Great product - lost a 2 stars due to battery only.

I have three issues with users being responsible to use their batteries. I am pretty mad as to how it is working now. I have changed my usage patterns recently only to discover that my Macbook Pro is pretty much useless as a traveling system. Originally I travelled with it frequently - but for about 9 months it has been used as a 'workstation', recently that changed again and now I am trying to be portable with it- and have had a nasty shock - down to less than an hour usage just doing typing.

1. If there are issues with batteries decaying why are they now 'built in'. Terrible design discussion to make them look nice but not at all functional - unless the design was/is bulletproof.

2. Why does the hardware/system not automatically discharge the batteries periodically if it has ben tethered in to maintain a proper working battery- this could easily be a system setting that happens overnight etc. with a suspend feature so that it does not happen in inconvenient times. It is inconceivable that Apple does not have this in the system - it is like having a card that does not bother to have an oil warning light for the engine or maybe more appropriate a gas gauge.

3. Huge warning labels on the packaging about this issue. I did not realize it to be a problem as I had replace a macbook that this did not seem to be an issue with (and one that at least I could get a battery replaced easily). I just opened it up and got using it - just like in the ads. My fault I suppose for not fully ready about the battery.

Other than that a great laptop but a very glaring problem for something that is portable. Apple products should not have this issue by now.

You'd think that with such a great computer the battery would be better than it is. I've bought 2 within a year and a half. The last one only lasted a few months. This is a serious issue and Apple needs to do better by it's customers, especially if they are exclusive in what they make. I nam disappointed.

Used to brag about my 15" Mac Book Pro battery life. Bought new December 2008. After 3.5 years charge would last less than an hour. Just replaced with a new OEM replacement battery and it also depletes very rapidly. I don't know why this would happen.

I purchased my macbook pro in 2007, original battery worked for 3 years. Since then, I am buying a new battery every 11m regardless of the care to use as instructed!! The battery stops suddenly (the current one I have dropped this week from 73% capacity to 16%!) and now refusing to charge).

It is not only annoying and expensive for an under-perfoming battery. It is also hard to purchase a battery for the older models out of the US!! Apple should definitely invest more in its hardware's performance and availability!

Just had to jump into this fray on these batteries. I purchased my 15" Macbook Pro in the fall of 2007 and continued to use it non-stop until I purchased the smaller and lighter Macbook Pro 13" in August 2011. The original 15" battery was still giving me about 30 minutes of work time until early 2012 (it has since died completely), providing me with about 5 years of continuous use. I am now about to purchase a new battery for my 15". I will review it again after I see how the new 15" battery performs. PS--both computer and battery survived having a small chandelier fall on it from a ceiling weakened by too much rain! MAC's really are "built tough"!

Used it for several years! Still works perfect! Don't know what the issue is with these batteries maybe I just got lucky. Good part is if the battery breaks you can take it to the Apple store so I don't see the big deal here.

I am still on my original battery and it works fabulously still. This is by far the best computer I have ever owned. It still runs like the day I bought it...... if I neede to replace the battery I would order this one for sure, right now I am going to hold off..... :)

I got my 15" MacBook Pro in mid-2010 and have gone through cycles, leaving me at 67-68% battery health. I am very pleased with the performance of the battery considering the large amount of use I get out of it.

It definitely is important to know how to take care of your batteries in regards to running it down and things like that. (FYI: my system is noting that I should "Replace Soon," but nothing has gone wrong with the battery, and I will be holding off before purchasing a new battery as a back up.

Let me start with I am totally happy with my MacBook Pro. My only issue is the short life span of the battery. The original battery had a fair life span, but the replacement only lasted 7-8 months. Now I am back having to by another battery.

I love mac products. I love my mac book pro, my imac, apple tv, iphone, ipad 2. I hate this battery! My third one has died after about 13 months of use. Apple refuses to accept that there is a serious issue going on here. Last time I was told to purchase a new charger and I did to no avail. Money down the drain. I hate to pour more money into this, but I need my laptop back, which has been a desktop the last couple of months. This product is not consistent with the high quality I have come to expect from Apple.
