Have owned it for a month now & I have no real complaints. It's certainly not a technical training device (for example, it has a hard time with accurate calculations if you're doing intervals/fartleks/whatever), but I just set my goal for 'time' and do my workout for stuff like that. It's otherwise pretty accurate for me. Dunno what the .5 mile off comment was all about. I guess over 26.2 mi it may get off a bit, but for the 3-5 miles/day I run, it's just fine.

Also, I use mine on non-Nike shoes and it works just fine with a little pouch on the laces.

    Calibrate before you use!

I should have calibrated it before I used it for the first time today. There's no way I ran 8 miles. I ran about 5 miles. I calibrated it tonight and I hope it's more accurate for the next time I use it.

Otherwise...I'm really stoked. I couldn't wait to use it today and I can't wait to use it again tomorrow. I think it's really going to help me in my training for my first marathon in 10 months.

You can buy a shoe pocket from any running store (Nathan brand made for Nike sensor) that fits right on your shoelaces. It works perfectly with this sensor.

The sensor itself is fantastic! I love it! I tracks everything for you (speed, distance, personal best). Plus if you are going for a time or distance run, it alerts you of milestones (ie: you've gone 1K, 9 more to go...etc)

    Buy it! You'll love it!

    replace JUST THE SENSOR

for those of you who keep buying a new kit when the battery goes dead:
you can buy just the sensor for $20.
also cool if you have two pair of shoes and you're lazier than you are poor.

Best speed and distance unit for the price!

This is one the best speed and distance unit I have owned yet. I have had the Tailwind and other Nike products which were all good as well as Polar products. For $30 this one is great for the runner who listens to music while training. I hope Nike can come out with an all in one heart rate/speed and distance unit some day. I still use a HRM in addition to the ipod. Distance seems pretty accurate once you calibrate the unit and the personal best messages are a lot of fun too!

    Great Motivational Tool

If you are like me and not normally a running buff, consider this product a lifesaver. I committed to finally get myself back in shape and this system has been a huge part of helping me stay on track. Is it perfect? No, but it has become an essential part of my workout routine.

    Positives:

It tracks all data you need to record each run.

The unit will verbally tell you when you have hit preset milestones, or update progress at the push of a button.

The webite allows you to create and participate in races and challenges keeping the running part fun.

Interface with Google on the website to map out runs and then assign that map to a downloaded run. You can compare your progress over any "loop" you might choose.

    Negatives:

Need to own an IPOD nano.

I have not had any of the physical problems to date, but paying $30 for an IPOD acessory feels like I have already gotten a good deal.

Good luck, have fun....Just DO IT !!

    Truly Amazing Gadget

The Nike+ kit works seamlessly with the iPod Nano (2nd gen for me). Calibration was a cinch after entering height and weight and more importantly, it is correct! This is everything I thought I would get for $30.

Then there's the software side -- iTunes can upload the data to nike.com (after a quick registration). Being able to plot charts on the nike site is pretty helpful in tracking progress. I felt these features were a big value add and it's great that it's included in the $30 cost of the hardware.

All in all a great product. Find someone who has one and have them show it to you -- it's a very underrated product when you consider how much you're getting for your money.

Ok, I am a confessed "Gadget Girl"...but this is the best $30 I have spent on any gadget! I LOVE this. It motivates me, and acts as my running Log.

I find it to be very accurate. I also have the Garmin Forerunner GPS and I calibrated my Nike+ with it and since then they are always right on together. Thank You Nike and Apple... I am about to run my first Half Marathon thanks to the motivational training I have done with this.

I also love the nike plus workouts on itunes..Improve your indurance and Improve your speed

I have a hard time keeping in shape and this is a huge boost in motivation. I bought my ipod for working out since it was small and still had a readable screen. This is the best add on there is for the nano.

Using the Nike + iPod has allowed us to continue friendly competition, from a distance, and have some fun with a little trash talk on the Nike site. I have used it so much that my battery has to be replaced already

I love this device. I have logged over 400 miles using this device. I'm avid runner who runs about 20-35 miles a week. So I've been using it for awhile.
I find the device totally accurate (after you calibrate it) even though I'm using a 3rd party device to attach it my running shoes (you can wedge the shoe sensor in your laces but I'm afraid it might fall out hence why I use the 3rd party device to attach it my running shoes).
I like the ability to set the device to different distances (2miles, 5miles, 10k, 1/2marathon, etc..), time, custom, etc... My job requires me to travel a lot so I love the ability to set it to a certain distance because I don’t always have time to map out the perfect route to make sure I’ve put in my miles this week. Since the device provides me with statistical info such as avg km/miles per hour, distance I’ve gone, half way mark or I have x miles/km left, etc. - Now I can lace up my shoes then chose a direction to run in and go for it. I also love the ability to set it a timed run because Nike + sport kit will tell me when I’m at the half way mark in run so I know when I need to turn around to head back.

The only down fall is the iPhone doesn't support it. :-(
I love my iPod nano but I really whish I didn’t have to carry a iPod nano and cell phone - Would love to carry just one device.

This thing is amazingly accurate. I figured it would be pretty far off, but bought it anyway, as it's only $30. I was wrong, it is exactly on. It's really pretty amazing that it can nail down distance so well. It's easy to use, syncs up automatically and sends your run data to the Nike+ site, where you can do all kinds of cool things to track your progress. When you're running, you can quickly glance down at any time to see your current pace, distance traveled and time elapsed. It's not only helpful in getting the most out of your run, but it's motivational. I find myself running on days when I'm way to sore to be running, just because I want to use it. It's fantastic.

I've had this for a full week and have used it on my last 5 runs. It's an amazing addition to my workout. I had Nike+ shoes, but there are options for using it with other brands of running shoes, too. Best 29 bucks I've spent in a long time.
