Need a third battery in 18 months!?!

    • Written by from Vancouver

The Apple battery lasted a year before it just died. I then purchased a Fastmac battery which was supposed to be better and it died within six months - it actually expanded so I took it off and will be shipping it back for a refund. Funnily enough, when I called they were out of stock and offering Apple batteries as a replacement.

So now what? Another Apple battery? What else is there ... This is really the only weakness of my MBP and it's a shame because it is such a brilliant machine. Apple really needs to recall their useless batteries or replace them free of charge. I'm going to take mine in and give it a shot before splurging on another one warranty or no warranty.

mac you really let me down.

6 months after I bought my computer, my charger failed and two months later my battery will not hold a charge. I am not at all impressed with this product and the price to replace the battery is ludicrous. in my opinion, this battery is defective. I used a PC and the battery is still going after 5 years. Apple can do better. If the battery life is not drastically improved, I am going to have to go back to a PC.

Less than 2 years old and mine only lasts 10 minutes. C'mon Steve, I expect more! Notice that the lowest rating is one star so this thing is really scoring at rock bottom, just like the mag safe power adapter.
    I'm a mac user of 24 years.

    Makes a Good Doorstop

The original battery in my 15-inch Macbook Pro was headed into failure mode. It was replaced under Apple's "we won't admit there is problem, but here's a free replacement battery" program. That battery is now down to 85% of its original capacity and it is not reliable. When operating the laptop on battery, it goes from "full" charge down to about 80%, then the laptop shuts off with no warning or alert. Since I need better reliability than that, battery #3 will be purchased (using state funds, since this is a work machine); not the best use of our tight budget money. It would be nice to believe that this new battery will be better, but I'll wait a few months to see what kind of capacity drop-off I get.

2nd battery now and this one is having the same issue (not charging) after only 38 cycles. I would say don't buy it but if you need one I am not sure what else you are going to do. Good luck.

    Defective

    • Written by from Owatonna

A year and a half after I bought my macbook, the battery went bad. It was at 60% original capacity after 156 cycles. They replaced it for free because it had been recalled. The battery they gave me has since done the exact same thing, only it is at 44% capacity in 127 cycles.

Take home message: many of these batteries from Apples manufacturer are defective, just outside of the warranty.

Had 3 of these batteries. 2 bloated and overheated

    • Written by from VICTORIA

This is a classic example of bad manufacturing! 2 of these batteries boated ( like a football) from improper manufacturing! If you have these batteries in your possession I suggest you check the cycle count and check the serial no#.

However, that said. I do like a battery that is serviceable by the user!

I replaced my original battery for my MacBook Pro (purchased August 2007) this past December (2010). It has recently stopped working (after 7 months!) and I was told it has no sort of warranty or replacement. It went from near perfect health (I barely use my computer any more) to dead as a doornail. Needless to say, I'm not pleased.

    Shame shame shame, Apple!!!

    • Written by from Spring Creek

Who the heck cares if you have an amazing product if there is no decent battery to make running the sucker possible?! A brand new battery, at $129.00 smackeroos, should last more than a few months! I don't have tons of money to toss around at random and spent an awful lot of time saving up for my dream laptop. The laptop works great-but only as a desktop. After battery #2, I give up and flat out cannot afford more batteries for this computer. This battery is not up to the standards I expect from a Mac. I sincerely hope that Apple will release an updated battery or updated software to make it work.

battery stops working properly after about a year +/- a few months

    • Written by from BEVERLY HILLS

I had bought a replacement battery after my first one just started to lose power suddenly without going into sleep mode and after about a year a few months (just out of warranty of course) the same thing happened. These batteries seem to die fast.

    battery & charger...

    • Written by from Nashua

dissapointed with apple's products life, ... and i very much like them, but the fact that it seems that they're made to last only 3 years, and just after passing that 3 years barrier they start to fail in every possible way is quite disappointing. the charger stopped doing its job just 2 weeks ago and i had to buy a new one, and not even a week after, the battery is dying! and is not like they're cheap to replace....
it makes me think if i'd buy a new macbook pro when i replace this one or get an equally powerful computer for half the price... :(

stone dead in less than 6 months

    • Written by from Santa Barbara

My battery completely died in less than 6 months of minimal use and TLC in a clean, cool environment. It was stone dead - wouldn't charge. I can see no reason for that failure. At least Apple replaced it without question under warranty. The new battery is working fine so it wasn't the computer.

    Batteries are not very good.

    • Written by from San Diego

I am now on my third battery in so many years. I think it is real stupid that Apple has chosen to make batteries on their new computers built-in. They are so unreliable the computer will be in the shop getting a new battery again and again and again.

    Terrible!!

    • Written by from Terrace

My first battery died shortly before my 1-year warranty had expired. Apple replaced the battery with a new one, but it was reduced to about 2% of its capacity within a few months. Now I'm left with a laptop that will shut down instantly if the power cord is knocked out of place. I spent over $2,000 for a laptop with a battery worth less than the lint in my pocket. Of course, after I had received my second battery my warranty was over and I couldn't get ahold of Apple to see if they would do anything about the second one. My cycle count on the second battery was 57 when it died. I followed all recommended practices for maintaining battery life and even have a new power adapter.

Yes, folks...there is a known issue with MacBook Pro Batteries

    • Written by from Villa Rica

I am amazed with how many people have posted comments saying they don't know what's wrong with those of us who do have problems with our batteries - as if we have done something wrong. FOLKS! There is a KNOWN issue with these batteries. If you have not had issues, be thankful. I am a DJ and this sudden battery death has killed me a few times by the unexpected shut downs. I've been an apple owner for at least 30 yrs, and they DO NEED to reopen the battery exchange. A defect is a defect, and I don't appreciate having to continue to pay for it. The battery is awful!

    Worst battery ever

    • Written by from Tallahassee

I have had my MacBook Pro for 11 months. At first I was so happy with this battery that was supposed to last 3 times a regular one and it did at first (lasted for 4 hours). When I unplugged my Mac I wouldn't plug it again unless the battery was fully discharged to assure battery's life.

Now after 11 months of using it and having really taken care of it doesn't last more than half and hour. I'm pretty upset because my warranty expired last month. Now I have to spend 130 dollars to buy a new one.

    Raw Deal

    • Written by from CLINTON

I have had my Macbook Pro for 1 1/2 years. I only used the battery 14 times, there is a utility that they can use to see how many times the battery has been cycled. I had to use the battery last week and it only gave me 5 minutes of time. I contacted Apple and they had me send it in for a check-up. When i got the laptop back i received a letter stating the 1 year warranty was up and found the battery not defective therefore they did not give me another battery, i also have the apple care coverage. So they told me that 14 cycles is normal usage, the battery was never worked properly. I sure view Apple in a very different light and i'm baffled how 14 cycles is all the battery is supposed to last?

I own my MacBookPro for three and a half years and already replaced once my battery. Now the last one is dead already. there is no other battery that can work with Mac, thus we stuck with their. I would say, don't buy one, but what can you do?
