    very disappointing

Battery is 11 months old with 109 cycles. Almost completely dead at this point. I don't even get a low battery warning before my laptop shuts down.

I have had my MacBookPro for about 14 months (I love the computer), but over the past two months, if I unplugged the power source, my battery will only keep my computer on for about TEN MINUTES. The battery appears to have almost a full charge. Of course I don't qualify for the battery exchange program (not sure why...all my problems are the same as the ones they're exchanging), and my Apple Care has expired. So, if I want to use my laptop unplugged, I am going to have to buy another faulty battery for $129! I love Apple's products, but why do they struggle so much with the batteries????

After about a year of normal use your laptop essentially becomes a desktop... <1 hour battery life. I cannot believe Apple has not redesigned these yet...

    Worst Battery Ever!!! DEFECTIVE!!!

    • Written by from Saint Louis

I have only had my macbook pro for a little over a year and already this battery will not hold a charge for longer than an hour. My cycle count is only 198 and these batteries are "suppose" to last at least 500 cycles. On top of that the computer will randomly shut off even when the battery says 60% charged. Then when I go to charge it the percent will stay at 0% for thirty minutes or so.

But here is the best part....Apple REFUSES to do anything since I am out of warranty, even though this is clearly a defective battery. Apparently all I can do is buy a new battery for the ridiculous price of $130. In the last 2 years I've bought a $2000 macbook pro, $300 iPhone, and $200 iPod. It's good to know that after spending all that money this is how apple treats its customers.

As much as I love this computer it is rendered almost useless for what I intended to use it for. There is no way I can carry this around campus and expect it to last the whole day with its 50 minute battery life. I might as well have bought a desktop and saved myself $1000 dollars.

This product does not even deserve one star.

    Mine just turned 2

    • Written by from ANASTASIA ISLAND

My Macbook Pro 15" just turned 2 years old and I'm lucky if I can get an hour out of the battery. It stinks that every two years you have to pay this much money to replace the battery! Apple needs to make some kind of new battery that will last longer or lower the price on the replacement batteries since they die so often.

Sad, but it is so true!

    • Written by from Unionville

I have to agree with all the other posts. The battery for the Mac Book Pro is so disappointing. I bought mine in August of 2006 and ever since then, I have had nothing but trouble. It starts out great, giving you a warning when the battery gets low. However, in only about two months, the warnings disappear and it just shuts off without warning. Blackout! I don't know what to do. I don't think it make sense to buy a new one. Apparently, it is a problem with the mechanics of the battery.

    Batteries are No Good

    • Written by from HOUSTON

Like others here, I too had a battery swell and expand. It was less than a year old and a replacement for a battery that stopped holding a charge. Maybe an aftermarket battery is a solution. Took my bad battery to the apple store and was told, after waiting 15 minutes for an appointment, that they could solve my problem by selling me another battery. I never had these problems with my Toshiba laptops.

DO NOT Completely Discharge Li-ion batteries

    • Written by from Boynton Beach

If you want the facts on maintaining a lithium ion battery, simply google "lithium battery best practice". These batteries do not have a memory effect and one of the worst things you can do is to completely discharge them. Keep them topped off. And with any battery, you will only get so many discharge/recharge cycles. Also, never freeze them as this will damage the cells.

    worst battery ever...

    • Written by from Neuchatel

Since decembre 2006, I'm already at my 4th battery. And this is the state of this last one as reported by the system profiler:

    Charge Information:
    Charge remaining (mAh): 2012
    Fully charged: No
    Charging: No
    Full charge capacity (mAh): 2508
    Health Information:
    Cycle count: 417
    Condition: Replace Now
    Battery Installed: Yes
    Amperage (mA): -2035
    Voltage (mV): 11315

"Replace Now" again....what a bad product..

    Piece of junk

    • Written by from Peoria

I'm replacing the 2nd battery on this laptop. The latest lasted 21 cycles. It's outside the 90 day warranty so I'm out another $130. Calibrating did no good, all of the resets did no good. You can't fix garbage. Apple should be ashamed of themselves.

    Super Bad

    • Written by from carlsbad

This battery has a terrible lifespan. Much like the previous generation and the one before that.
Yes, Apple has made the charge longer, by making it 5 hours instead of 3. But it's not normal that after 9 months, a charge that used to last 5 hours only lasts 4, and then, after month 12, 2-3 hours (barely).
Either make a battery that lasts 4-5 hours for 2 years minimum, or stop selling your batteries $129 a pop!!!!!

    Please fix the battery problem

    • Written by from Bedford

I have owned a rev. 1 MacBook Pro for 16 months and am about to buy my third battery. Awesome portable computer, but even with cycling monthly, my first battery lasted about three months before failing; it was replaced under warranty. A year later, battery #2 is lasting less than an hour and causes the MBP to shut down without warning, causing me to lose data. I have owned Apple portables before and have never had such problems with the battery--this is an uncharacteristic failure for Apple. PLEASE FIX IT!!!!

Great Battery (If you change it every month)

    • Written by from Shorewood

I acquired one of the first 15-inch MacBook Pro Core Duos and bought an official battery in the hopes that I could eek a few good years out of it. The battery worked great - for one month. That's right... 30 days and OS X was informing me the battery was dead despite resetting *RAM, etc. I suppose I'm preaching to the choir, but I couldn't resist staying silent on such a poor battery.

This is my second battery I have bought. It has yet to reach 300 cycles and already it is telling me it's running as a "service battery", which means it is running abnormally. I am in college and cannot afford to be spending $123 on a battery that won't last me more than a few months.
Is Apple paying any mind to this matter? This really is an issue that needs to be dealt with, and as you can see, I am not the only one who feels this way.

These batteries are not robust - even when careful about limiting the number of cycles and charging fully, they do not last very long - maybe a year if you are lucky - before they lose their full charge in less than an hour doing simple tasks. I am about to start on my third battery in 3 years and the one in there now can't even hold onto it's dwindling charge long enough to warn me - the computer will just lose power. As part of an otherwise fabulous machine, I am angry I have to buy yet another one of these.
