    A Matter of Luck Maybe?

I own my Mac Pro since the fall of 2007, and I am still using the same battery, so I guess i am one of the few lucky ones. I confess that in the beginning I did not understand why the battery didn't last me, but one of the technical support experts explained to me how to program the battery accordingly to have it working at optimum level. Ever since I followed the instructions, the battery has worked accordingly for the hours expected, and it has been fine all these years; it has not been until lately that I am finding the battery runs out too quickly, so I figured it was time to buy a replacement before it runs out completely for good. However, after reading so many unsatisfied customers, I'm very hesitant to spend that kind of money in such gamble, specially since I have been unemployed for a very long time. I guess that I can get by, for I'm only using my laptop at home, so I can deal with the problem for the time being using the electrical plug most of the day, leaving the battery resting until I may need to use the laptop outside my home or away from the outlet. I only wish that buying a replacement would be a lot less expensive, so at least it would be easier to take a chance on it, and it also would give a needed break to all the people like I, who either are unemployed or completely broke going through college. Let's face it, Apple is a multi-billion dollar enterprise, so I'm sure the company can easily afford without much damage to its profits to lower some of the prices, specially of accessories and replacement parts. Until that happens or I'll find a job, I'll be on stand by dealing with my old battery and the issues tagging along with it. Thanks! G.

It last 6 months before stuff (whatever its called). Bad, bad product. Hopeless here since it is a proprietary format. Keep your charger in a pristine condition...you will need it.

my battery has lasted a long time but the life of it is very bad apple says 7 hours of battery life when on the second lowest brightness i can sometimes get a bit more than 2 hours if I'm lucky. but seriously if they expect us to use it on no brightness than they are crazy because it is impossible to see the screen anywhere on earth.

The MACBOOK PRO battery is simply USELESS, unless you plan to use your laptop plugged into the wall outlet AT ALL TIMES, by another laptop or get another extra battery every 6 months!
Unfortunately APPLE has not yet realized that their batteries are simply unacceptable.

JJ from Montgomery (calling people idiots is inappropriate when you don't know what they are doing) For 20 years I have used macs and I know how to take care of the batteries so believe me when I say these are junk. You pay this much money for a computer you would think the company is upstanding enough to make sure you can use that computer with the battery. Thus the reason for a laptop. If I wanted to be plugged into the wall all of the time I would be using my desktop!!! I would like to see the numbers on the batteries that are lasting for a long period of time against the ones that aren't! Look at the reviews and tell me who the IDIOTS are... MAC?????

Purchased one of these batteries approximately one year ago to replace the original, and now its dead after 59 cycles. Extremely poor design and performance from it, but replacing the battery is much cheaper than replacing the laptop. Somehow thats not much consolation...

    Defective

A year and a half after I bought my macbook, the battery went bad. It was at 60% original capacity after 156 cycles. They replaced it for free because it had been recalled. The battery they gave me has since done the exact same thing, only it is at 44% capacity in 127 cycles.

Take home message: many of these batteries from Apples manufacturer are defective, just outside of the warranty.

This is a classic example of bad manufacturing! 2 of these batteries boated ( like a football) from improper manufacturing! If you have these batteries in your possession I suggest you check the cycle count and check the serial no#.

However, that said. I do like a battery that is serviceable by the user!

I love apple products but I am on my second battery and my computer is only 3 years old. When they are new they are great but they lose life FAST.

I got my MacBook Pro in 2007 and my battery just started acting up. I agree the battery gets very hot on long time use. Overall, its a realiable battery and today is when I decided to buy a new one after 4 years.

I use my laptop extensively. extensively means around ten hours plus a day. I had bought my laptop in the summer of 2008 and it is now August 2011. My battery is still working properly. I would have to add that for the past year and a half i did what i wasnt suppose to, keep the charger plugged in when the battery was fully charged. that destroys the battery life. Normally, (during the first two years) i allowed the battery to cycle through, however, i have been getting annoyed of charging it and letting it cycle that i nearly killed my battery life. It now holds forty minutes, originally it lasted 2-4 hours on how i used my laptop (keeping the contrast low and stuff)

im debating whether to officially wait for my current battery life to die to replace it or whether to buy it now... but im a broke college student so i guess it can wait.

Can hardly believe that the replacement battery for my 15" MacBook Pro only lasted one year.
The battery that came with the MacBook lasted three years. Why does Apple sell such a POOR product to Apple customers? I notice that I'm not the only one who has complaints about this product.

The second worse thing Apple makes

I am so dissatisfied with my MacBook Pro battery because it has no longevity whatsoever. Even when it was new, it underperformed my friends' PC batteries (yes, I followed the owner's instructions). Now that it's nearly dead about a year later, it only lasts for about 20-30 minutes depending on what I'm running. Now I have to waste more money on a new one. What a racket! It's almost as useless and disappointing as Apple headsets, which I will never purchase again for my iPod.... This is THE WORST computer battery I know of, and certainly my LEAST FAVORITE aspect of owning a MacBook Pro.

    Idiots

Take the battery off the charger when you are at full power and then let it work down to 25% power. People need to stop bad-mouthing this product because of their incompetence. If you do not let your battery cycle through it will never be able to use off the energy and the lithium ions will start not working as well, thus reducing your battery usage. I have had the same battery for 1 year and i can still get 4-5 hours usage out of it. Depending on what I'm using the computer for.

I'm about to purchase my 4th battery in 3-1/2 years. Do I have a choice?? Nope. They hold a nice long charge for about 3 months after purchase, then start to decline quickly after that no matter what charge/recycle maintenance advise Apple gives you. After 9 months my current battery will only hold a charge for 30 minutes. Pathetic, considering what they cost!

    Same story (disappointment)

My story is almost exactly the same, as "LZ from Lansing" described: I bought MacBook Pro in Spring 2007, replaced battery in December 2010, and since last week or in 7 month since purchase it's no longer rechargeable. 144 cycles doesn't seem a big number to die. Now I'm puzzling whether it's reasonable to continue using this Mac as the maintenance costs $159+13%HST every few months for new batteries look high. Nevertheless, it would be great to hear information about improvements in reliability of this type of batteries. Even though the computer purchased in 2007, price paid at that time was almost twice more than for the current MacBook Pros. I understand that business is business, but respect to the "veterans" would be appreciated :)

This battery in my laptop lasted close to 5 years before it showed any sign that it was no longer holding a full charge. Once that started though, the decline was rapid. From what I hear, that's a pretty good run.
