This is a great product, but a little advertising would have been nice. A month ago I needed a sensor and had to buy the entire kit. I would have much rather bought just the sensor. This should have been out since the kits started selling.

Great, but why not a green option

As many others have said, an excellent product in terms of integration with the Nike+ site, and a joy to use... except for the battery life. On the one hand, $20 a year isn't a bad deal to replace the sensor when the battery dies, but with car remotes lasting years, and with the stated goal to be a greener company, can't Apple do a little better than everyone tossing sensors into the rubbish every year? How about a sensor recycling program where we can drop off old sensors at our local Apple Stores?

What a fascinating product from Apple!

Hi, I found this product is a real sensation. Still, I am trying to figure out how this little piece measures the distance close to real value! Other pedo meters compute the steps you take and multiply with a defined value. But, this device has no such calculation.

The bad thing from my side is the battery. I had seen several reviews on this. But, from my side, Apple and Nike should be environmental friendly company as they claim. How can they release this plastic product where the battery cannot be replaced?? What kind of design is this?

You are blind to learn whether this device is active or not. In iPHONE 3GS, there is no screen which tells the battery to be replaced or not. Whereas, the iPOD has a display about the battery status!

Economically, the value this product is $19 but a battery costs less than $3.

Apple designers, be friendly to environment and imagine, millions of the sensors will be dumped every year because of simple battery life!! Come on .... take the lead and be the user friendly leader..!

I like the chip in the shoe and have had no issues linking to my phone. The APP is what is terrible. It will pause and start your workout for no reason while walking. Also when you ge a call on your phone you have to stop your workout as the APP stops keeping track as well. There should be a way to configure the APP to not stop running during a call. I can walk and talk at the same time. Also need to make it so the APP does not pause with the slightest bump of the screen.

Good for iPod users but waste of money for iPhone4&3GS and iPod touch users

Works great at the beginning but accuracy seems to change as batteries die. With the Nike+ GPS app out there its a lot more accurate with or with out GPS and is a one time buy no replacement needed.

    Great except for the battery

I love the technology and having it posted to facebook motivates one to keep going. The only bad thing is the battery isn't replaceable. Apple likes to be "green" but making a product that you have to throw away and buy a new one when the battery dies isn't at all "green". Furthermore, when buying new, not all batteries are the same. Some last a year. Some don't. Perhaps some are on the shelf longer and get moved around to activate their battery? No idea, but all sensors are NOT equal in their life span. Apple REALLY NEEDS TO USE A REPLACEABLE BATTERY!

The first sensor I bought was dead and I didn't get a use out of it. The second sensor, I bought the least dustier one in the store nd made sure my iPhone 4 could connect to it before I even bought it.

    Works well, now

My first sensor needs to be replaced. I thought how could this be I've only done about 200 miles and in about 3 months?? I thought it said 1000 miles.. what the???

While doing a little reading.. I saw that the senor actually detects movement.. so even when I wasn't actually "running" the sensor was still ON therefore using up precious battery power. So.. no more trips to the grocery store still in my running shoes. Hopefully it lasts longer the second go round!

I love this product, but I too am very annoyed by having to buy a whole new sensor every year. $29 for the entire kit, and $19 for the sensor alone is a little ridiculous. Come on Apple!!

Battery dies early but Apple steps up !

My experience with the sensor has been pretty bad. I bought my first kit in October, '07 and the sensor was dead by February, '08. Apple sent me a new one under warranty and it died in May. Now, they have warrantied me again and hopefully, I'll make it the 5 months remaining until my one year anniversary purchase date in October '08. Sure, this unit is weaker than advertised but Apple has been stellar standing behind it. Just be sure to register the kit when you buy it and then just call Apple support if/when it falls short. You will have a new one in 2 biz days ! The more folks that do this, the better the product will become, or the shorter the warranty ;)

I bought my first sensor in Dec and have a total of (33) 1 hour walks and the battery is now dead. I only use the shoes that the sensor is in to walk.

I really hope the revamp the design and allow the user to replace the battery. Spending $20 every 6-7 months just because a $3 dollar battery dies is crazy.

Please fix the design Apple and Nike!!!!

Other than this obvious flaw the Nike+ is great.

    Poor battery life

Enjoyed using it for the 6 months it lasted. Run 5 x per week but didn't always use it, so it's not worth buying another unless they can improve the battery life. Can't believe I have to buy a new one if I want to keep using it.

    flawed

Bought the sensor in May 2011. It mostly worked well. It became temporarily unresponsive in July. Somehow I made it work again, but yesterday it seems to have finally died. I only run 1-2 times per week. Not sure if the battery is the reason. According to the manual, one should have received a notification if the battery was getting weak.

    My battery is still good

I'm surprised by the prevalence of short battery life stories. I used my kit from March to November 07. I wear different shoes in the winter and didn't bother to add the sensor. I've used it from March this year and still going. But I only use the shoes that have the sensor for running. One strange thing though. I have the sensor in a Marware pouch attached to the laces. When I switched it from a pair of Reeboks to Adidas, the distance data changed considerably. It always varied slightly depending on my pace but the shoe change created variances of 3-400 meters for the same run.

I think it's a great little gadget. However, I've used it only six times and now the receiver can not detect the sensor. The only thing I can figure it that the battery is dead. I'm not very impressed on having to buy another.

The Nike+ is an awesome accessory to any iPod, although, I have to say that the battery life in my sensor was nothing compared to what Apple said in the overview...

Great, but doesn't last very long

I recently just started running and have heard this is a great thing to have. It works nicely with the iPod and it tells you the distance you've covered without having to Google map your route. But I've only used it twice and it's already died. Not sure if I want to get another one if it's going to happen again.

    Ipod sensor reactivation

    • Written by from Brownsburg

I love the product but it is not easy to reactivate a sensor. I tried 3 different sensors until my original one started working. Apple when you review this product find a way that the owner can tell if the sensor is on or off. Find an easier way to activate the sensor also. I must have walked 2 miles without knowing if it was on or off. The apple support people were super and encouraged me to write a review.

    Phone Doesnt Recognize Sensor

I used the sensor once and it worked very well. The next time I tried using it my phone -iphone 3gs, couldnt pick up the sensor - it kept saying "walk around to activate the sensor". Does this mean the battery is dead? I have only used it once for a 30minute run...

Sensor died after 2 1/2 months!

I love the Nike + iPod system; it's awesome. Unfortunately, my sensor battery died after just 2.5 months. I'm buying a new one, but not happy about it. If it dies again after a short period, I think I'll have to say goodbye to the whole system. C'mon Nike! Get a better sensor!
