    4th battery in 4 years

    • Written by from Victorville

First battery died after a year. Replaced under Applecare. I had about 130 cycles. 2nd battery died another year later with only 44 cycles. Warranty denied since I didn't have the extended Applecare, so had a choice on 90-day warranty for $99 or a standard retail new battery for $129 with a year warranty. This one is dead another year later with about 50 cycles. At least this one will be a warranty. Thankfully I didn't take the offer to save that $30.

They changed their batteries for a reason

    • Written by from Southington

This battery isn't the best, but it sure does work. I have had my 15" macbook pro for over four years and i've only had to replace the battery twice. If that seems like too much, it's not. I'm just pretty demanding from my laptop. My latest battery is at 413 cycles, well over the amount it is rated for, and it still lasts almost 1-2 hours.

My only wish is that they would drop the price, even though 129$ every two years is definitely not the worst. It is much better than buying a new computer every two years.

not too good not too bad

    • Written by from Lewisville

Read on the web these batteries chemistry has an average effective period of ~2 years, and that's exactly when my battery started deteriorating rapidly. it's almost 4 years old now, hold charge for about 5-10 mins. Battery indicator has become useless, the MBP shut down when it shows 60% remaining; plug in the charger and reboot, it then shows 0% and charging.

    Fine while in its prime....

Decent battery for the first 2 or 3 months then its health just tanks despite cycling it. I run my battery down often as well from daily use, and it still has a terrible lifespan.

    3rd Battery in 28 months

    • Written by from SAINT CHARLES

I have owned my MBP for 28 months and am now on my 3rd battery. I've followed all of the instructions on power cycling, trying to keep it cool, etc, but nothing seems to help. I now wish I had bought the 3-year applecare because of how pitiful their batteries are.

    better batteries

    • Written by from Spokane

I have the original battery in my 2007 MBP with over 500 cycles. It still holds a charge of over two hours fully charged and lasts much longer if I'm only word processing. It appears I got one of the few good batteries.

    One of the best Batteries.

    • Written by from Papillion

Lasted over 4 hours when first new.
I use battery power ALL the time.
I stayed above 90% health until around 300 cycles.
Pretty good for a battery that's rated to stay about 80% at 200 cycles.
My battery is 2 years old this month.
Ive got 718 cycles on it and I'm at 63% health.
Ive gotten my fair share of use out of it. I'm extremely happy, I will definitely be buying another!

planning to buy a new battery

    • Written by

I bought my mac 2 years ago, and i am satisfied with the battery life. I am still using the same battery now which last for an hour plus if fully charged. My only worry is if i purchase a new battery on line will i be getting the same negative low performance battery? Apple, are you selling us the same product as the original battery, or this is purposely low quality battery so that you can sell more items?

    Don't waste your money

    • Written by from Spring

I have been through three of these all of them fail well below two hundred cycles two were replaced under warranty including the last one that was covered under the recall and replace with the "new" version. Not sure if it is the battery or the macbook pro or the charger that destroys them but I know from past experience they will not last. This last battery failed after 135 cycles and is no longer under warranty or "recall replacement" seems the people at apple stuck it to me again oh well, next time I'll wait longer to buy and research the web better before making anymore Apple investments I recommend you do the same. PS- I here the new iPhone has a lot of bugs too just fyi.

    Batteries Are Tricky.

    • Written by from Giggitymm

Originally I was amazed at how expensive these things were from Apple, So I went the cheap route via Offbrand Amazon battery. Only to find out the battery would not charge, without the laptop being tilted, and one day I come home to the battery expanding and leaking. Amazon gave me a refund, But then I still didnt have a battery! So I bit the bullet and went to the apple store and picked up this battery. Works perfectly, after about a wekk I was getting 4-5hrs of life in my 2007 MBP. 4 Months later and no noticeable degration. Mine worked out fine, but there are lots of lemons. At least when you buy it at the store, you can just bring it back and get it replaced. NEVER BUY OFFBRAND!

What the heck - battery life?

    • Written by from Deltona

This is my fourth battery! After about 3 months I start to see degradation in the time in will provide power. It gets so bad that I can watch the battery life drain out at rate of about 1 percent every 10-15 seconds. After about 20 minutes - shutdown. What's the purpose of having a laptop if you must stay plugged in? Common Apple, fix this.

I love the computer, but this is my second battery in less than three years. I think Apple gets a very decent price for its product so it should back up its award winning computers and software with a battery that lasts...either that or provide a replacement battery at reasonable price. Enough said.

I replaced my original battery that lasted me 3 years. The replacement battery has only lasted 8 months before laptop shuts down without warning at around 50% charge. Currently using old battery again as it lasts longer than the new one... that can't be right! I am reluctant to buy another battery unless Apple addresses this issue, unfortunately there's no alternative.

Battery went bad in a year

    • Written by from Russellville

I've had my mac for 3 years now. My first battery needed to be replaced in 2 years, which was acceptable because I use it so much for school. I never had any problems with it getting overly hot or with the usage depleting quickly. However, the battery I got last year to replace it just crashed suddenly a couple weeks ago with only 30 cycles. Now That I'm reading all the reviews I'm worried. I have a new one in (free of charge, thanks apple :D.. which is why I gave an extra star). If anyone has any advice on why it might have crashed, please let me know!

battery dies and causes hard crash of my mac with no warning

    • Written by from cambridge

battery is only one year old, but already has lost most of its capacity, and frequently dies without warning (even when the menubar display shows 30% left). "Service Battery" warning is often in the menubar (how does one "service" one of these batteries anyhow??)

Have had three of them in three years. When the thing goes bad it doesnt even warn me anymore, the computer just shuts off. I think it constantly shutting off is destroying my hard drive, my computer runs really slow now and spinrite doesnt work on mac.

    Heat destroys your battery

    • Written by from Mainz

I have my third battery in 3 years which is in my opinion average. But I found out what killed off my previous batteries. Bootcamps' drivers provide only poor power management. So the MacBook runs hot pretty soon when I run Windows or games. As the body is made of metal the heat is conducted to the battery. And batteries don't like heat. So if you want your battery to last longer make sure you not only cycle it once per week but avoid processes that heat up you Mac. Or simply take out the battery while you are using power-intensive programs.
