    On my third battery

    • Written by from Evergreen

First two batteries have gradually died and bulged; just ordered the third. It's like having to pay for a whole new transmission in a car every year or two. Unacceptable. This is seriously souring me on Macs and all Apple products by extension. This has never happened to a single PC laptop I've owned. If Apple stepped up and did the right thing by replacing these POS batteries even at reduced cost, I'd consider buying another Mac next time.

Does this battery make my laptop look fat?

    • Written by from Noblesville

    Yes.

Hey, I know any rechargeable battery won't last forever. It's the nature of the beast. But no battery should rend itself in two, damaging the laptop surrounding it. That's called a "flaw" apple. You charge enough for your products to cover a recall/replacement. But you won't.

Bad form, 800 pound gorilla, bad form.

The one flaw in a good machine

It wouldn't be so bad that these batteries don't last half as long as they should if they aren't twice as expensive as they need to be. I did buy a desktop model for my new computer, but I have to overpay for another battery to sell my MacBook

    Started great, aged gracelessly...

Battery started with about 4.5 hour of power. After "324" cycles and following all the instructions, my computer randomly cuts out at about thirty percent and needs to be "replaced now." Oh, yeah, the metal is warping/bulging and the glue is coming undone on the battery. Was good while it lasted, but I'm not too impressed with the life on this one.

    Bulging battery

Battery bulged... not much more to say. The computer is useless when I have the battery in because it's bulging so much that it is effecting the track pad. When I rest my wrists to type all of a sudden the computer randomly clicks on things. I believe this is actually a hazard to the user.

800 cycles. Follow the directions people.

Batteries DO NOT last forever, regardless of brand, loyalty to brand, or how you worship the moon. Time to replace my current battery. It's 2 years old, and has 807 cycles. And you know what? That's OK. 807 cycles in two years is more than one complete charge and discharge per day. I use my laptop 10-12 to 14 hours per day, all day. I run the battery as much as possible. And when new, I make sure to completely discharge then recharge to 100%. Follow the directions and you will get the expected life. After 700 or 800 cycles - it's time for a new one, no matter the brand. I once purchased an after market battery from a trusted reseller of mac only goods. And you know what? It was worse than the Apple battery. FOLLOW THE DIRECTIONS.

    2nd Bulging Battery

The Apple Store just replaced my second battery at no charge. Thanks to Apple for the great service, but this shouldn't be happening. I've have had several Apple laptops beginning with the PowerBook 100, this is the first one to have so many problems. Hopefully, the newer MBPs are more reliable.

    786 cycles already

I had the batt replaced two years ago for free by our Apple store on Center street here in Calgary. Since then no problems. I made sure its discharged 99% and then I charged it every time to 100%. Oh well, time for a new one but really 2 years ? my batt indicator tells me to replace it soon. it looks like my 17" mac cost me more and more every year. Probably the new batts are better, last longer. It would be nice for apple to replace this batt for free, just because 786 cycles are not quite up to their standards.

Love Macbook Pro - Hate the Battery

    • Written by from Toronto

I have to type this on someone else's PC because my battery dies when it hits 94% charge. This started happening a handful of days ago, and now the battery is physically expanding at a rapid rate. Basically my laptop just became a desktop, which is especially great for someone who works on the go. This is the second battery I will replace in less than two years. As I mentioned in the title of this review... I LOVE my MacBook Pro, but COME ON APPLE - make batteries that support your machines!!!

These batteries don't last. This is my third one, bulged out the other two. Sad to be buying another after a relatively short period of time, and at $129 a pop they ain't cheap! Apple should be warrantying these things IMHO. But I absolutely love the computer and this has been it's only glaring weak point, so I'll take it as a wart on an otherwise beautiful and wonderful relationship.

Always have loved my macs but have had to replace this battery several times. at $130 a pop, it really strikes as gauging us. Man, gonna have to consider something else. Can't just keep afford to throw money at problems.

Battery bulged and now won't hold a charge. Again.

    Terrible battery

Our company has purchased over a half dozen of these batteries to replace those that bulged. One expanded so quickly, the user reported that her laptop had "jumped" on its stand. Our company's IT department views this battery as a safety hazard, and we're glad we finally phased the last of them out.

    Another Bulging Battery

I've owned my 17" for a few years and i purchased a backup battery at the time of the original purchase. This was a bad move considering the batteries bulged just about a week a part. Thanks Apple! That was a waste of another $230.

Sudden battery bulge created dangerous razor blade that sliced me!!!

My 17" Macbook Pro battery was working fine, however it has always gotten hot enough to burn me. ---All of the sudden, one week ago, the bottom of the battery started bulging out (which I assume is due to the severe heat)---Only the SHARP, ALUMINUM bottom-panel, corner edge of the battery is sticking out. This happened literally overnight and I discovered it when I placed it on my lap, and IT SLICED ME OPEN!!! It is as sharp as a razor blade!!! Dangerous! I need to talk to someone about this ASAP.

    Bulging Battery MacBookPro4,1

    • Written by from South Pumpenbil

I discovered this morning that the battery for my 17'' MacBookPro4,1, had bulged significantly, a good 10mm (on the power chord end), and while still functioning the laptop no longer sits even on the table but rocks. Guess I'll have to replace it.
    Battery Health Information:
    Cycle count: 166
    Condition: Normal (? ... really!)
From reading other info I gather the battery life should cycle to 300 before loosing stamina. And of course warranty is way beyond claim unless it goes on the cycle count.
So, what's happening here Apple, the computer didn't eat that much over Christmas? Is it safe to continue using the battery?
If anyone has any further advice, I'd like to hear from you.
I've been an Apple fan and user all my computing/work life nearly 20 years now ... this is, however, a concern, as I do rely on my Mac for work.

Bulging battery....Apple! This is a recurring theme...What's the plan?

Like others, my computer was sitting awkwardly on my desk when I noticed this bulging thing out the bottom. Yes, that battery was separating and bulging. What is Apple's plan for correcting this issue. I don't want to make this an annual purchase.
