    140 Cycles and not charging

Love my MacBook & have had it for just over a year but suddenly the battery is completely dead & not charging. It has gone through 140 cycles. Have tried all the recommended Apple fixes but to no avail. Guess I'm off to the Apple Store tomorrow for a new battery.

    My battery expanded

I got my MacBook in 2006, and have been using it with the same battery ever since. I'd always leave it charging, and after some time I realized that my battery had actually expanded. So now when I clip it into my MacBook, the base of the laptop is not flat - the battery sticks out like a bloated thumb. Not to mention with the battery in the area next to the touchpad becomes super sensitive - touching it is like clicking the mouse.

So I guess I have to get a new one.

Battery does not work in the real world.

I love the computer, too bad the battery is awful. I have a friend that has the same macbook as I do, and my sister has a different model and both have had battery issues. My problem started, I believe, as a result from commuting from my house to an internet cafe when I was traveling. If the battery was low, I would plug it in to charge, but often times I had to unplug it to change tables or I would decide to leave. From my own experience and what I have heard is that the battery takes on a memory and will not function properly unless you completely drain the battery and then fully charge it. I feel that it is unrealistic to expect the user to fully drain and fully charge the battery every time, after all this a mobile device, the user may only be in a location for a short time period. The best analogy I can think of is filling your car with gas; people don't wait until their car is on E to refill their tank and on some occasions they do not have enough money to completely fill the tank. The same goes for battery charging, if you are constantly moving locations, chances are you don't want to wait until the battery is dead to charge it and you won't have enough time to let it fully charge at one location. If I used my laptop in a home office everyday I would find the battery to be satisfactory for that setting, yet if this were the case I would not have purchased a laptop.

    Bad Battery

The replacement battery Apple sent now lasts about 10 minutes. What's up with this Apple? I won't buy another Apple laptop until they fix the battery problem. In the meantime I'm using an Asus eee recently purchased for traveling. I'm once again able to use a laptop without being connected to a power source.

    Disappointing performance

I feel the need to echo the words of the majority of the other reviewers regarding the battery for the Macbook. After a year of use, I am lucky to be able to use my laptop for 10 minutes before my computer shuts down, because the battery won't hold a charge. It rather defeats the purpose of having a laptop!!! And yes, I also will be forced to purchase a new and very expensive battery. I am disappointed that Apple seems incapable or unwilling to provide a more durable battery. Reading the experiences of everyone else proves this problem is more than a minor inconvenience.

My wife and I have had her computer for about a year now and the battery just went out. I agree with everyone else that gave it a 1 star. and why in the heck does the battery cost so darn much?! This is just ridiculous and I am running out of polite ways to say bad words. Apple needs to do something about this issue we are all having and they need to get us new batteries. I think they should have a one time replacement battery and if your battery dies within a year and a half, they give you one free of charge. Come on APPLE, lets get it together, I switched over to MAC for a reason, don't make me go back!

My battery lasted pretty long before it became utterly useless...1.5 years! Apple always marks up their prices so that they can make it seem like their products are worth more than they really are...

My first battery just died after almost exactly one year ago. After reading the other messages I wonder why I don't research things better before I buy. $130 a year is terrible.

I was very dissapointed by the battery which lasted only 15 months, although I did every thing by the book. For such an expensive computer, one would think that Apple could make a better battery... and what a price for it!!!!

How can many mac owners have the same trouble concerning power related gear? Battery turning dead before 1 year and ramdon shutdows?

After 10 months my battery is dead, shame on Apple, they certainly had to have a recall made for all first Macbook that were sold in 2006 and beggining of 2007.

Like 95% of the folks on this review, I've had my MacBook for about a year and the battery went dead. I purchased the extended warranty but it doesn't cover the battery.:( I have an old Dell (bought it in 2001), and the battery still holds a charge. What's the deal? Not much of laptop if you lose the portability and have to keep it plugged in all the time. I don't care how good the rest of the product is. When it comes to battery life, this is a critical thing. 12 months or so is unacceptable and I'm a PC convert. Does Apple want me to go back?

Sudden death right after warranty expired

    • Written by from Alexandria

It seems like a common theme around here this battery dies around a year, and mine was no exception. I know, blah blah batteries die anyway, shouldn't expect miracles. But having owned three other laptops over the years, IBM, Toshiba and Dell, none of those batteries failed in less than 3 years and I would expect Apple to be able to at least match that kind of quality.

It is unfortunate because I had an otherwise good experience with this, my first Mac, and was thinking about getting a Pro for work and pass this one onto the wife, now I am not so sure I would ever dare to buy another Macbook unless someone can tell me what's up with these batteries.

Suddenly deformed itself to death after 3+ years

My battery was still working well until the past week, when it suddenly deformed itself to the no-longer-functional point and has practically come apart. Of course my warranty expired about 3 months ago, so I guess I have no alternative to getting another one.

I bought this on April 18th, and it died today, it didn't even last 3 months. We've been using Apple's products for some years now, and it is the first time we have a defective one, I'm hoping that it was an isolated case, anyhow, I'll be heading to the Apple Store tomorrow.

I've had my MacBook for 5 years and have had 4 different batteries. I've let them all drain completely and only charge them long enough to reach 100%. I'm so frustrated and irritated that I will never buy another laptop with this battery. Irate is an understatement.

One of the complaints I see about these batteries is that they only give you 2.5 hours of use. Make sure that under System Preferences > Energy Saver you set the battery state for better battery life. Another thing to keep in mind is screen brightness, wifi, and bluetooth. Turn off Bluetooth and Airport if you aren't using them as they drain power searching for networks and devices.

LOve the macbook, hate the battery...

I have had my Macbook for over two years now. The battery on a flight to Florida, just expanded like it had a balloon in it, which from what I read is common. I cannot believe it is going to cost $129.00+ tax to replace it, and this is a known issue. Maybe my Applecare is still good. I did not have any issue with the time the battery lasted, it all depends on your brightness settings and such.
