I have been using my MBP since 2007 and have loved it! I may have just gotten lucky but I have not had to replace the battery at all until just this month. Its been 6 years!

15" Macbook Pro original battery for laptop purchased in 2007

Just had to jump into this fray on these batteries. I purchased my 15" Macbook Pro in the fall of 2007 and continued to use it non-stop until I purchased the smaller and lighter Macbook Pro 13" in August 2011. The original 15" battery was still giving me about 30 minutes of work time until early 2012 (it has since died completely), providing me with about 5 years of continuous use. I am now about to purchase a new battery for my 15". I will review it again after I see how the new 15" battery performs. PS--both computer and battery survived having a small chandelier fall on it from a ceiling weakened by too much rain! MAC's really are "built tough"!

Used it for several years! Still works perfect! Don't know what the issue is with these batteries maybe I just got lucky. Good part is if the battery breaks you can take it to the Apple store so I don't see the big deal here.

Got 4 Great Years From Original Battery

In fact, I'm still using the original battery, which has gone from supplying 4+ hours of use down to an hour and a half. Why am I replacing it? Other than the Service Battery message it displays, it has been dying without warning at around the 30% level.

It has far exceeded my expectations. The only thing I can guess about those complaining of short battery life is that they primarily use their MacBook Pro while plugged into the AC outlet. I plug mine in only to charge and 90% of my use is battery only. I only hope my second battery is equally as reliable!

I got my 15" MacBook Pro in mid-2010 and have gone through cycles, leaving me at 67-68% battery health. I am very pleased with the performance of the battery considering the large amount of use I get out of it.

It definitely is important to know how to take care of your batteries in regards to running it down and things like that. (FYI: my system is noting that I should "Replace Soon," but nothing has gone wrong with the battery, and I will be holding off before purchasing a new battery as a back up.

    Cycle the battery!

I have gotten over 600 cycles out of my battery and although it needs to be replaced now, it still lasts for about 45 minutes. I've had my battery for over 3 years (I can't remember exactly, I just know the warranty on my pro is over) and I cycled the battery faithfully at least once a week (usually more often) and when I saw the health declining at one point I even brought it back up by making sure to do more full cycles rather than partly draining/charging it. These batteries are ridiculously awesome if you take care of them.

MacBook Pro Battery went dead so I took it to the Apple Store. They tested it and determined that I didn't last as long as it should have so they gave me a new one. Free of charge. This was a year and a half ago,

For all those reading bad reviews

Look people, if you have a 15 inch Macbook Pro like I have, you came to this page and see a sea of bad reviews from people who have batteries die after a few months. Here's my deal. I, like many "five-star raters" here have owned a Mac for 5 years and my battery has lasted that long only to recently show signs of dying. I have 61 cycles left on my old battery and it still lasts 3 hours if I let it drain close to 10%. This is while running graphic design programs, internet, and communicating with fellow workers. My point is if you have a 15 inch you have no choice, you either buy from Apple or a cruddy one from Amazon or eBay and end up with a meltdown. Price wasn't an issue for me, I like a product sold by people I know will let me return it if there is any problem, fast shipping, and patient customer support. So do not be put off by bad ratings, I can't tell you those individuals mistreated their batteries, and I don't know what I'm doing right, but I can assure you as someone who used to hate Macs, I trust this product.

Long Life Battery, If We Don't Abuse It

    • Written by from Stamford

I purchased this battery like a month ago. The Apple Store Sales & Customers Service, gave me some very good few tips not to abuse the battery, "Do not overnight charge the battery" So it would give a long battery life. If it's getting hot, we will have to purchase protective case and a fan to avoid always getting hot and make sure, we gotta have a time limit to use our laptop. So we can avoid those problems. Those are sold separately and optional. But it is absolutely worth them to buy for the benefit of our laptop.

I hope this is a helpful tips.

    Replacement

    • Written by from McFarland

36 of 68 people found this useful

After 5 years I finally need a new battery. Very impressed with the overall battery life on my mac. For those who have had battery failures so soon are more than likely using there battery wrong. You SHOULDN'T ever run your computer while it is plugged into AC power while the battery is in the computer. This will kill a battery in no time. Take the battery out and charge it after you shut the computer down. It will still run on AC power with no battery in.

    Great Battery

I don't know what everyone is complaining about. I bought my 15 inch macbook pro in the late summer of 07, and i'm still running the original battery. yes, it holds significantly less charge than it did when i got it, but i'm just now looking into getting a new one. I use my macbook for my graphic design classes, so i'm constantly on it. I have had no issues with "swelling" or my computer shutting off randomly. It had a normal life cycle, slowing holding less charge as it got older. It gets hot, but what computer doesn't? All in all, very satisfied with the product. I'll be buying my next one straight from apple.
