    Six months...

    • Written by from BEMIDJI

Had this replacement battery a little over six months and now it will shut down, without warning, at about 30%. This began happening to the original battery as well, although the original seemed to last about a year and a half before becoming erratic.

    Not Real Happy!!

    • Written by from Grand Haven

I have an early-2008 15" MBP. The original battery lasted over 350 cycles, about three years usage for me. I had to replace it in late March of 2011. The $100 replacement battery was completely shot 17 months later after only 82 cycles! Not much bang for the buck!

    Awful product

This battery wont last you long, and the earlier versions would even grow and would not fit your computer anymore. I am ver dissapointed at this product. Not to mention the awful price.

    Defective design

    • Written by from Winter Haven

This battery obviously has a design flaw. Too many of them develop a problem where they just stop putting out power even though they have a substantial amount of charge left. My original was replaced under warranty and now the replacement has developed the same problem. It's worse than a worn out battery that won't hold much of a charge because with those you get a warning before they die. With these the computer just shuts off without warning.

Bad Apple. Bad, bad Apple. Could be worse, though. Could be one of those models where the battery is internal.

I bought my second battery a couple years ago and just found out after 187 cycles that it swelled up and is unusable. Not very good service out of these batteries.

    Poor engineering & design

    • Written by from EDMOND

I purchased my first mac in 2007, a 15" macbook pro. The computer itself has worked fine but the battery for it is a piece of junk. It's been replaced 3 times under applecare for a total of 4, count 'em 4 defective batteries. The last time they had me bring the computer in for repairs but it didn't change anything. Every time when the battery reaches about 100-150 charge cycles the runtime drops to less than half and usually the computer randomly dies when it's supposed to have 15-20 min left. Now my applecare is expired and I have a laptop I cant run on battery for more than 1.5 hours.

    Very poor battery

    • Written by from Brooklyn

Bought my Macbook Pro in 2009 Battery is nearly worthless a few weeks after a year. It lasts 20 minutes then dies so it really only works with a power outlet! Now I learn what a waste of money AppleCare is because "batteries are not covered". Very disappointing to say the least.

Service Battery after SL OS upgrade

    • Written by from Dover

I have a Macbook Pro 15 inch and always have used just one battery and kept the other in reserve for traveling. After SL OS upgrade both batteries report SERVICE BATTERY error and one has 83 cycles and the other only 25. As an Apple fan it makes me wonder if I will every buy another top of the line product from Apple that has such battery issues.

    Very bad, very sad

    • Written by from HAMBURG

I'm having the same problem with the battery (16 months old). System profiler say my battery has 99 cycles and a low charge capacity. There is a worldwide replacement programm (look here under /support/macbook_macbookpro/batteryupdate/) but Apple Germany refuses to accept my battery because it has a serial number that not fits in this program. I think that Apple should admit the problem with the MBP batteries and extend the replacement program to all - otherwise they will probably lose a lot of their customers and the good image.

love my macbook pro, but i recently took a trip. prior to this, i never used the battery too much and would see it do it's charging cycles. i unplugged my computer and packed it up in a padded carrying case. it had a smooth ride on the front seat. 4 hrs later, i plugged the computer back in. to my surprise, the battery icon is now x-ed out. dead. i think that sucks. i only bought this in march.

    Short-Lived

    • Written by from Sellersville

I had the same problem as the other guy. I've had my MBP for about a year now, and the health of the battery is down to 65%, and the computer does not last long without being powered. I have cycled it, like the directions say, and it still has gone downhill. Its a bummer, because the computer is awesome, however the whole point of a laptop is to be able to be on the move, and Apple really dropped the ball here.

Snow Leopard and MacBook Pro batteries

    • Written by from Coppell

I bought two replacement batteries for my 2006 MacBook Pro (week 10). My original battery had a full life, and I was happy to buy a new one. When I upgraded to Snow Leopard, my replacement battery retention took a huge nose dive. Now my replacement battery lasts at most 30 minutes. So I bought a 2nd replacement battery. The 2nd replacement battery performance also took a nose dive, and now it only lasts 45 minutes. I hate to criticize, but I'm out $300 and I can't get 2 hours total time from two new batteries. I'm not a happy camper. I'm sure (I hope) Apple is working to fix this issue.

Really Upset with Apple - New battery lasted less than one year -zero stars

    • Written by from Ballwin

I'm really upset with Apple and this battery, which seems like it was 'built to fail', requiring people to buy new ones after 6 months to a year.

My battery not only failed completely - no longer powering my 15in MacBook Pro - but it practically 'exploded' on the inside, with two dents pushing outward on both flat sides of the battery pack. It literally pop-ed out of the casing. This is unacceptable, Apple. This needs to be fixed.

    A Terrible Product!

    • Written by from Kentwood

This MacBook Pro battery amazes me -- for all the wrong reasons.

I'm amazed that Apple -- in spite of the hundreds of negative reviews and very poor overall rating -- has not seen fit to improve this product. You'd think by now they'd have put more time into it. It's a very, very expensive battery and, yet, it's virtually worthless.

I'm also amazed a product this poor got past Apple QC. It should never have been released in the first place.

I'm about ready to obtain my third battery for my MacBook Pro. The first one had to be replaced, and was covered under warranty. The second one hasn't fared any better. It dies in less than an hour (and heats up like a mama if I use it without a cooling device under it). Now, I need a third battery, which means I'll have to buy this one. At $129, this is a major purchase. But, then again, most of Apple's products are outrageously expensive.

If there was a way NOT to use this battery, I would. But what good is a laptop that I can't use apart from the power chord?

The battery you keep on replacing

    • Written by from West Hurley

The battery I had for my original macbook pro had to be replaced three times due to use. Each replacement occurred after under a year. Thankfully two were covered under applecare. This battery is a nightmare as it effectively turns your laptop into a desktop with no warning. I've tried all the tips and tricks but had to keep replacing. Eventually I just bought a macbook and haven't looked back.
