I've had good luck with my rechargeable battery after initial batter was replaced ( battery recall) over 5 years ago. Apple sent my current battery (at no charge of course) and in less than 24hrs - it's worked rather well.

About 2 years of service for the original battery. Little low considering most batteries get a 1000 cycles before they are toast. My LG laptop got 3 years, but considering i use my macbook 5 times for every time i use my LG its understandable.

Would have thought i'd see longer life span or a recondition feature for the battery for ease of maintaining its life. About the cost of a battery id expect maybe be nice to see it for 100$.

I have a Macbook Pro 4,1 and at 37 months old, my battery still has 86% capacity after 120 load cycles. I generally use it plugged in, but it lasts a few hours still if I keep the screen illumination down

    Battery life not so bad!

We've had our MacBook Pro for about 3 years now and are still on the original battery! We are about to replace it as we only get about one hour of life from it now, but 3 years is not so bad. We just wish they weren't so expensive. We do cycle our battery and use the computer frequently - 3 family members use it daily.

    Decent Battery Performance

I've used two batteries since I got this computer new because I've done lots of traveling and I always have to keep a charged-up spare handy just in case. One of the two is starting to get a little weak now that it has around 70 cycles on it. Doesn't seem like that much of a surprise to me. It still works, but it just doesn't hold the kind of charge that it did when it was new, so it's time for a new one. For the most part, I've found that the battery would last longer than I could keep awake on an airplane - so if the airline breaks down and coughs up a source of electrical power it just gives you a means of falling asleep to iTunes as you cross the Pacific, which beats having to rely on the airline's tunes every time!

    Nothing bad, nothing great

Have had none of the troubles other users seem to be experiencing. All my Apple batteries have behaved the same way: after about two years of use, I'm down to about 40% of the original capacity. It'd be nice if they held up a little better (i.e. >50% capacity at 2 years), but the performance is still better than many PC batteries out there.

I condition my laptop battery regularly.

My computer is two years old. I bought it refurbished. The battery has 520 !!!!! cycle counts and keeps my computer powered up for two hours or so. Of course it's not 5-6 hours as the new macbook pros but pretty good. It says: 'Replace soon' but it's been saying that since the cycle count reached 450.

I've had my MacBook Pro since February 2007 and I have all the original parts (including the battery). I power cycled as suggested and after almost 4 years, I still have 50% battery life remaining in it. I started with 5-6 hours and I am now down to 1-2 hours usage on it. I'll eventually replace the battery and continue power cycling. My only complaint is the memory within these batteries. I have always found that feature to be a problem in ALL batteries with it. If Apple offered a replacement without that, I'd use it.

I have the original battery in my 2007 MBP with over 500 cycles. It still holds a charge of over two hours fully charged and lasts much longer if I'm only word processing. It appears I got one of the few good batteries.

I bought my mac 2 years ago, and i am satisfied with the battery life. I am still using the same battery now which last for an hour plus if fully charged. My only worry is if i purchase a new battery on line will i be getting the same negative low performance battery? Apple, are you selling us the same product as the original battery, or this is purposely low quality battery so that you can sell more items?

    FOR TRAVELING ITS GREAT

I ONLY USE IT WHEN I TRAVEL BECAUSE I HARDLY CHARGE THE LAPTOP, I CHARGE THE BATTERY AND PASS IT TO IT. SO I RARELY CHARGE MY LAPTOP THE NORMAL WAY BECAUSE LAST TIME, THEY SHUT THE ELECTRICITY AND I HAD TO REBOOT THE WHOLE THING, WITH THIS BATTERY I CAN HAVE IT AS A BACK UP AND NOT WORRY SO MUCH. THIS HAPPENS OFTEN IN EUROPE SO ALWAYS GOOD TO USE IT FOR THAT REASON.

    Batteries Are Tricky.

Originally I was amazed at how expensive these things were from Apple, So I went the cheap route via Offbrand Amazon battery. Only to find out the battery would not charge, without the laptop being tilted, and one day I come home to the battery expanding and leaking. Amazon gave me a refund, But then I still didnt have a battery! So I bit the bullet and went to the apple store and picked up this battery. Works perfectly, after about a wekk I was getting 4-5hrs of life in my 2007 MBP. 4 Months later and no noticeable degration. Mine worked out fine, but there are lots of lemons. At least when you buy it at the store, you can just bring it back and get it replaced. NEVER BUY OFFBRAND!

Finally needs to be replaced after almost 3 years

I bought my macbook pro in the summer of 2007, and now - almost 3 years later - it has started failing me. While I'm not excited about dropping $130 in order to purchase a new one, I do believe that I've gotten my money's worth out of this battery. I think mine lasted quite awhile considering that Apple recommends that this battery be replaced at about 300 cycles. Battery life wasn't the best, but I didn't mind that too much. Not really much to complain about other than that.

I just bought a new battery and decided to try the cycle idea. It works! So far, I get approximately 5 hrs of use. It is NOT false advertising! You just need to follow the suggestion! I am very happy with my purchase.

Having used my laptop daily and quite heavily for the past two years, and haven't had a single problem with the battery life. After a little over an hour of watching movies, it's still got over 50% juice left. Full charge capacity is still at 4251 after 200 cycles, battery's at 75% health according to iStat as well. According to Apple's suggested use/charging policies, I've treated it quite poorly as well. Not sure why so many have had problems.

    Cycle and Airflow

I get very good battery life considering all the work I do on my Macbook Pro. But I DO Cycle my battery once a week, which is letting your battery go down to basically 1 or 2%, and then plugging in your laptop until it is fully charged. This WILL extend the life and use of your battery. I didn't do it with my last Mac and paid the price with more batteries. So far, over a year and this one is working great. BUT one thing is the heat that is generated with the Macs. As great as they are, I had burnt out my memory in my first Powerbook because of the heat. Since then I use a Targus 17 inch cooling pad, and I haven't had a problem since. You've got to keep your computer as cool as possible. So Cycle and keep cool... you'll be happy!

    Misunderstandings about battery life

    • Written by from Oak Creek

It seems most of these reviews are useless. It really depends on charge cycles. The analogy I'd use is it's like tires. If you put 80,000 miles on your car in one year do you complain your tires didn't last more than a year? No you just buy new tires. Same thing with batteries. If you go through 300-400 charge cycles in a year of course your battery isn't going to last long.

    Expesive, but works well

I am happy with my purchase - I had to order a battery after my original laptop battery hit 300 cycles (1 1/2 years) and it's life did not last long. I ordered a new one because I am a student and I need my MBP to be portable.

I would say that this battery is as good as the other battery, IF you properly take care of it. It's not just about the cycling. DON'T leave your power cord plugged in when your laptop is off and it's fully charged! Only when you're actually working on it. That will just ruin your battery.

After 1 1/2 years of cycling almost every day or a few times a week, and never leaving the power cord in when it's not needed, my battery was still at about 4 hours, even with the Internet, but diminished after it's 300th cycle.

Testing out this product, I am happy with it, but wish that we could get an 8-hour battery for our older MBP's. Mine replacement is lasting me 4-5 hours using the Internet and adjusting settings for better battery usage.
