macbook 13" Battery life

I have found that every l-ion battery I have used for various devices are all subject to the plague of short life and run time if not "exercised" with 90% drain and %100 charging. As other reviewers have suggested, do not ping-pong the charging cycles.
I am getting 3 hour runs on a charge at full brightness and with the screen saver off. At medium brightness, I get 3.5 to 4 hours of run time. I also turn off the audio if I do not need it. My Macbook is about 9 months old. I give it 4 stars only because the price seems to be a bit high. Could Apple offer a "faithful customer" discount?

Obviously there is a problem with these batteries, Apple should be replacing them free of charge. I am one of the lucky ones and got a year out of mine.

    Worst Battery Ever

While I love my MacBook, I can't believe the utterly horrible battery that it uses. After 14 months, my battery suddenly died. It gave no signs of failure, it just suddenly stopped working. Apple seriously needs to fix this problem. I will not buy a future mac laptop unless they fix their battery issues. My last laptop was an HP and the battery lasted 3 years. If they can't make a battery that lasts longer, they need to reduce the price significantly. Paying over a hundred dollars every year to keep my laptop functional is ridiculous.

Less than 1 year of life on each of our 3 batteries. Hope the 4th time is a charm, but doubt it.

Stone Cold Dead. Like GG (below, Aug22), mostly used on the adapter. Battery still holding 4hrs, and I regularly ran it down as instructed. Completely sudden death. Battery just plain broke after 18months. Correlation between predominant AC use and sudden rechargeable death?

    Battery is terrible

My MacBook is about 18 months old now and the battery is absolutely terrible. It wouldn't be so bad if the battery gauge would tell me what I REALLY have left in terms of power. It's great when I'm sitting in class after 15 minutes and the battery life says "1:18" and it dies a minute later with no warning. Apple seriously needs to address this issue.

I just finished buying a new battery for my MacBook Pro, which is just a little over a year old because it was no longer holding a charge, and now one of the batteries on my MacBook which is less than a year old, is completely dead as well!!

Not a great record so far on the battery side.

Along with everyone else, my macbook battery, which is only a little over a year old, is not charging to it's fullest. Apple you need to take care of this problem. I love the laptop but you need to rectify this battery problem if you want to keep your customers. I will not pay $129 + for a new battery when the first one should still be working.

So what are you going to do about it Apple?
