I replaced my original battery for my MacBook Pro (purchased August 2007) this past December (2010). It has recently stopped working (after 7 months!) and I was told it has no sort of warranty or replacement. It went from near perfect health (I barely use my computer any more) to dead as a doornail. Needless to say, I'm not pleased.

Who the heck cares if you have an amazing product if there is no decent battery to make running the sucker possible?! A brand new battery, at $129.00 smackeroos, should last more than a few months! I don't have tons of money to toss around at random and spent an awful lot of time saving up for my dream laptop. The laptop works great-but only as a desktop. After battery #2, I give up and flat out cannot afford more batteries for this computer. This battery is not up to the standards I expect from a Mac. I sincerely hope that Apple will release an updated battery or updated software to make it work.

    MacBook Pro 15" 5,4

I have not even reached a 250 cycle count and the battery will no longer charge.

That's quite pathetic really. We have old Toshiba laptops at the office that are many years old and the batteries still hold their charge

Within 2 years my hard drive failed and my battery is done. Seriously?? When you spend $2,400.00 on a laptop you hope to at least get a couple years out of it before it starts failing.

I love the Mac OS but the hardware is nothing short of garbage now. Apple, what happened?

Wow, this battery is my second and I must say I am disappointed. It's just over a year old and now if I am not paying attention my computer will shut off with no warning of low battery. I still have an old g4 laptop with the original battery that works like a charm. What happened to the quality? at 129$ i expect a little better performance than one year. If I could give 0 stars I would.

This should have been recalled. I'm on my third one. They don't last more than a couple months. I fully drain and charge at least a couple times a month and I hardly run on just battery alone, but they just don't work. I don't really know what the point of writing a review is, because there is no other choice of battery to buy. Love all mac product, but these batteries should've been scrapped in the beginning. I give this 0 stars, but in order to post this they make you click at least 1 star.

This battery lasted not even year for me. The warranty on it is for 90 days... just another way for apple to take money from you every year. So much for customer satisfaction.

I had bought a replacement battery after my first one just started to lose power suddenly without going into sleep mode and after about a year a few months (just out of warranty of course) the same thing happened. These batteries seem to die fast.

    Defective product

Second battery here, same as first, useless after a few months. This new battery bulged so much it does not physically fit in my laptop. I spent a lot of time with Apple customer support on this and always get the same answer: "The bulge is a security feature, we advise you to buy a new battery". He he, funny. Sure I want to get burned a 3rd time...

Apple, you consistently get one star review from real users on this because we cannot give it a 0. Fix your defective products.

    battery & charger...

dissapointed with apple's products life, ... and i very much like them, but the fact that it seems that they're made to last only 3 years, and just after passing that 3 years barrier they start to fail in every possible way is quite disappointing. the charger stopped doing its job just 2 weeks ago and i had to buy a new one, and not even a week after, the battery is dying! and is not like they're cheap to replace....
it makes me think if i'd buy a new macbook pro when i replace this one or get an equally powerful computer for half the price... :(

stone dead in less than 6 months

My battery completely died in less than 6 months of minimal use and TLC in a clean, cool environment. It was stone dead - wouldn't charge. I can see no reason for that failure. At least Apple replaced it without question under warranty. The new battery is working fine so it wasn't the computer.

I'm on day 100 of this battery I bought at an apple store in Jan 2011. It's already at 74% health after 75 cycles. (they claim 300 cycles before it's at 80%) It is also already shutting off the computer with no warning when it gets to 20% charge. What a joke.

It is better to save $100+ and contribute them towards buying a new Mac instead of buying this replacement battery.
I was fed up with the 1st one (it wouldn't last more than 1 hour) so I bought a second one.
I did all by the book to ensure I maximize its duration. Still after a week it is depleted in about 2 hours.

2007 MacBookPro - Battery Replace Year Ago- Service Battery Prompt Now

    • Written by from ROCHESTER

34 of 39 people found this useful

I have had my MacBookPro for four years and have had to replace the battery twice, I now have the service battery prompt again on the year old battery. I am definitely not impressed. I no longer have the Apple Care Protection, that expired last March after I replaced the battery and had to take the laptop to genius bar because of boot error issues. Apparently this $2000.00 model of the MacBookPro has had a lot of failings. I may have been sold a lemon form the start. First battery replacement was about year after I bought it brand new (bad Sony battery then)

I purchased a new iMac this last March and like it, I am considering a new laptop around August, I really don't think I will go with another MacBookPro, I may go with HP, at least the battery lasted longer then a year. Thing that seriously worries me is if there is battery issues in the new ones, I believe they are built-in in the new MacBookPro's, so it isn't a simple replace...so my impression on this laptop is one star at this point.

    Battery? over and over again

I have had 2 replacements so far. Now my 3rd battery won't hold a charge past 20-30 min. max. I calibrated etc. no luck. Now, my Apple Care is expired, so I must pay for it on my own. I think when you purchase a laptop the battery should last at least 2-3 years. Replacing it every year is awful and costly. Apple should fix this. I would much rather spend my money on a new computer vs a new battery every 11 or 12 months. System says Battery Condition: Check Battery and said yesterday my capacity was 4000+, today capacity is 3000+. I don't get warnings that the battery is about to die, just a complete shut off.
