The battery that came with my Macbook died within two months of using it. After that they sent me a new battery and that one died after 9 months. Because the replacement battery was only under warranty for one month after being replaced so they would not replace a the second lemon they gave me. So before my laptop was even one year old I went through two batteries and now it only works when plugged in. Now if I move too much and the magnetic plug detaches, it shuts off and you loose all the work you were doing. FANTASTIC!!

    Awful Battery

    • Written by from Whittier

This will be my third battery in as many years. Apple did a poor job with these, with the money I've spent I can be looking at a netbook or something. This thing is awful.

These batteries need a lot of improvements

    • Written by from Kailua Kona

I have a Macbook Pro and am getting close to being forced to buy battery #2 in less than 3 years. At the moment the battery has 421 cycles on it but is only reading 50% health. At $129 per battery I find it unacceptable that the battery is 10% of the price of the unit and I have to continue to buy new batteries every 2-3 years. Cut the price or improve the life of these batteries.

Is this really an apple product?

    • Written by from annandale

Well, I had my Macbook Pro for like a year now. Ever since I had an issue with the battery. Like all the negative reviews I read here, I have had the same experiences like those users. Now I am thinking of purchasing a new battery, still they have no improvements or whatsoever?

    Great life.

My battery in my macbook pro 1.85 ghz lasts up to six hours. normal use gets just under 4 and 1/2. Considering that most batteries on the market last up to 3 hrs, this is great. Also the mbp is exponentially faster than its older cousin the powerbook g4, the fact that it has all of the newer features, runs for the same price, and has longer battery life, this is a great deal too!

Gives you an hour and a half of internet time when brand new. Within 6 months, the battery wont even last an hour when fully charged, even when properly cycled.

    SHORT battery life

    • Written by from Green Valley

Can hardly believe that the replacement battery for my 15" MacBook Pro only lasted one year.
The battery that came with the MacBook lasted three years. Why does Apple sell such a POOR product to Apple customers? I notice that I'm not the only one who has complaints about this product.

I have had a Macbook Pro since 2007 and I have gone through 3 batteries. The last one I have purchased as not lasted a full year. I'm to the point where getting a new Macbook Pro or Ipad 2 is a better option that getting another battery. I can never get more than 3 hours per charge, even with dimming my LCD screen on a brand new battery. Horrible!

    batteries dont last

    • Written by from Largo

I've had my laptop since may 2008. I always allow full charge then full drain as recommended. Now my computer will just shut off at anwhere from 20-45% battery life for now apparent reason and wont turn back on until it has been charging for a little while. I would understand if it got to under 15% or if it at least would display the message saying it is about to shut off but it doesnt. it is becoming extremely frustrating especially when in the middle of a report and it shuts off forcing me to startover. I will be getting a replacement aftermarket battery as the factory ones DO NOT LAST.

    Heat destroys your battery

    • Written by from Mainz

I have my third battery in 3 years which is in my opinion average. But I found out what killed off my previous batteries. Bootcamps' drivers provide only poor power management. So the MacBook runs hot pretty soon when I run Windows or games. As the body is made of metal the heat is conducted to the battery. And batteries don't like heat. So if you want your battery to last longer make sure you not only cycle it once per week but avoid processes that heat up you Mac. Or simply take out the battery while you are using power-intensive programs.

Replaced my Macbook Pro battery just 8 months ago and the new one stinks! When I started to type this review it was at 97% life and now it is already at 87% in just about a min. I hate spending $125 for a battery that doesn't last a year. Besides the new macbooks come with a battery that lasts 10 hours? Can't Apple make something for older gen macbook pro's that will at least do half of that? Down to 76% now.

    Battery Explodes

    • Written by from Ellensburg

My battery died a few months back, but I kept it plugged in to keep power as my mac is what I use to make a living. While working, my power cord got unplugged... I plugged it back in, and to my surprise my computer would not boot back up. I turn my computer over, and my battery had EXPLODED!!! It had doubled it's size.. and miraculously at the same exact time my hard drive had failed. Out of warranty and out of luck! After spending the nearly $400 to fix my hard drive I am reluctant to buy a battery for $140.

It's a decent battery with the lifespan of about 1 year +

    • Written by from West Lafayette

This battery would have lasted me longer if I didn't install Snow Leopard on it when it was half charged, beside the point you should cycle your battery at least once a week (I find it best to do it Saturday night, just let the battery drain then plug it in Sunday morning and your good to go.)

If taken care of properly, it can last you a VERY LONG TIME!

    First Apple Disappointment

    • Written by from HIALEAH

The battery has only gone through 91 cycles, and it has failed. The average life should be @ 300 cycles. Almost a year and half old, and Apple will not address due to the one year warranty. This product is quite pricey to only last for this long. Very dissatisfied.

there is no excuse for the horrilble battery life on such a terrific and expensive machine. Apple's culture is based on being a cut above the rest of the industry. If they choose not to solve the problem (which one must conclude from their inaction)....then they should sell replacements for FAR less money. Charging me $130 (+9.25% tax here in TN) per year to own their machine is outlandish!! I look at Apple in a different light than I once did.

    Worst Battery.

    • Written by from Merrimack

I have had this current battery for less then 3 months and now the capacity is down to 30%. There have been less then 60 full cycles and I have followed the manual and the website every time and still the same battery. Very disappointed with this product and refuse to buy anymore.
