Apple 60W MagSafe Power Adapter (for MacBook and 13-inch MacBook Pro)
Not Apple Quality
Written by JK from Robins

I've had to replace 3 so far since purchasing my MacBook 3 years ago. At $80 per power adapter it's an additional expense that should be considered before purchasing a MacBook.

Apple 60W MagSafe Power Adapter (for MacBook and 13-inch MacBook Pro)
Unsatisfactory
Written by SM from Puyallup

I am a loyal Apple customer, but I must say that I am very disappointed with this product. I have had my MacBook for just over a year and half, and I just had to purchase my third power adapter. The first one briefly caught on fire at the base of the power block, and the second one somehow got a tear in the cord so I could no longer use it in fear of it also catching on fire. Not to mention, the main part of the power adapter often heats up to the point that it's too hot to touch. It's sad that such an amazing product has such poor accessories... The power adapter is definitely not worth the $79 price tag.

Horrible!

I love Apple but these things are horrible. Way to fragile, i've babied everything with this computer since day one. And for this thing to break my god. 80$ down the drain, seriously Apple you have got to fix these things. This is just way to much money to waste on junk like this, I expect way way more from you, very disappointed.

Broken after 1 month

So I just got my Macbook Pro for college about a month ago. Everything has been going fine until this morning i discover when I took my charger out of my computer that the magnetic brick was stuck in my computer while i was holding both adapter and the cord connector in my hand. I sure hope this is under warranty because I can't spend $80 on a new one!

Poor design not satisfied
Written by JB from Ossian
Jul 13, 2009
I love my mac however, the power cord is a piece of junk. I have had 2 replace it twice in the last year and a half. So that would be an extra $160.00 plus tax. Apple needs to come up with a better design for the plug that goes into the computer. It bends and becomes weak and then frays. I used to have a Dell and that cord design was much better. Come on Apple figure out a new design or I may have to rethink what my next laptop will be. The cost of replacing it just isn't economical. Find a new design or drop the price.

Apple 60W MagSafe Power Adapter (for MacBook and 13-inch MacBook Pro)
easily broken!
Written by KS
Jul 12, 2009
My macbook is only 1 1/2 years old and I am already having to replace the charger. The magnet is a good idea in theory, but in use, its horrible. A lot of people have their charger break at the point where the cord meets the magnet. In my case, one of the spring loaded pins became worn out, and would not pop back up to make contact with the port on the computer. If Apple would just go basic and have a charger that plugs in like every other non-Apple computer does, there would be no problem. I would say don't buy this product, but since there is no way around having a charger, I would suggest buying a replacement from a different company. At least Apple would not get more of your money that way.

I have had my MacBook for 3 years. And I'm still using the same power cord. It is always plugged in and gets moved from room to room if needed. MacBook uses 60W transformer. I do NOT recommend using a larger one for it. And take care of the cord, it is a piece of electronics. From a Electrical Engineer

Apple 60W MagSafe Power Adapter (for MacBook and 13-inch MacBook Pro)
Burning,Pulling, low battery life.
Written by RM from Portage
Jul 6, 2009
I received my 13- Inch Macbook and 60W MagSafe Power Adapter this past December (about 6 months ago) and i thought that the cord pulling away from the magnetic part of my adapter was normal wear and tear, until i started reading reviews. I use my Macbook on a daily basis for hours a day and it's started to show that even while plugged in, my laptop won't have a full battery even while the light on the adapter is green. It also puzzled me when i would unplug it and it would only last for a couple hours at a time. The Block portion of my adapter gets so hot it burns me, especially when i am playing a game on my computer or watch a DVD. One thing that scares me is that my computer is only 6 months old, not even a year and it has these signs of damage. I also don't have $80 to replace it and i'm afraid that i'm going to have to wait until it causes real damage like a fire or something else. no way am i spending $80 on something that shouldn't be broken this quickly into owning it. i guess i should be thankful that it hasn't melted or completely lost all of its use as a power adapter. Apple needs to lower the price AND fix these problems ASAP or i'm sure there will be very many unhappy customers.

I am about to buy my third one. The cord is too fragile from the charger to the computer. Why don't they sell just a replacement cord.
What I save on virus protection using a Mac I am having to spend on power cords.28 of 37 people found this useful

Not so Good
Written by JB

The way this power adapter works is...well it doesn't. Apple, you really need to redesign this thing. I know you wanted to make the design unique and everything, but the thing is cumbersome and very bulky. Is there really a need for all the fanciness? It's just a power cord. We've had two in the last two years break on us. It sticks out so far from the wall, it is a tripping hazard too! The pricetag is a bit steep as well. BTW, I love my Macbook, but this power cord needs some reinvention.

Redesign this product!
Written by MM from homestead
Jun 28, 2009
I have had to buy this product twice already within 2 years. But it seems I'm not the only one with the same problem as I have read the other reviews. The power adapter needs to be made stronger. It's bulky and heavy at the end with a flimsy cord that comes out of it. It needs to be tougher and be able to withstand "normal, everyday use." It is not fair that your cords malfunction and I have to spend another 80 bucks. It's great that the adapter is magnetically connected to the computer but it just doesn't make up for the rest of it. I can only hope that I don't have to buy this product again. It's inconvenient that I have to treat my adapter as if I'm walking on thin ice.

Dangerous Melting
Written by CB from Honolulu

I have had this charger for less than a year. I have already replaced it once. First, it started fraying right where it plugs in to the computer. Second, it started overheating and melting. If I didnt unplug it, I think my bed would have caught on fire. Very dangerous. It needs to be redesigned.

I LOVE APPLE...GOD KNOW I DO...BUT....COME...ON
This thing is not made for everyday use. IT's too fragile! My Adapter came apart right at the top of the adapter, where the cord meet with the magsafe piece that you plug into the computer.
Apple please make something a lot more sturdy.20 of 25 people found this useful

Recall Now!
Written by CC from Lexington
Jun 22, 2009
Apple needs to recall these before someone gets hurt. I have had my MacBook about 3 years. I woke up this morning to the smell of melted plastic. I searched high and low but couldn't identify the source of the smell. I realized a short time later that it was the power cord on my MacBook. It had melted overnight about a 1/4 inch from the magnetic connector end. Thank goodness it was on my stainless steel kitchen counter and not the couch. A recall is a no-brainer. In the mean time, I have ordered an 85w MacBook Pro charger. I believe it should work.

burn baby burn
Written by MG from Truckee
Jun 21, 2009
it's a really smart idea, i mean i wouldn't want my charger to get stepped on and mess up my computer but the thing got sooo hot around head where it plugs to the computer that that plastic melted just enough to not work anymore so now i need a new charger. A new charger is going to cost me $80. I give a two because it's great up until it melts and puts a dent in my wallet.

Great Costumer Service
Written by ML from San Gabriel

Last week, the wires for the cord melted the plastic sheath and eventually made the charger almost useless. I took it to the local Apple store and even though the entire store was packed with people, they replaced it. I really appreciated the good costumer service.

Melted cord
Written by BB from NEW YORK
Jun 20, 2009
Similar problems to other reviewers: the cord burned (turned brown) where it connects to the adaptor. It's 1.5 years old. Everything else about this adaptor is carefully designed. They should reinforce the cord where it comes out of the adapter, as it gets lots of movement back and forth at that point.

Bad magnetic end - cable fraying - not fixable

Agree with everyone else that poor design results in paying for an entirely new power supply when the cable is fraying at the juncture of the magnetic end.
