i have had 315 cycles for 17months now and yet, my battery works perfectly 100% health, i think you just need to charge your battery properly, never charge it while its still usable, and most importantly, never leave it charging while u go asleep.

This battery is pretty good and it has lasted me two years. I however didn't use my computer for a week, and just left it shut off with the battery partially drained. When I next used my computer the battery was DEAD. it had 601 charges on it, and before I was having a 95% battery life. I learned that you need to update the software in the battery chip via battery update 4.1, but the software won't work on Snow Leopard. I did find out how to work around the issue but had I known about this earlier I wouldn't have had to buy a new battery.

You have to do complete discharge and charge cycles or the battery wont hold a charge long and the battery dies.

This is caused because this is a rechargeable lithium polymer battery.

Rechargeable lithium polymer batteries suffer from the memory effect. This is when gas bubbles grow between the walfers and limits the charge. This can be overcome by doing full cycles but that takes to long.

As far as laptop batteries go, this is about par. Rechargeable batteries, by their nature have to be replaced about once a year with regular use. Why? Well, the scientific answer would be that the chemicals inside the battery that are used to hold a charge, are, at first, seperate entities. However, as you charge the battery, drain it, etc. those chemicals that were originally seperate start to mix and bond to one another at the molecular level. The more they bond, the less charge they hold. This is normal. No I don't like it any more than you do, but here's a hint; other than the measures mentioned in previous reviews(brightness, volume, etc.) try unplugging your power chord as soon as you can, unless you are using power. If you are just charging the battery, unplug as soon as you get full charge. Even when your battery is charged, if you are still plugged in, the chemicals in the battery will continue to bond, just as if the battery was still charging.

Try that.

I have had my macbook for a while now, and have mixed feelings about the battery. It doesn't last very long, 4 hrs if the screen is bright, and unless I cycle the battery often (let it run down and then recharge) it loses its maximum charge. Some steps I take to prolong its life on a long trip is to a) turn down the screen as low as I can stand, and b) turn off the bluetooth and airport using system preferences. Using this I have gotten my battery to last five hours and forty-fifty minutes. If you plan on going on long trips, you will want this battery.(If you travel by car consider the car charger)

I spilled water on my macbook and killed my battery. And it is a shame.

I've had this macbook for a little over four years with no battery troubles. The battery stays charged for about 3.5 hours, more if I turn on some power-saving settings.

Hope my next battery lasts at least this long.

One of the complaints I see about these batteries is that they only give you 2.5 hours of use. Make sure that under System Preferences > Energy Saver you set the battery state for better battery life. Another thing to keep in mind is screen brightness, wifi, and bluetooth. Turn off Bluetooth and Airport if you aren't using them as they drain power searching for networks and devices.

I have had my laptop since May of 2008. I'm a college student, and so I rely on my laptop. While I haven't been the best about running the battery out and then charging it up, my battery has lasted me quite some time. Some would argue that over two years simply isn't a satisfactory amount of time for a battery to run well, that it should run longer, but considering my battery probably still holds a 2-3 hour charge when I'm running multiple applications with the screen at its brightest, I'm not complaining. I've been the type to leave my laptop plugged in while using it, which isn't all that wise with a portable computer.

According to the Mac "genius" I talked to about getting my 13" black Macbook fixed (the topcase had chipped, which was fixed for free without Applecare), the batteries in my year of Macbook generally run about 300 re-charge cycles, and once it hits that threshold they start to deteriorate, which is why it's important to fully charge your laptop and use it until it almost runs out. Plugging it in before this happens isn't a crime, it's simply better for the battery. I'm fine with the fact that my laptop doesn't hold as much of a charge after two years, in fact it's quite nice. The PC I had before this (it was my mother's, really) had a horrible battery life.

Though I know I'll likely have to buy a new battery within the next year, I'm quite at ease about it. I know it'll last me another two years, if not more. Considering I could get my topcase fixed for free, I'm not complaining about a $130 battery. It's worth it because my laptop isn't obsolete, it isn't choked with viruses, and it's still functions like I did when I bought it, it just doesn't last as long.

I got my Macbook for Christmas in 2007. The battery burned out about a year ago and now I have to connect it to a power source when I use it. Im finally buying a new one. I believe the reason why my battery burned out is one of two possibilities. One is that I left my computer on sleep for several days or that I left it on the charger for several days. It happened so long ago I can't remember which one it was or it could have been a combination of both.
