Buy it and get running, don't worry about the battery life issues

I love this product, it served as a great motivator to begin running again. I just purchased a second sensor after the battery ran out on my first sensor. The first sensor lasted for one year or ~600 miles. I was disappointed the battery did not last as advertised. However the replacement sensor is well worth my $20 for the motivation during running. The voice feedback system is great, the online stat tracker is great. Accuracy is nearly spot on. I RECOMMEND THIS PRODUCT. Get it and go run!

Because of this, I am running a lot more

I was given this product over a year ago and have put almost 500 miles on since. That is probably not an impressive number to many runners, but it is a lot more than I was running before this. My battery in the sensor just ran out and I ordered a replacement today. Thoughts on this are on the sensor review. As for the system, my only real complaint is that it is not compatible with the i-phone. I run with my i-phone, so why should I have to carry my nano?

    Best motivation I've found

I'd heard this was a great item but it has exceeded my expectations. I never recall *wanting* to run before (only *needing* to run), but I'm looking for excuses to run more now (sometimes twice a day). A great product.

Kinda fun, and quite useful, BUT. . .

. . . the sensor is a bit unwieldy when it comes to battery life. My kit went unused for about 3 months. I had turned it off per the manual and it was still dead when I tried to use it again.
The system itself is great and a lot of fun to use. It was really cool to see my runs drawn out on the screen afterwards. It really shows a lot of potential to track progress (if the sensor's battery lasts long enough for the progress to show up).
Replacement sensors aren't a cost-effective measure, as they cost almost as much as an entire kit once you factor in shipping. I'd be willing to pay a little more for a kit so long as I could just replace a battery when it goes kaput.

I olny got this today bt i am very happy with it so far. i have olny ran with it once and i enjoyed the run alot, i am not much of a runner but this helps me to get into the swing of it and i like it alot. The words the person says are quite helpful. i havnt got an armband or anything for my ipod because everything was a bit pricey but i am using a livestrong armband to hold it in and i might get a sweat band aswell to keep it well tucked in :D although i couldnt reach the buttons if its in there. All in all i have enjoyed this product alot and i will be using it alot in the future :D

    Amazing product

This product is amazing. I don't even need the Nike shoes - I just put a little pouch to hold the sensor on my Asics. Works perfect. I have had no problems with it. The Nike site does an amazing job of tracking progress and keeping me motivated with challenges. So far I have run about 80 miles with it and works fine. Even if the battery dies- it is only a $30 replacement - worst case senerio. This thing is worth a lot more than $30 anyway!

I always use this when I run. It keeps me motivated, and I love knowing how much longer I have until I'm finished.
The voice telling me the information is awesome, especially for sunny days when I can't read my ipod Nano screen because of the glare! I HIGHLY recommend this product by Apple and Nike! TIP: Make sure to shut the sensor off after you're done otherwise the battery will die.

    Short battery life

Like many other people, I think this concept is brilliant! However the battery already died and I only left it on over night once.
It saddens me that they would create a product like this with such a minimal battery life. I doubt I will buy another one since it seems this is a common thing and I might as well get a health club membership for a little more a month!

I Love this tiny gadget. I've had it about a year and since I only run three or four times a week and do not leave it in my shoe when not in use I'm still on my first sensor. Apple should however sell the sensor individually sans the uplink for the ipod since they freely admit that the battery will die and can't be replaced. If they do this already I haven't run across it. I don't have nike+ shoes either but I just stick the sensor in my shoe laces and it works just fine. It's only popped out of the shoe laces once but you can tell right away since your workout is paused for you, and since it's bright orange it was easily found. I have no complaints and really like this product it does make you feel like you're making progress since it praises you for running a faster mile or a longer workout. I recommend this product for a runner who likes to keep track of how fast they complete milestones or a person trying to lose weight since it counts your calories burned.

Battery Life Is A Major Problem

Get this folks..wonderful Apple products...right! more like a greedy way for Apple to take money from the running community. Shame on Apple and Nike for misleading us.
My son purchased this wonderful sensor for me for Christmas to go with my new ipod. (it can actually be recharged) I ran with it one time and the sensor battery is completely dead. That's right...one run folks. I believe they sell this device with the promise that it will last 1000hrs. Wow that must have been a world record run I went on..huh?
Shame on them for sticking us like this...shame on me if I waste money on another. won't happen!
    Buyers beware!!

    short sensor battery life

I really liked this product. But I am also very disappointed by the sensor. I own two of this product. The first one worked excellent for 3 months then the sensor's battery run out. So I bought the second one. To save battery this time I turn the sensor off when the first time I am not using it, then it can't be turn on anymore.

I only use it for 1 hour per day. When not running, I am not wearing it at all. The sensor suppose to last for 1000 hours, but 1 hour per day for 3 month (about 100 day)-is only about 100 running hours then the battery died.

The second one shows me the poor quality of switch on the sensor.

    Disappointing longevity and service...

Having purchased this kit in September of '07 and already having my foot pod sensor battery die, I'd say the claimed 1,000 hours of use is far from realistic. I've put maybe 300 miles on the sensor, at best, and have been sure not to wear it unless I'm actually running, but still with only 3 months into it, I'm faced with having to replace it.

On the service side, I went to my local Apple store and asked if someone could help me with my sensor, (didn't even get a chance to ask for a replacement), and was told that it's a Nike product and that I'd have to talk to them. I pointed to the Apple logo clearly printed on the front of the sensor and said, "even though your logo is clearly present?" She simply said, "Yep!" So, needless to say, Apple doesn't back this product.

That being said, it's fun to use and somewhat accurate most times, but is that worth $30 every 3 months? If you try to simply buy a replacement sensor, it'll cost you roughly $1 - $2 less than a whole new kit once you factor shipping into it. Good luck.

    I love Nike +, BUT..

I love this product! It's motivational in ways that could potentially make companies a lot of money and benefit a lot of people. If done right. For instance: For the life of me, I don't know why they only make this compatable with the iPod nano. Even if it is because the nano is flash memory, so is the iPhone! They could only help themselves and others by opening up this product a little.

Great innovation, but...Please, Give us more.

I am a user of the nike + ipod i ran 4 times with it and my battery is aheady running low. it sounds like apple is so smart that it got all of us again. why can't they just make something that charges itself. I guess it would not be profitable.
    Thank you.

    Battery problems

The concept of this product is great. However, after receiving it as a gift for Christmas 2007 and only having run 40 miles, I am getting a low battery warning for the sensor. These shoes are only used when running, so there should be no problem. Since item was a gift, I have no receipt to return and Apple requires I purchase a new one.

after buying this item in June it is acting wacky..Last couple of runs it says I ran a incorrect distance and also ran zero miles a hour!!! it is impossible to get support to help on this. Apple is so busy patting themselves on the back lately they are forgetting about helping their current customers..not good!

This is a fantastic product which can easily alter your life for the better. If you don't like the Nike+ shoes, I beleive there are 3rd-party items (see other reviews) that you can use with the shoe of your choice.

The website is great as well. The iPod stores your latest information, which can then be synced to nikeplus.com automatically through iTunes. Your data is plotted and you can make a yearly resolution with monthly goals, all of which can be tracked.
