    really, really bad battery

    • Written by from Orem

This battery was purchased November 2009 and I've followed the book on cycling and it hasn't helped. The battery only lasts one hour. Let me repeat, one hour of power before needing to plug it in. This is the third battery for this laptop and none of them have lasted. This is the only item made by Apple that I've had problems with.

    This battery is NOT good

    • Written by from Fullerton

My battery says its still has 70% battery health. But it doesnt last longer than 5 mins without being plugged in. I am at a loss for what is happening and the Mac store just blows me off with a reference to getting a new battery. If the battery has 70% health left, it should at least work for 70% of the original charge time right?

    Waste of Money

    • Written by from Newark

After a year, I had to replace my battery. Now after a few months, I will have to replace it again because the replacement will no longer hold a charge. I can't believe a company like Apple, with all their technology, can't figure out how to make a battery with a long life span.

    I like this battery

    • Written by from Northridge

Only reason why I thought I should review this product is because everyone else here is being so negative.

I've had my macbook pro for almost 2.5 years. According to iStat Pro, I've gone through 854 cycles. I still have 40 minutes of charge for video or 2.2 hours of charge for non-intensive stuff, like taking notes, surfing, etc. I love this battery and am sad that I will have to replace it soon.

    Misunderstandings about battery life

    • Written by from Oak Creek

It seems most of these reviews are useless. It really depends on charge cycles. The analogy I'd use is it's like tires. If you put 80,000 miles on your car in one year do you complain your tires didn't last more than a year? No you just buy new tires. Same thing with batteries. If you go through 300-400 charge cycles in a year of course your battery isn't going to last long.

Take Care of your Battery and it will last much longer

    • Written by from Columbia

I have had my MacBook Pro for 3 years with the original battery. I use my computer everyday at my desk and many nights at home. As long as I have owned it, I have made sure to give the battery a full charge and most importantly a full drain at least once a week. I'm also careful not to leave it charging long past it's full capacity.

Last week I was watching a movie in iTunes on an airplane and was able to get 2.5 hours of battery time. Read your directions people. Don't overcharge by leaving the machine plugged in all day or overnight every night. When on battery power make sure you wait until it's about to sleep and then plug it in. My battery is still great even with a cycle count of 524.

    Great!

I've had my laptop for three years, and I have to admit, i treat it horribly (constantly charging it). Yet, despite my horrible treatment of it, it still has a battery life of 45 mins. After 3 years of misuse and mistreatment, it is still powering through. An excellent battery for an excellent laptop!

    Save Your Money

I had purchased the MacBook Pro in December 2008...it is now January 2010 and my battery is near dead. It will not hold a charge past 30 minutes. I too have cycled the battery according to the instructions and have used my laptop responsibly. Funny how a "reliable and respectable" computer manufacturer's battery does not last past a year. Never had this problem on other laptops I have owned.

    Cannot Recommend

    • Written by from Lake Forest

How can I recommend this battery? I have had the battery that came with my Macbook Pro for only a year, and the battery is already giving me an alert that it needs to be replaced. The laptop does not hold nearly the charge it did when it was new, maybe 40% of its initial capacity. I do not subject the battery to inordinate stress, and I cycle it regularly. I use the laptop the way I imagine most users do, and as such, the performance of this battery has been unacceptable. This is simply not worth what Apple is charging for such an inferior product.

    1.5 yrs and dead

    • Written by from Abington

I've owned my 15" MacBook Pro since October 2008. It's cycled only 30 times and I get the "check battery" reminder. Now my MBP will not run without the power adapter. Apples creates awesome products... such a shame they cannot make a battery that has such a poor shelf life. I'm disappointed to put it nicely.

    3 Years later =(

I followed the cycling instructions that came with my computer and the battery is just now needing to be replaced, three years later. =) So not a bad product, just expensive when it needs to be replaced =/

    Apple take responsibility

    • Written by from Abbotsford

The battery that came with my Macbook Pro was fine, and held 3-4 hours of charge until I upgraded to Snow Leopard, now I get 30 minutes max. I refuse to believe that something went wrong overnight the day before I installed Snow Leopard, so Apple needs to do something about this.

    Worst Battery On The Market

    • Written by from Upper Marlboro

This is by far the WORST battery on the market. Has to be replaced at least once a year either due to expansion or failure to hold a charge. Three years, four batteries later. Right now, my fourth battery only holds a full charge for one hour and all I do is surf the web, no heavy duty apps or games. This will be the last one I buy for it. Apple needs to get on it's A game or else I will be moving back into the PC market for my next computer.

    Expesive, but works well

    • Written by from Akron

I am happy with my purchase - I had to order a battery after my original laptop battery hit 300 cycles (1 1/2 years) and it's life did not last long. I ordered a new one because I am a student and I need my MBP to be portable.

I would say that this battery is as good as the other battery, IF you properly take care of it. It's not just about the cycling. DON'T leave your power cord plugged in when your laptop is off and it's fully charged! Only when you're actually working on it. That will just ruin your battery.

After 1 1/2 years of cycling almost every day or a few times a week, and never leaving the power cord in when it's not needed, my battery was still at about 4 hours, even with the Internet, but diminished after it's 300th cycle.

Testing out this product, I am happy with it, but wish that we could get an 8-hour battery for our older MBP's. Mine replacement is lasting me 4-5 hours using the Internet and adjusting settings for better battery usage.

    lame

    • Written by from Denver

I bought a new battery because my 2.5 year old that came with the computer was getting pretty horrible. But this new one is only slightly better than my old one. Should have saved the money and just put it towards buying a new Pro. I wouldn't buy this unless you absolutely have to.

    Awful battery life

    • Written by from Brooklyn

This is my second Mac. I had a Powerbook G4 for 6 years before I had my MacBook Pro, and I NEVER had to replace the battery.
Now with my MBP, which I bought two years ago, I have to replace the battery once a year. Yes, twice so far. My battery will last about an hour if I'm lucky, and it can't be calibrated anymore, so when it says I have an hour left on it, it shuts down without any sort of warning.
Come on, Apple, get your act together.

The batteries from Sony have known issues

    • Written by from hanna

I had a Sony battery in my original 2007 macbook pro and it lasted less than 140 cycles, at which time, the battery held less than half its original charge, so Apple replaced the battery with an even poorer Sony battery that didn't even last 100 cycles. They claimed that the second battery was not part of the faulty batch, and did not acknowledge that this and the original battery were subpar, and not what you'ld expect when you buy a high end laptop. I wouldn't buy a battery from apple again.

Snow Leopard and MacBook Pro batteries

    • Written by from Coppell

I bought two replacement batteries for my 2006 MacBook Pro (week 10). My original battery had a full life, and I was happy to buy a new one. When I upgraded to Snow Leopard, my replacement battery retention took a huge nose dive. Now my replacement battery lasts at most 30 minutes. So I bought a 2nd replacement battery. The 2nd replacement battery performance also took a nose dive, and now it only lasts 45 minutes. I hate to criticize, but I'm out $300 and I can't get 2 hours total time from two new batteries. I'm not a happy camper. I'm sure (I hope) Apple is working to fix this issue.
