I think cycling is the key - Going strong 2 years +

    • Written by from Savoy

We have 2 MacBooks. Mine has lasted over 2 years and still going strong with 2+ hours per cycle. I use the battery more often than leaving it pluged in. I use it until it is almost dead, then plug it in for the charge. My wife did not cycle hers very much at all, and it lasted about 1.5 years and is now completely dead. I figure I have another 6 months to a year left on mine if I continue to use the battery to its fullest. I also use power saving techniques when I want to get more time out of a full charge. I will say this, I would be much happier if the batteries lasted 4-6 hours each charge.

    Some info for future

    • Written by from Newport

Got my MacBookPro on eBay (new). 15.4" 2.16Ghz Core Duo, 1GB single DIMM DDR2, 256GDDR3 ATi x1600, 100GB Seagate 5400rpm HDD. It was manufactured in mid April 2006. The battery model is A1175 and it's serial number is ending with TY4B. Since I realise that the stated battery life is usualy no where close to the real life I had to test it. It works for 1.2 hours when under high pressure (playing games), just under 3 hours watching DVD's, and 3.25 hours is it's max life time. Not that close to 5 hours, uh?

    No problems so far

I have had my MacBook Pro for over three months now and am consistently getting 4.5 hours of battery life from it. Since this is the the time given for this battery I am pleased, but still wish it got a little more. It does seem to go fast on long trips and a back up battery is deffinitely needed.

Im a student, and so I use my laptop frequently for tech classes and notes. So far my laptop has performed amazingly. I've had it for 4 months now with the battery capacity only at 99%. Im still offended by how much a spare battery costs as i am NOT made out of gold (unfortunatly)

I was expecting 2.5 hours of battery life, and with the wifi on, I'm getting 4.5 hours. Thats almost unheard of in the PC world. I was amazed when my Toshiba lasted 3.5 hours. I'm glad I made the switch.

    Good, but no recharging dock..?!

    • Written by from San Francisco

Good battery, enables me to swap in/out when I'm on the road so my computer will run for ~5 hours total.

But I'd like to be able to plug in this battery directly to the wall while using my MacBook wirelessly roaming around my house. That way, I could drop in the recharged battery and keep roaming around without having to tether my MacBook to the wall. Basically I never want to have to plug in my MacBook again - I want to just keep swapping in recharged batteries so I can remain untethered from all electrical outlets.

Unfortunately, this battery does not come with a recharging dock (and there does not appear to be a 3rd party solution available); the only way to recharge this battery is to have it in your MacBook and to have your MacBook plugged into the wall..! Very frustrating! Apple came so close to making this spare battery a truly superb, useful, and liberating product, but they blew it. So it's just 'good' not 'great.'

    Cycle your Battery

    • Written by from los angeles

If you follow the instuctions in the manual, and cycle your battery once a week. You can get about 4 to 5 hrs of battery life out of your mac book pro. i tried cycleing the battery and it really works and restores the batteries life. But the key is you have to do it once a week.

    Not stellar, but not bad

This battery will get 3-4 hours from normal usage (Airport, screen at 75% brightness, doing low-intensity work, no optical drive usage). Much better than my old 12" PowerBook, but definitely not as good as the first reviewer claims.
