    LAME

I love my macbook pro. Macs are the best!! But, the way they put the battery together for the macbook 17inch is LAME. I will be purchasing my third battery. I spoke with someone at their genius bar. Their reply was"That is totally normal for the battery to bulge and seperate". We have two other mac laptops that never had a problem. Really Apple, is this the way you treat your loyal customers with no free battery replacement for the company's error?!?!?! At the very least you should be offering batteries at half the price.

    APPLE's shame

I'm a PC user and I really can't change or trust all my work to Apple's platform.
I really understand computers inside out...and any Apple machine feels like you're 100 miles apart from the machine itself.
Bare in mind that I have an Apple II still working... and I don't hate Apple. It's not the right product for me.

Nevertheless, I some Apple devices due to my line of work... and now a really stupid thing happened with my MacBook Pro 17: Battery died and got bigger from one day to the other.

I came across with this board and I don't see any Apple representative answer all the raised questions. This is a really bad support... and now I'm going to feel realy stupid in having to buy a new battery....

So, Apple is also done by faulty humans

    Cheers

My Macbook Pro sits in a recording studio, always on A/C power, I cycle the battery every month and take primo care of the machine. after a couple of years the keyboard words very sporadically, and the trackpad quit, I discover it's because the battery has ballooned to 3 times it's original size, half melted!
Apple says they won't replace it, bummer, it would cost them probably $30 bucks to replace it, and if it had melted into a mixer console I'd be looking for legal relief to the tune of about $10 K- poor service in my opinion.

    Worst Battery Ever!

I am now on my way to the Apple store to purchase my third battery in four years. I take all of the precautions like monthly battery calibrations, turning the laptop off when not in use for prolonged times and occasionally letting my battery run down and I still fight the "battle of the bulge". My 2007 17" MacBook Pro is a true workhorse and I have no need to upgrade to the current unibody model. Now after spending over $350 in batteries since I purchased my machine, I have to seriously rethink my position.
With Class Action suits against Apple for a myriad of other problems, why hasn't anyone filed one over these defective batteries? Sheesh. Come on Apple, wake up and provide us a battery that doesn't swell!

Battery bulging and delamming. Took it to two different stores and no exchange. Battery still works, so the part should be replaced free of charge based on that very fact (i.e., part is not worn-out and thus needing replacement, but is defective and thus deserving replacement).

    MacBook Pro 17" - battery

I bought two batteries for my 17" Macbook Pro when I purchased the computer in 2006. Fantastic machine, nothing wrong with the computer...but in 2011, the battery started to bulge. I replace that one with the spare I got with the machine...after 10 month of use, it bulged, and the machine died. I was able to rebuild the hard drive, but the spare battery is shot...the case has separated and you can see inside the battery. Both batteries always ran hot. I think the heat is what causes the delamination and bulging of the battery. This is both a danger and a nuisance. Apple should replace obviously defective batteries.

On my way to replace my second bulging battery. This time I'm also having the strange track pad and keyboard issues. My Apple Care replaced the first battery but I no longer have coverage.

I've long supported Apple but this is very disappointing.

After 16 months of a very careful use (according to suggestions by apple) battery started to bulge. Apple replaced this for a new one for free. After 16 months happens the same with the second one. Another problem is that I have to remove it even if it still works, because I'm afraid it would damage the computer....!

Odd behavior with Track Pad and Track Pad Button, then computer shut down when Power Adapter off. Turned MacBook Pro over and saw battery bulging. Battery was bulging so much that outside surface was separating off. Removed battery and inside cover on battery split apart! It was being held together by being in the computer!! Hope pressure has not damaged internal components! Definitely product failure but Apple is not covering this, just have to buy another battery AGAIN!

Battery worked great and then bam! Looked like it exploded and the only the aluminum was keeping it all inside. Came here to see what the replacement would cost and saw every single other reviewer had the same problem. Would say to stay away from this battery for fear of it exploding or something, but really, what are the other options?

This is the second battery, and the same thing happened to it. It bulged and the laptop went dead. I have noticed for the past month or so that it was not lasting as long! this is frustrating, and so annoying. A very bad product indeed.

    Defective Battery

My original battery started bulging and lost power and laptop wouldn't stay on. I took it to the Apple Store and they replaced the battery. NOW, my AppleCare is expired and the battery that they replaced the defective one with is not even more bulged than the first one. Doesn't seem like something I should have to pay for since it's a factory defect.

Kinda disappointed. The 2nd battery I got at the end of 2009 is starting to bulge. The first one had the same problem. Gonna have to get a 3rd one soon. You'd think this problem would've been fixed. Third time the charm, perhaps?

I've had my 17" MacBook Pro for about 3.5 years...never a problem. Suddenly it was wobbling. I thought it had warped or something. Then I looked on the bottom and the battery was bulging. WHAT?!?! Some possible advance notice: it was shutting off, low battery, without any warning, as it used to do. I didn't notice any other changes.

Dear Apple, I pride myself in showing off this excellent machine. With no job, fortunately recieving unemployment and going back to college, ordering my Macbook Pro and 23 inch display was an enormous sacrifice. I saved and living with my partner I was able to pay it off all $4,000. With the death of my older G5 my MacBook was like having the world at my finger tips everywhere I went. In college studying graphic and web design I was thrilled we had all mac desktops, imacs 24 inch and I was almost the only one to have a MacBook Pro 17. To see my batterry literaly expand and come apart at the seems is like the sadness of Steve Jobs early departure from this earth. We, I, me and you, would have Apple if it had not been for him. Fix Our Batteries Apple, these things are defects for microsoft pc, not Apple Machines.

    Four batteries... all exploded

I just had my fourth battery explode. Apple has changed it free of charge the last 3 times after half an hour of explaining that batteries should not explode (they claim this is their usual way of expiring). Still, this should not happen. It is dangerous and I can't believe that they have not been able to fix it for the past 4 years.
