    Bulging battery

I'm on my 2nd. I wish someone would invent a new ( or compatible) battery design for the macbook pro 17" as I love my computer but am tired of having to watch the battery so closely to see when it starts to overheat and then bulge. I would never recommend this battery to anyone. I am afraid of it.

    MacBook Pro battery

Dear Apple, I pride myself in showing off this excellent machine. With no job, fortunately recieving unemployment and going back to college, ordering my Macbook Pro and 23 inch display was an enormous sacrifice. I saved and living with my partner I was able to pay it off all $4,000. With the death of my older G5 my MacBook was like having the world at my finger tips everywhere I went. In college studying graphic and web design I was thrilled we had all mac desktops, imacs 24 inch and I was almost the only one to have a MacBook Pro 17. To see my batterry literaly expand and come apart at the seems is like the sadness of Steve Jobs early departure from this earth. We, I, me and you, would have Apple if it had not been for him. Fix Our Batteries Apple, these things are defects for microsoft pc, not Apple Machines.

I'm here to purchase my 4th battery in three years. My enthusiasm for Apple's innovation is greatly tempered by the $600 drained from my wallet by this lousy battery.

    Battery Bulge, Trackpad freaking out

Same here, battery bulged and trackpad is freaking out with the pointer going all over and creating havoc. Ironically noticed it after Lion upgrade. However if I remove my battery and operate on just wall power, no issues with trackpad. Going to take it to Geniuses and see how they can help.

Just ordered my third battery in three years. First one died after a year. Second one expanded over the period of a week - to the point where the battery's case split, exposing the individual cells inside the casing. I have never seen batteries fail like these.

Bought my MacBook Pro in 2006. First battery bulged in 2008, and was replaced under warranty. The second battery has just started to bulge after about 2 1/2 years, so I've just ordered battery number 3. Wish they would last a bit longer than they do.

Always have loved my macs but have had to replace this battery several times. at $130 a pop, it really strikes as gauging us. Man, gonna have to consider something else. Can't just keep afford to throw money at problems.

Battery bulged and now won't hold a charge. Again.

    Expanding Battery - AGAIN

2 defective batteries in 4 years. And for the exact same problem. Expanding battery on my 17" Intel MB Pro. Second one happened tonight. Apple - you guys can do better than this. Happened to my wife's MB Pro also. So I would have to say there is a design flaw here. Guess I'm making a trip to the Apple store this weekend. *sigh*

    Bad Battery

I am getting ready to get my third battery in 4 years! The first one not only bulged, but physically separated allowing me to see the insides. The second battery started to bulge after a about a year and this time is pushed the area around the track pad up and permanently bowed a section. Overall, I am very please with my MBP(and 4 other macs) but this issue is very bothersome. Apple. Please. Do better.

    Battery of the Bulge

Purchased 17" MacBook Pro in early 2008. Recently it has been overheating and will shut down without warning if not connected to AC power. Then I noticed the battery was bulging out. Thought it was odd, but based on the sheer number of comments here, I supposed I'm in good company. Sad, sad company.

I have exactly the same problem, had my MBpro for 3yrs, and now the battery is bulging to such and extent that i cant use my trackpad button! this is clearly not what a battery is meant to do, and its not through misuse, it is clearly a design fault, and the fact that it happens with replacements too is so poor!

APPLE NEEDS TO SORT THIS OUT TO AVOID DISAFFECTING LOYAL USERS!

    Horrible Battery

Have gone through 2 of these batteries. The heat of the macbook pro causes the glue to come undone and the battery expands causing the trackpad to stop working. Apple did give me a free replacement the first time but I had to buy the 2nd one. Expect to go through about 1 a year if you use your computer daily. Should not be this way.

This is happening frequently. Apple should do something about this!

The battery on my 17-inch MacBook Pro just popped and bulged!

I'll have to get Apple to provide reasonable explanation and action.

    It's horrendous.

The thing gets so hot the glue holding the metal casing on the battery has melted, resulting in the bending of the casing. Now my laptop doesn't stay leveled. For such an expensive product, this is quite shameless.

G4 MacBook Pro 17" Battery Exploded

I too had the battery explode on the G4 MacBook Pro. At first it was a small bump that stopped my trackpad from working. Then the complete pop. It does seem dangerous.

    Another popped battery

This battery lasted 2 and 1/4 years before the cover popped open. It is a dangerous situation, and Apple advises replacing the battery right away because the computer runs on a reduced speed, and there's no saving files if you lose power from the adaptor. It is obviously a fairly common problem judging by the other postings that mention the same problem. Apple, do something about this!!!

I was surprised to see so many others have had exactly the same problem I have
    with my battery

a few weeks ago my macbook pro trackpad was starting to act funny the pad itself worked not too bad but the built in mouse part of it just didn't work I thought hmm maybe there's dust or something underneath it but the unit is pretty much sealed so that didn't seem too likely

I took out the battery and it seemed a bit inflated like canned food that has gone bad I tried the computer with just the power no battery and it worked great so I left it out

each time I tried to use the computer with the battery in it I couldn't use the mouse part of the trackpad so I left the battery out and to my surprise today about a week later the battery has expanded so much I can't even put it back into the computer

as I look straight on my battery with the big button in the middle and the five little lights on the right side the most expansion comes on the right side and the second most comes along the front below the button and five lights what gives? is this an example of built in obsolescence??

I bought my 17 inch macbookpro in the late summer of 2006 and it has worked well my partner bought hers in the summer of 2007 and I am assuming she will run into the same problems somewhere down the line that's not good news

I have never been impressed with macintosh batteries in terms of long life and good performance but I have never experienced anything as strange as this

I'm a university professor and do not abuse my computer it lays on a wooden desk most of the time so cooling should be no problem I would have thought that by now macintosh would have done something about improving the life of its batteries but instead it seems to have taken another direction entirely slow explosion

is this covered under warranty I sure hope so because I don't want to have to buy another battery for $160 and worry about it too coming apart at the seams

I love my mac and like my partner have always been a mac user even when the university would not support the mac platform because of the deals that dell could give them I fought and finally my university now also uses the mac program too

please restore our faith in the whole mac package certainly the battery is an important part of a laptop is it an air circulation problem within the unit a design problem I know that a mac could solve the design problem but not without a battery I would love to have a battery which performs well and which maintains power for many hours without being plugged in

get to work on the macbookpro and make those changes to it so that it works better meanwhile how about shipping me a new battery I only use a cellphone and don't want to waste my daytime minutes waiting to talk to the technical people
