I do love this product, but along with the majority of people here, I am disappointed to find that you can't replace the battery.

This is as much of a warning than anything else, don't try and lever the sensor open with a knife!

I will be buying another sensor as mine has lasted for well over 600 miles, and hopefully the next one will do the same.

When I purchased the Nike+ ipod system, I assumed Apple and Nike would design a product that had a useful life of longer than a year... Most electronic products using a battery have a way to replace them, not the Nike+ ipod sensor. Expect to shell out $20+ shipping every year for a new sensor until Apple redesigns this product. Also, don't bother trying to buy this at retail Apple stores they don't carry them...

2 months 20 runs and the sensor is dead. Apple wont replace or refund. Its like a bad dream. Every facet of this systme is awesome.....the website, the ipod, the interface, but then they riun the entire pie by giving you a faulty sensor. with all the negative feedback they should really consider a new replacement policy.

I bought my first sensor in Dec and have a total of (33) 1 hour walks and the battery is now dead. I only use the shoes that the sensor is in to walk.

I really hope the revamp the design and allow the user to replace the battery. Spending $20 every 6-7 months just because a $3 dollar battery dies is crazy.

Please fix the design Apple and Nike!!!!

Other than this obvious flaw the Nike+ is great.

I first used my Nike Sensor last week and loved it. However, after 4 runs (about five hours of use), the sensor battery is dead. Can you imagine?? Now I need to buy a new sensor. Technology is great.....when it works.

Honestly, I am quite puzzled to see so many negative reviews. I absolutely love this product. I am on my first replacement sensor and have been using the Nike + system for 3 1/2 years. My best advice for those who complain about inaccuracy is to make sure to "accurately" calibrate the sensor. For best results, go around a track. I originally began running to lose weight and now I am training for a marathon. This has been a great tool for me to utilize the data and train accordingly. It's amazing to see where I started and how far I have come. Also, I have had maybe 2 instances where I have lost my workout data. Make sure you have enough power to complete your workout or your data will be lost. Also make sure your computer is completely charged prior to sending your workout to Nike +. Other than my own stupidity and user errors, this is a lean, mean, fighting machine.

The man that sold me the sensor told me that it is important to take the sensor out of your shoe when not using it because he said even the slightest bump of the shoe will turn the sensor on and drain the battery. I bought my sensor about a month ago and bought new shoes to go with it and just tried it out the other day and was able to get it to work for about 5 minutes and that was it. Now it just keeps saying "walk around to activate your sensor" and I walk and walk and walk and nothing happens. Am I doing something wrong or is it possible that the battery is completely drained before I've even had a chance to use it!?! I was so excited about this but now I'm just frustrated and annoyed.

Nike plus sensors. They may have a self life issue.

I have had nike+ for more than a year. The first sensor lasted for about a year or about 800 miles. I purchase a replacement (entire kit for $30) about 3 months ago. That sensor has died already and now I have to purchase another sensor or the whole kit because the sporting goods stores sell only the kit. Nike/apple should start label the kits as to the expected life of the part from the date of purchase. I love my devise as it is a real motivator but $30 every 3 - 5 months buying a sensor is a real bummer. Come on engineers you can do better than that. A small replacement battery would be wonderful idea.

Enjoyed using it for the 6 months it lasted. Run 5 x per week but didn't always use it, so it's not worth buying another unless they can improve the battery life. Can't believe I have to buy a new one if I want to keep using it.

Amazing Product For i-Pod Nano or i-Pod Touch

This is an amazing product if you have the right i-Pod. It works flawlessly and it is so simple, a caveman could use it! Great product, it's worth the money for sure so get out and get yourself one, but only if you have the right i-Pod! Remember it is not compatible with i-Phone, which is the only bummer.

Battery life is really limited. I got the kit for Christmas and by March the sensor battery was dead, despite me putting it to sleep after every run (3x/week). I wonder if some of them ship "on," because it seems like a consistent problem.

    Sensor Life

I rely on my sensor to keep track of all of my runs so it was a real disappointment when it died after 8 months. Unfortunately it stopped working midway through an 8 km run in frigid temperatures. I didn't get the satisfaction of recording my agony! I think that there needs to be a 1 year warranty on this sensor offered by Apple.

Replacing my sensor after a year and a half

    • Written by from Round Rock

I am surprised to see reviews were people are getting so few uses out of the sensor before the battery is running out. I wonder if it is a shelf life issue because I think the sensors are active when you get them. I just wanted to say I have been using my Nike + iPod for a year and a half. I have logged close to two hundred miles with over 70 runs on the original sensor.

Why cant we replace the battery?

I have had this unit for about 11 months and the sensor stopped working. I thought I would be able to just replace the battery and keep going. But, now I have to buy a whole new sensor!!!! It would be so easy just to design the unit to be able to replace the battery. Apple and Nike just want to keep that big buck coming in and care less about the consumer. $19 ????? How about $5 for the replacement? Sounds better than 3/4 the cost of a whole kit!

Bought the sensor in May 2011. It mostly worked well. It became temporarily unresponsive in July. Somehow I made it work again, but yesterday it seems to have finally died. I only run 1-2 times per week. Not sure if the battery is the reason. According to the manual, one should have received a notification if the battery was getting weak.

I had the same problem what I have seen others post...used few times, had it for over a year and suddenly the sensor does not work. It was frustrating and it took me a while to figure out why it is not working. Battery is dead. Why battery can not be replaced? This is not practical. Another scheme to have you spend few more bucks every year.
