    Battery Went Bad

MacBook Pro Battery went dead so I took it to the Apple Store. They tested it and determined that I didn't last as long as it should have so they gave me a new one. Free of charge. This was a year and a half ago,

Great Battery (If you change it every month)

I acquired one of the first 15-inch MacBook Pro Core Duos and bought an official battery in the hopes that I could eek a few good years out of it. The battery worked great - for one month. That's right... 30 days and OS X was informing me the battery was dead despite resetting *RAM, etc. I suppose I'm preaching to the choir, but I couldn't resist staying silent on such a poor battery.

For all those reading bad reviews

Look people, if you have a 15 inch Macbook Pro like I have, you came to this page and see a sea of bad reviews from people who have batteries die after a few months. Here's my deal. I, like many "five-star raters" here have owned a Mac for 5 years and my battery has lasted that long only to recently show signs of dying. I have 61 cycles left on my old battery and it still lasts 3 hours if I let it drain close to 10%. This is while running graphic design programs, internet, and communicating with fellow workers. My point is if you have a 15 inch you have no choice, you either buy from Apple or a cruddy one from Amazon or eBay and end up with a meltdown. Price wasn't an issue for me, I like a product sold by people I know will let me return it if there is any problem, fast shipping, and patient customer support. So do not be put off by bad ratings, I can't tell you those individuals mistreated their batteries, and I don't know what I'm doing right, but I can assure you as someone who used to hate Macs, I trust this product.

2nd battery now and this one is having the same issue (not charging) after only 38 cycles. I would say don't buy it but if you need one I am not sure what else you are going to do. Good luck.

Really Upset with Apple - New battery lasted less than one year -zero stars

I'm really upset with Apple and this battery, which seems like it was 'built to fail', requiring people to buy new ones after 6 months to a year.

My battery not only failed completely - no longer powering my 15in MacBook Pro - but it practically 'exploded' on the inside, with two dents pushing outward on both flat sides of the battery pack. It literally pop-ed out of the casing. This is unacceptable, Apple. This needs to be fixed.

Li Batteries have a short life

    • Written by from Hudson

My battery stopped functioning properly after two years. I see a lot of people having problems after one year. Unfortunately this issue isn't unique to Apple products. I've been in the PC support industry for over ten years. I mostly support other brands. A year to two is about what you are going to get from a laptop battery. You may be able to extend that life a bit by performing the proper maintenance on the battery. Before you get upset with Apple for the horrible battery life, look around. You'll see the same complaints on every other manufacturer's forums. It's the nature of today's batteries.

Long Life Battery, If We Don't Abuse It

    • Written by from Stamford

23 of 38 people found this useful

I purchased this battery like a month ago. The Apple Store Sales & Customers Service, gave me some very good few tips not to abuse the battery, "Do not overnight charge the battery" So it would give a long battery life. If it's getting hot, we will have to purchase protective case and a fan to avoid always getting hot and make sure, we gotta have a time limit to use our laptop. So we can avoid those problems. Those are sold separately and optional. But it is absolutely worth them to buy for the benefit of our laptop.

I hope this is a helpful tips.

Whoever battery dies after 1-2 yrs ,you either got a bunk battery or misuse it, Ive had mine for 6 yrs going on 7 stills works fine, the insulation going but still works fine, apple's hardware is impeccable compared to other hardware companies, i should know I work for one of them.

    nothing new to add...

I got better quality life over its relatively short lifespan by power cycling. The first 200 cycles I got fairly decent length of time in-between charges (2+ hours). But streaming or any video-intense apps tend to heat things up, even when I put the laptop on a cool surface. This seems to accelerate the deterioration, which was fast this time around.

Time to get a new one.

Thought of the day: think if car batteries were held to the same industrial standards...

    Really Really Bad

This battery is unacceptable by any standard, especially Apple's. My wife's (older) Macbook has just as many cycles on it and her battery still lasts at least 2 hours on a charge. I would be luckily if I got 15 minutes. I essentially have to keep my computer plugged in if I ever actually want to use it. Needless to say, I would not buy a new one. Looking at 3rd party options now.

15" MBP Battery can't make up its mind

    • Written by from Warner Robins

14 of 21 people found this useful

My MBP battery is at 227 cycles and does (now) still charge to 97% . It did NOT used to do this. It started showing "service battery" AFTER i started cycling it every few weeks per my owners manual and the 40 minute run time was making it about useless as a laptop, HOWEVER since i started using it at home in "clamshell" on my TV, leaving it plugged in all the time and being very careful what’s running when using it on battery it seems to have "fixed" itself. Since i've started leaving it plugged in clamshelled and having it start itself, i never have to open it or touch it so long as it's at home. The battery is now charged to 97% the status page in profiler says charged & "not charging" status is "normal" (note it used to say "service battery") and on the odd occasion i use it as a laptop it seems to go for between 3 & 4 hours? What happened? I have the "usual" dim charger light as well as all the other symptoms everyone seems to complain about, then why is my battery lasting so much longer? To start with delete FLASH, evaluate all non apple apps and look closely at what you have running in the background. then please read the thoughts-on-flash posted by Mr. Jobs. perhaps some of the issues MIGHT be mitigated if people would be more conscious of the processor usage, hard drive status and display brightness. For me anyway turning off/ sleeping unused resources. WiFI & Bluetooth appeared to make a tremendous difference. So much so, that I am no longer considering replacing my battery at 227 cycles especially considering the fact that now it shows as "normal". I can't fully explain it but i'm not one to complain about a happy mystery either. I hope this helps.

DO NOT Completely Discharge Li-ion batteries

    • Written by from Boynton Beach

47 of 56 people found this useful

If you want the facts on maintaining a lithium ion battery, simply google "lithium battery best practice". These batteries do not have a memory effect and one of the worst things you can do is to completely discharge them. Keep them topped off. And with any battery, you will only get so many discharge/recharge cycles. Also, never freeze them as this will damage the cells.

Gives you an hour and a half of internet time when brand new. Within 6 months, the battery wont even last an hour when fully charged, even when properly cycled.

    Short-Lived Battery

    • Written by from WILMETTE

I am on my fourth battery in four years. Fortunately three of those batteries were covered by AppleCare.

Although I often use the notebook with the power adapter plugged in, I do drain the battery at least once a month as recommended by Apple to maintain a healthy battery. What happened most recently is the battery drained completely and now fails to accept a charge. My overall experience is that this battery design and/or the charging system is rubbish.

I've found that I can get the battery cheaper by going to the Genius Bar in an Apple Store. This saved me about 30%.
