If you're looking for a high end piece of equipment with high level precision, this may not be for you. If; however, you are looking for an extra bit of motivation and a great wake to keep track of your progress, buy it!

Regarding the comments about the battery, the sensor has a tiny button on the back to turn it off and on. Nike says it will have 1,000 hours use so I figure the way I run (6 to 8 hours/week), it should be good for a year. $19/year isn't too bad. I do wish they would come up with one with a replaceable battery, but until they do this is about the best thing for the money I've found. Given what I spend on shoes, etc., $19 over a year doesn't change my running budget that much.

Anyway, I love this addition to my running!

I love this thing. I've only been on a couple of runs, but it has been great. It definitely motivates you for your run, and it is cool to get the analysis after your workout.

Be sure that the sensor is the facing the correct way or else it will not work correctly (my first 2 mile run was measured as .4 miles).

its really worth the money i think to its potential of 1000 hours of life and make custum workouts id think that anyone who enjoys a good jog or walk would really like this. although there is one problem, it some times goes blank on me because if you do not have the special nike+ shoes you need to buy a clip on to atach to your shoes and even though it doesnt move at all i have to put it on my left shoes and keep my ipod touch in my right pants pocket and i think im supposed to get an accesory to put the ipod touch on my are but its still over all pretty good.

I LOVE THIS. I use the Nike+ with my 2nd gen ipod touch. I love that you can press the home button and it'll tell you your progress, calories burned, distance, time, and pace! I also really like that every 50 calories you burn you get updated. This is definitely a great motivator for people who are trying to get out and run more. In conclusion, GREAT PRODUCT!

WOW - and not just for Nike Shoes

So this thing rocks... I never thought I could get motivated by my nano. I went onto amazon and bought a silicone shoe adaptor that hooks into your laces. An additional $5 and I was all set. It literally counts your steps, your miles and your pace down to the foot. I LOVE THIS, at anytime during your work out you can check your progress by hitting the center button and it will tell you your pace, mileage and how long you have been working out. I recommend this to anyone who likes to see how much you have done. The online catalog that holds all your workout information lets you customize your work out to say that you felt good, it was raining, etc... Totally recommend this to anyone who asks.

    Feedback -voice or on screen

I've been using the Nike+ sensor and receiver for 3 years now. I mainly use it with my iPod which i prefer over the phone when I'm walking on the treadmill at home. The only thing I don't like it is when you click for feedback your not informed of how many calories have been burned up to that point but it tells me distance, time and pace and shows that on the screen. is there a way to have it added to the feedback or on the screen at some point. yes, you can set up by how many calories you want to burn but if you set up the work out for basic or distance then you have no idea how many calories burned until you end workout and then it's too late if you wanted to go further.

    thanks!!!!

Good tool....got me to become a runner

I started out with just an ipod nano and would run on my treadmill for a little while but then decided once i got some shoes at the NIke outlet..that i would fork over $30 to give this a try..i haven't stopped running since...

I did just run in a race and the accuracy is off by about a half a mile so I have been researching how to get that more accurate..and have found a couple things to try..but overall..this has been SUCH a great tool. My first sensor last well over a year and i logged about 550 miles last year..I am well on my way to doubling that this year so I don't know if my sensor will last that long but so far so good...

I love it...i woudl reccomend it and have to several friends

If only more shoes had a slot for this

Granted, lots of people have pointed out how easy it is to add this sensor to your other shoes, but I really wish they're were other shoes you could get to use with this right out of the box. That being said, I have precious few other complaints about this system. Simply put, it is amazing. I tend to be motivated by other people normally, but when I'm running by myself there's no one but me. My Nike+ has done wonders for me in terms of improving my run. Sure other people have said how great it is that it tells you how you're doing while you're running. But in addition to that, when you're finished, if it was, say, you're longest or fastest run, a fitness celebrity comes on to tell you so! Sadly, in the 3 years I've owned this I've only heard their voices about 4 times, but it's part of what motivates me. The other thing that helps me is looking at the website. Like I said, I like being motivated by others, but the OTHER thing that motivates me a lot is seeing at how badly I'm doing. When I pull up the website and I see that I haven't run in almost a week I basically HAVE to go out and run. And let me tell you, there's not many feelings better than looking at your graph and seeing that you've run even more than you planned, and few things worse feeling than looking at it to see one run in a few weeks.

I really wish there were more products out there like this, because while I love this thing, I haven't seen a whole lot change to it in the past couple years. My biggest gripe is that I like to do interval training for speed, but I have yet to find a good way to do it with this thing. And it has an annoying habit of playing my playlists only in the order I originally made them, shuffle would be nice. Lastly, it sometimes screws up and plays the wrong playlist when I'm using a pre-set worked and thus I don't ever use them. Don't get me wrong, these deficiencies are no where near enough to make me dislike this product. I would buy this again any day. Nike's website has had continually growth in the past years, but again, it's sadly about the only thing that I feel has changed.

If you're someone who was never a runner before but is trying to get into it, I think this is the best thing in the world, it's motivating and amazing with helping you improve. I think these things should be given out at birth, along with the Nano. (Too far?)

Excellent motivation with very minor bugs

I just started running last year and found when I finally purchased the Nike+ sensor I had renewed motivation to run and try to beat personal bests and set goals and challanges to continually do so. Easy to setup, easy to use while jogging (as long as you have the right armband for your ipod/iphone/itouch).

My only issue is the sensor would not wake up from 'sleep' on occasion and required aggressive shaking and tossing from hand to hand to get it to respond (troubleshoot according to Nike webiste) which is the last thing you need to struggle with when you are warmed up and ready to run, but once i figured out the trick it's worked flawlessly.

    I recommend!

I just recently got the sensor and I love running with it. The only flaw is even after callibrating it a couple times the distance is off by a few tenths of a mile every run, which in the long run will turn into miles off from what i actually ran. The map it on the nike site is accurate. Overall one of the best products for working out I have bought.

    An Overall Great Product

Definitely a good buy in my opinion.

I've had some Nike+ shoes for a while now and recently bought this product not too long ago (about two weeks ago), and I've been using it since then. The entire thing is easy to use and a nice experience. I've used it while running on the treadmill and it records everything accurately (not sure if your experience may differ though, I've read that some people don't get accurate runs). The way it syncs to your nikeplus account is definitely something else, it's a great way to keep track of your progress and see how you're doing.

Overall the product is great but has some minor problems, which may or may not include:
    - Hard time finding your sensor
    - Starting without your sensor
    - And the sensor should be cheaper...
But you just have to make sure you're using it correctly and know how to save battery, the instructions it brings are a must to read if you don't know much about how it works. So I give it a 4/5.

You do NOT need this with Ipod Touch

Two staff members at the local AppleStore told me I needed the whole kit. Ordered online as it was on sale and when I plugged the reciever in, the Ipod said there is already a reciever built in to the Touch. Checked it and it works great. Super system but don't waste your money, all you need with Iphoe or Touch is the receiver. Also, there are companies that make great lace on sensor holders, just look in any runners magazine or Google it. I'd give it a 5 star if I hadn't wasted the money.

    Great for training

I bought this to help me keep track of my running regimen. I started training for a marathon and had very strict guidelines on how long my runs had to be. 90% of the time, the Nike+ gear is very reliable and very accurate, but be careful that you don't change your stride and sprint too much, because it does not adjust well to changes in strides.

Overall, it saved me about 1000 headaches in trying to map out routes, especially when I got up to 18 mile runs, where to map out it would be a real pain. Highly recommended for the beginner, pro, or anywhere in between.

    Works...but is very inconsistent

    • Written by from Pittsburgh

48 of 51 people found this useful

I've been trying to increase the distance and time that I can run for, and I'm a former track athlete but I was a sprinter. Running long distance is very different for me, and so I bought this to help me keep track of what I was doing and how fast I was going.

It's a great idea and it works well if your strides are very consistent. Mine aren't, and I think the sensor either gets confused or straight up doesn't work (I've tried calibrating it, and it makes no difference).

I run on the treadmill at a steady 7.5 mph pace, which is an 8 minute mile. More often than not, the readout on my phone says I'm going at 23'11" per mile and then it jumps wildly to slower mile times, especially when I speed up to 10 mph on the treadmill (6 min./mile).

I'd be really careful buying this. It might be that it isn't very accurate on the treadmill, but it never seems to be right. I thought it would be exact but it's definitely far from it.

Also, as some other people noted- it's a huge hassle to have to turn the shoe sensor off. Nike should redesign their shoes so that you don't have to remove the insole, or make the battery replaceable and cheap. Buying a new sensor is ridiculous and I understand why that would irritate a lot of people.

Overall, the product is really cool, and it works great with the iPhone 3GS. The NikePlus website is PHENOMENAL for setting workout goals, tracking calories and distances, and mapping out your performance.

My recommendation is this: If you have the money and you want to add more objectivity to your distance workouts, then it's worth a shot. Just know that there's a possibility that if you're capable of running anywhere between a 4:30 mile and a 10 minute mile that it might act up and give inconsistent paces when you check during your workout.
