    Crummy Battery, Rated a Zero

    • Written by from Bethlehem

My Mac Book Pro battery lasted exactly 13 months. It now shows 96% and will last about 15 minutes, max. For $129.00 I expected more, nice computer, crummy battery.

I only gave this 1 star because you can;t give anything less.
My battery lasts for about 10 minutes.
The cycle count says: 96 And now I have a "Service Battery" message.
These batteries are complete garbage. Apple should give you 2 batteries when you buy a new laptop.

    Please, Apple, fix this!

    • Written by from Francestown

In less than three years I've had three batteries and am having to purchase my fourth. Why can't you make a "smart battery" that cycles itself and doesn't care if it's plugged in or not. Life is too busy for this.

Yes, folks...there is a known issue with MacBook Pro Batteries

    • Written by from Villa Rica

I am amazed with how many people have posted comments saying they don't know what's wrong with those of us who do have problems with our batteries - as if we have done something wrong. FOLKS! There is a KNOWN issue with these batteries. If you have not had issues, be thankful. I am a DJ and this sudden battery death has killed me a few times by the unexpected shut downs. I've been an apple owner for at least 30 yrs, and they DO NEED to reopen the battery exchange. A defect is a defect, and I don't appreciate having to continue to pay for it. The battery is awful!

15 minutes of power after 1.5 years

    • Written by from Ames

I bought my 15" MacBook Pro in March 2008. Since installing Snow Leopard the Menu Bar said "Service Battery". From that point on, the battery life declined steadily. By the time I was able to take it into an Apple Store, the charge time had decreased to just 15 minutes (the computer would die randomly with no warning whatsoever). Despite clear indications of a defective battery, I was not offered a free replacement because it was out of warranty. I hope to have better luck with my new battery, but I am not happy about having to pay $130 for it...

In the interest of fairness, the battery did meet or exceed my expectations until it began to fail. However, I see little excuse for a laptop battery that dies in under two years. I really hope that the integrated batteries Apple currently offers in the MacBook Pro offer a longer lifespan...

    This battery is the worst.

    • Written by from Pepperell

This is the weakest place of the MBP. Dead after only 6 months of work. My Mac goes off without any warning in 2 minutes after switching on. How you guys at Apple could ever produce such worthless thing. MBP itself is cool though.

    One star is generous

    • Written by from Stonington

Fell off the cliff at 18 mo 193 cycles. Capacity down 60% in 3 days. Are these things programmed to self-destruct? Apple needs to reopen their battery exchange program.

(PS - has anyone ever read the terms and conditions for making a comment here? lol)

    Battery death!

    • Written by from Martinez

You'd think, Apple would come up with a better battery for the older MacBook Pros (which technically are not that old - maybe 2 years most) instead they simply come out with a new MacBook Pro. Hey that's all fine and dandy, but some of us college students can't afford the newest. My advise as a Mac lover - DEVELOP A BATTERY THAT WILL LAST LONGER AND NOT DIE. ONE FOR THE MACBOOK PRO 4,1. This current battery I have is a disgrace to all things Mac! Dead on arrival.

Achille's heel of the MacBook Pro

    • Written by from Ottawa

There seems to be something seriously wrong with these MBP batteries. My MBP is nearing the end of its AppleCare coverage and I have been through 3 of those already, all with low cycle counts. (Not that AppleCare helped much as I learned that it covers at most one battery).

I always run with one battery + a spare. In my case, one of them started failing after less than 2 years and less than 200 cycles. Now barely one year later, the second battery (125 cycles) and the replacement for the first (180 cycles) are reporting "Service battery"...

Too bad there doesn't seem to be any software or hardware improvement in the MBP battery management. Apple certainly can do better than that!

This battery doesn't even last a year, or 125 cycles

    • Written by from aurora

I have had two of these batteries, and my macbook pro for 2 and a half years. i am now, unfortunately, about to buy a third. the first one lasted about 95 cycles in about 11 months. by the time i had finally given up on it it was down to about a 5 minute life span. the one in my computer now is about 14 months old with 132 cycles and lasts approximately 35 minutes when it is "fully charged." i noticed decreased battery life starting about 6 months ago. i cycle this battery at least once a week, and i calibrate it at least twice a month. i know apple has since improved their battery tech, but they need a new solution for people with older macbook pros.

As a stockholder, I'm really disappointed and quite frankly embarrassed to own my MacBook Pro anymore. I've gone through two batteries this year alone, and am now having to purchase my third.

I will never buy a mac laptop again.

    Awful battery

    • Written by from Spring

I bought my MacBook Pro in June of 2006, and I am on its third battery...which needs to be replaced, yet again. I cycle the battery as instructed, but it still loses power after a year or so. I've always loved Apple's products, and this MacBook Pro is no exception, but the battery is a major FAIL. I hope the new MacBook Pro batteries are all that they say they are, so new buyers don't have to replace their batteries every year like I do!

    Useless battery

    • Written by from Rochester

Bought my first Mac - Book Pro- ever in early 07. The original battery sustained power for longer than 2 hours. After almost a year it resumed power for no longer than 30 minutes and I received my free replacement battery shortly after. Despite all the calibrations, the replacement battery dies under 5 minutes; practically useless and apparently the extended AppleCare Protection plan does NOT cover the battery.
Very disappointed in the battery ordeal; nonetheless the machine itself is great.

    • Written by from Brooklyn

I bought MacBook Prod 15-inch back in 2006 and since than had to replace 2 batteries.
Basically, the battery doesn't last more than 1 year as it looses 80% of its power. I still love
my mac book pro but battery wise, this is the worst laptop I owned so far.

    Bad battery.

    • Written by from Laramie

I don't expect battery life to be amazing especially when optimal cycling neglected. I do, however, expect that a battery will not bulge and become completely useless over the period of a couple hours. When we spent as much money on a macbook as we did, certain things are expected. Functioning hard drives(crashed and had to be replaced after 1 year) and batteries are two of them.
