    NOT so good!

My MacBook Pro is just over 2 years old and is used mostly connected to 120v power, but the battery is calibrated every 3 months as recommended. Today the battery expanded rather explosively, with a loud 'pop', warping outward and raising the computer off the desk. Batteries are not forever, but end of life should not be so dramatic.

Really enjoy using my MacBook Pro but was very disappointed when my battery started swelling then the plate outside removed half way making you see inside. This happened
last july (after 10 months of use). I live in Ghana, West Africa and had to save over a long period to send my sister money to get me my MacBook Pro. I had to buy a new battery because I could not send the spoilt one which is under warranty for replacement. Apple should really work on the battery.

    Battery Life

I have gone through 2 batteries in the past 2 years. After my first died, I called apple and purchased another. While I was ok with the cost, I was NOT expecting to have to again purchase another in less then a year. I called tech support after a few months of the purchase as it was not lasting past 2 1\2 hrs. The tech had me go into the properties and suggested that with the amount of usage it was on track. Not once did they ever suggest anything about a calibration. I would have done so, and if it is true that it saves battery life by unplugging and not over charging, I certainly would would have done so. Unfortunately, it is too late for either, as my battery indicator is showing "Condition:Replace Now". I do not have a date in front of me, but it has been within a year of purchase.

I will say that while this is frustrating, I LOVE my MacBookPro and will NEVER go back to a PC. It took me quite a long time to switch to a Mac, and I am a bit sad that I lost out on so many years with this AMAZING companion....LOL.... But, really, it has been an incredible transition and have been able to do some pretty significant things with my students and groups.

After 2 years, I now have a bloated battery. The bettery is really out of shape and I am a bit scared to use it. The computer now shots down when the battery level is still >10%, not like before there was a signal showing the battery level as a reminder.

I guess I don't have any other choice but to buy a new one, expecting a lifetime of maybe 1-2 years. That doesn't make me feel good.

Is there a program for replacement?

    MacBook Pro 17 inch battery

Just after 1 year, I noticed my battery cannot hold a charge. Of course the warranty says if it is a damaged battery, it will be covered. So I was told by customer service, it will not b/c I had it plugged in to long. Okay my fault. Still the battery should last longer than one year and hold a charge. When it is hot, it is scary. I am a flight attendant and I see how the lithium polymer batteries in any computer overheat. They are dangerous and can start fires. In training, we put out one with a halon extinguisher and the flame keeps reoccurring! I am probably more scared of the damage the battery can do than it keeping a charge. The last thing I want to do is be faced with putting out lithium batteries on airplanes as my business passenger's computer is ruined. Still the battery life and the overheating really do need to be looked into.

    Warping hot battery

Just like the many reviews here that talk about their warping hot battery, mine did the same. I paid $4000 CAD for my souped up Macbook Pro, and now I am terrified to invest any more money into a computer that may run the risk of catching fire and destroying all my important data. I agree that rechargeable batteries need replacing after so many charges, but for the cost of this computer, a little more attention needs to go into the production of a battery to accommodate it.

Okay, I love my MacBook Pro but one should think a battery would last longer. Mine lasted 16 months - guess I am luckier than those of you who only had yours last for 13 months. Pulled out the laptop in the airport on the way home from vacation and noticed that it wouldn't start up - I turned it over and saw that the battery was swollen!! I plugged it in when I got home and tried it with the battery in but after awhile the tracking went crazy so I took out the battery. I am glad that I looked at the reviews to see that I am not the only one having this problem. Thanks to those who rate products! As soon as I get a chance I am heading to the Apple store to see if they will make it right.

Plan on buying a new one every 14 months

These batteries work great at first.

Problem is Apple Care only covers the battery for 1 year. Like clockwork, my battery suddenly went from "like brand new" to "15 minute charge" 14 months after I bought it - 2 months after the warranty expired.

If you buy a 17" MacBook Pro, assume you will have to buy a new battery every year.

    Shape warped after one year.

A whole year of great performance and suddenly the aluminum sheet on the bottom of the battery came unglued and bows out. Making my laptop wobble as I type now. I am very displeased and will continue to "wobble" until apple admits error and corrects this fault in production.

Bulging battery? Apple may replace it.

I've had my MacBook Pro for 11 months. A few weeks ago, the battery would stop holding a charge. The computer would randomly shut down without warning when not connected to the power adaptor, and my iStat nano widget said my battery health was 1%. Then a couple days ago, the trackpad button stopped working, which in turn made my 3rd party USB mouse stop working. My battery was bulging at the seams, putting pressure on the trackpad. I was able to remove the battery and run the computer off the power adaptor, though this caused an unmistakable drop in performance. I called AppleCare tech support, and Apple will send me a free replacement battery so long as I return the faulty one. Before you buy this product as a replacement, talk to Apple: they may replace it for you.

    13 months - not good.

yes, i am yet another one that purchased the MBP and to be quite frank I have enjoyed it. Until recently that is. However, there comes a time when a new product JUST seems to come out of warranty, then things start to go sideways. To put it mildly. I am somewhat upset that after only 13 months my new MBP is starting to die. Battery wise. I have to admit that I never had any problem after four years with my 17" PB G4. why would I up upgrade to a computer that has 300 new Apps.and a fantastic new operating system. what about making sure the hardware lasts????? for the $ we spend for a better product one would have to ask why?

I do have a lot of faith in the Apple product and company but am starting to wonder if my foundation is starting to rock. Is it a lucky dip? when we purchase an Apple Product. Are we hoping it is not a dub? We the general Mac enthusiast don't even think about it because we know we are paying more for a quality product. hence the price of the competition.
So lets hope that someone in the hierarchy will see to it that the Batteries for portables tend to last for at least 2-3 years and not just the length of a 90 mi movie. I don't think it is much to ask, do you??
