    A Mediocre Battery

    • Written by from Shelburne

I turn off BlueTooth, Airport, mute the volume, put the screen brightness on one block, and close all applications except my word processor and still only manage a little over two hours. This computer is three and a half months old - 15 inch 2.33 ghz MacBook Pro. I absolutely love it, but when I purchased it I was promised FOUR TO FIVE hours of battery life. With all power saving on, I have never once hit over three.

    battery

    • Written by

I purchased my mac book pro in august of 2006. The battery ran fine until just recently. I went to take my computer off of the charger because I was going to take it to a coffee shop and when I unplugged the power adapter my computer turned off. When I plugged the charger back in I was able to turn the computer back on as normal. When I got to the desktop, the battery metter said it was fully charged but only displayed that the battery had 33% life so I unplugged the charger again and the same thing happened. I can use my computer as normal with the charger plugged in but if I needed to take it any where this would be a big hassel.

    BAD :(

    • Written by from Toronto

my battery has lasted a long time but the life of it is very bad apple says 7 hours of battery life when on the second lowest brightness i can sometimes get a bit more than 2 hours if I'm lucky. but seriously if they expect us to use it on no brightness than they are crazy because it is impossible to see the screen anywhere on earth.

    Not even 120 cycles

    • Written by from Lufkin

I bought my MBpro back in March of '08 and used the thing for word processing, web browsing- that kind of stuff. and after looking at the power tab of the system profiler my battery has 112 cycles. The health says Check Battery.. i can hardly get an hour out of it. I love my mac and the things i can do with it but i'm not too thrilled about the life of the battery.. My old IBM thinkpad from 2001 still rocks a 3 hour battery life with MS 2000 Pro.. anyways that IBM has saved my hide a few times when the macbook needed charging... I'm not happy with this product. I bought into the Mac-thing and I really like the OS, but the hardware is a major step back to what i'm used to.

My Mac pro battery fails after only one year

    • Written by from New York

This is the second time I have to buy a new battery .
They should give some kind of discount on the batteries , they come with a very short life term.

    Poor Battery

    • Written by from Washtucna

So I have had my MBP for about 13 months now and have not really had a problem with the system. The only problem I have had is my battery and my charger. One day I left my charger on my computer and now my charge light stays red, wont turn green when "charged", and stays on after I unplug it from the machine. What is this all about?? Does this have anything to do with my battery life because it is at 13% just after one year of use. Is it worth spending the money to buy a new battery or am I going to be plagued by the same problems. Not impressed!!

    DEAD!

    • Written by from brooklyn

My battery died right around the 12-13 month mark as well. I'm disappointed that it has such a short life, though while it was working, it was great! I could get about three hours without charging, but now I have to replace it.

Very disappointed! (the macbook pro 15" is great though!)

    Power Beast!

    • Written by from San Jose

The macbook pro 1st edition is the one with serious battery issues. The bright LCD screen and 1st-gen dual core intel processors are BEASTS of power consumption. If you have my system, with 2 GB RAM and a 2.1gHz dual core processor, you can expect poor battery life. The newere ones are LCD-backlit and the processors use less power- however this can all be avoided by cycling the battery once a week - draining it until nothing at all will function, then charging it overnight. However, this battery doesn't get good life even for that (down to 20 min after a year) and gets excessively hot.

    not very satisfied.

    • Written by from Cincinnati

okay. i bought my macbook pro for college.
obviously, while i'm in class, it looks rather obnoxious to be plugged into the wall.
so i've been extremely disappointed that the battery life seems to be steadily decreasing.
after reading the review about istat pro causing problems, i removed it, and it has helped, but still, when i got the computer, it had five hour battery life, and i would dare to say it went over that. now the meter says 4 hours every time i unplug, and this soon dwindles down to three, even when the screen is dim it still doesn't have much effect.
i am proud to own an apple, especially when people ask me longingly "so is that the new macbook pro" or something like that, but as far as i am concerned, this computers battery life to this point was certainly not worth shelling out $2k.

apple. please fix this issue, it's pretty sad when the powerbook g3 i gave my little brother to toy with is exceeding the performance of your latest and greatest.

    Laptop battery woes

    • Written by from san mateo

I've used a lot of laptops over the years. Mostly PC laptops but the technology is really the same. Invariably within 2-3 years of use a battery has little useful life left. Strangely my macbook pro battery has lasted under a year and lost over half its capacity. Thankfully it should be within warranty. I suspect these issues are related to the battery source mfg issues (batteries catching fire, etc) from a year and more ago. Hopefully the replacement battery will last longer. I'd highly advise all macbook buyers to check their battery life before the first year is up and ask for a warranty replacement if it has significantly declined.

    Battery issue- response to JW

    • Written by from park City

Below JW bags the rest of us for not using our battery correctly. Maybe he should go to work as a consultant for Apple Customer Service. My battery died 6 months after the purchase of MBP. Old batteries were vulnerable to damage with AC power use. Current batteries are, supposedly, not effected the same way. With out wasting time on battery technology; the reality is that the MAJORITY of 15" MBP users are having problems. If you want to help, tell us what is working for you. If not keep your opinion of the rest of us to yourself. You are in a forum to voice about the product and help others. My battery cover is also bowing out, which is also suggesting over heating. I too have followed every instruction by Apple and the result has been the same. This will be a test of the Apple warranty and customer service in handling the product.

    Not Impressive

    • Written by from Poulsbo

I wasn't enthusiastic when purchasing this battery in the first place based on the reviews. Yet, I was hoping that the one I got would be different. Unfortunately, it was not. Straight from the box, the battery never lasted "3 hours". I haven't been using my computer for anything heavy duty. I usually just surf the web, use word processors, or go on youtube. Still, my batteries charge life is pitiful. I get, maybe, an hour and a half. I've had it a week and already have gone through 11 cycles.

I am not impressed with Apple's product, and am seriously considering sending the battery back for replacement. Not that'll help. For how much I paid for this battery, I really expected much more performance from it.

    this shouldn't be happening

    • Written by

This really is nonsence because I've used a pc for years and haven't had the battery problems that I'm having now. My battery is good for about 30 minutes and then needs to be charged. I've just recently watched a new dell last for about four hours before needing a charge. Not sure of what I have done wrong but for the money spent this shouldn't be happening. I guess caliblating the battery dosn't work so is there somethng else?

I never did the calibration and now my battery pretty much won't work. Only 9 months old. So I'm buying a new one but I am not thrilled.

29 cycles and 88% health after 3 weeks

    • Written by from New York

Sure I use the MBP like crazy (FCP, CS2, BOINC etc) but it has been only 3 weeks and the battery is down to 88% health and holds a charge for less than 2 hours. If this rate keeps up, I'll need to buy another battery sometime Q1 2007.

I am also disappointed with the build quality (crooked keyboard, bent frame). Hmpf.

Way too hot and only lasts for 2.5 hours

    • Written by from FALLS CHURCH

It's too bad that Apple didn't design a battery worthy of the excellent Macbook Pro Laptop. This battery gets hotter than any I have ever used before and only lasts for about 2.5 to 2.75 hours. I have two of them. Wouldn't it be nice if Apple recalled them and replaced them with cooler longer lasting ones?

    MBP Battery

    • Written by from San Dimas

I have had my MBP for about a year. The battery used to work an average of about four to five hours before I had to recharge. Now, it's more like about every two hours. I am also of the opinion that, even though I love my Mac, they should make a more reliable battery, and given that also maybe give customers a break on the cost of replacement.

The only bad part in my MBP... hardly lasts an year

    • Written by from EDISON

I have my MBP for just about 3 years now, and it was reporting that I should replace my second batter now (for about 3 months).... the battery I currently use is just about 1 year old and I really took care of it this time, but regardless, it hardly holds 40 mins of charge anymore.....

Unfortunately, I have to buy it again 'coz I still love my MBP and it is doing great... I really wish I had choice with batteries here...
