Battery of MacBook Pro and G4

    • Written by from Santa Barbara

I have had good luck with the batteries of the MacBook Pro 2.33 Gz and the 12 inch G4. In both instances the computers can run off their batteries for 3 hours.

FWIW, the computers when used on batteries have their screen illumination reduced--about 25% from the maximum, the battery icon is set to Better Energy Savings, and when the computer is operated off the transformer, it is placed on a pad that has two cooling fans. In comparison to my Toshibas, the Macs have had superior battery life and the batteries longevity was superior.

Great, But could definently be better

    • Written by from Kingston

Im a student, and so I use my laptop frequently for tech classes and notes. So far my laptop has performed amazingly. I've had it for 4 months now with the battery capacity only at 99%. Im still offended by how much a spare battery costs as i am NOT made out of gold (unfortunatly)

    No Complaints

    • Written by from KIRTLAND

I have a macbook pro 15" early 2008. My original battery finally died after 6 years. I can honestly say that I probably abused the battery by using it mostly plugged in and from what I have been reading about battery care and proper cycling, it should have died long ago. Reading all of the complaints is definitely making me wonder how long a new one will last. It does run hot.

Replacing battery after 6 years of nonstop use!

    • Written by from Dawsonville

After six years of use with not one problem, my MacBook Pro finally died. Local Apple store says my battery is dead and that even with the Mac plugged into the wall the computer will likely continue to die on me. Doesn't make sense to me and I've taken the battery out and the computer seems to be working fine. Trying to decide if I should buy a new battery if it continues to work plugged in? If I get another six years out of it, then it's worth the $129 it will cost.

    FOR TRAVELING ITS GREAT

    • Written by from FLUSHING

I ONLY USE IT WHEN I TRAVEL BECAUSE I HARDLY CHARGE THE LAPTOP, I CHARGE THE BATTERY AND PASS IT TO IT. SO I RARELY CHARGE MY LAPTOP THE NORMAL WAY BECAUSE LAST TIME, THEY SHUT THE ELECTRICITY AND I HAD TO REBOOT THE WHOLE THING, WITH THIS BATTERY I CAN HAVE IT AS A BACK UP AND NOT WORRY SO MUCH. THIS HAPPENS OFTEN IN EUROPE SO ALWAYS GOOD TO USE IT FOR THAT REASON.

    IMHO

    • Written by from Titusville

I do believe this is a good battery, I have mine now two years, with 384 cycles and it holds out for 57 minutes now with the screen on full brightness. It's done me proud and I'm only replacing it now as I need to travel and use it on the go.

    Nothing bad, nothing great

    • Written by from Fort Lauderdale

Have had none of the troubles other users seem to be experiencing. All my Apple batteries have behaved the same way: after about two years of use, I'm down to about 40% of the original capacity. It'd be nice if they held up a little better (i.e. >50% capacity at 2 years), but the performance is still better than many PC batteries out there.

I condition my laptop battery regularly.

    East Bound and down...still truckin'

    • Written by from Indianapolis

I have an mbp that I bought in July of '07. My battery has been through a lot of abuse and has run over 500 cycles. Unfortunately, the batter life was so spectacular when I first got it that it never crossed my mind to 'reset' or cycle my battery once a week (or month for that matter). I was STILL getting 3.5 hours out of it running resource hogs! I must say, that as long as I'm not taxing resources too much (lower brightness, quit un-needed applications, keyboard illum, etc.), that I STILL get 2 hours out of this battery.

That being said, I'm going to do better to cycle my battery from now on. At $129, it does make better sense to stroke your battery just right but, that's an awful lot for a replacement.

All-in-all, I get compliments all the time on my battery life.

"You can have my mbp when you pry it from my cold, dead hands." — Me

Cycle it - and get the extended warranty

    • Written by from Colorado Springs

IF you cycle the battery like most of the positive reviews say, and buy the machine warranty (which paid for itself with two calls), it works fine. The report of a battery going from 60% to zero sounds like battery abuse or a faulty battery. The only rap I can lay on Apple here is the short original warranty period.

Not sure what the fuss is...

    • Written by from Henderson

My Macbook Pro is 16 months old and the battery is still working fairly well. I have not had any premature shutoff problems but I do see that my battery is hardly holding a charge now. Hey, I think 16 months is not bad for a battery especially since I've only conditioned it once....

    Decent Battery Performance

    • Written by from Issaquah

I've used two batteries since I got this computer new because I've done lots of traveling and I always have to keep a charged-up spare handy just in case. One of the two is starting to get a little weak now that it has around 70 cycles on it. Doesn't seem like that much of a surprise to me. It still works, but it just doesn't hold the kind of charge that it did when it was new, so it's time for a new one. For the most part, I've found that the battery would last longer than I could keep awake on an airplane - so if the airline breaks down and coughs up a source of electrical power it just gives you a means of falling asleep to iTunes as you cross the Pacific, which beats having to rely on the airline's tunes every time!

    Decent battery

    • Written by from Longview

I have had this battery for just about three years. I still get 3 hours of life out of it. My battery is at 129 cycles right now so admittedly is isn't heavily used but I don't pay any special attention to cycling it once a week or storing it in any special way, and it is one of the first generation batteries / macbook pros. Don't expect 5 hours of battery life.

    Wonderful battery!

    • Written by from Mississauga

This is a great product from a great company. Like all batteries, it loses its life as time goes on, but unlike most batteries, its replacement cost is somewhat reasonable. I have had my MacBook Pro for almost a year, and the battery health displays as 90%, however I get much better performance from it than that. Sometimes my computer will display the charged icon, but the light on the power adapter and the lights on the battery display a charging status. Overall, this is a normal laptop battery that offers normal performance!

    All these negative vibes...

    • Written by from Clonskeagh

The re-chargeable battery degrades over time. I don't see what everyone is complaining about. As stated by apple, it is designed to still hold 80% of it's original capacity after 300 cycles. If you go much over 300 cycles, you'll need to replace your battery to keep a decent charge.

Get the best battery - this one lasts decades

    • Written by from Houston

This battery works awesomely when new.

But really, for 100% charge/usage potential, a person could theoretically switch to the (x) battery, from the manufaturer (x), which is world reknown for absolutely flawless performance even after a decade of continuous harsh usage conditions. I want people to know this, as it relates to LiON performance.

I've had my 15" MBP since July 07' and my battery last at least 1 hr & 45 min. I have 68 cycles on it and it shows 97% health. I couldn't be happier. The previous time was including watching an 1 hr & 28 min movie. I guess I got a good battery???????

Holy cow you people are cry babies. I bet 90% of you are constantly using this device with all the bells and whistles turned on. I've replaced mine once in 3 years and will probably bite the bullet and do it again. If you want a long lasting battery , buy some POS PC.

    Not Bad

    • Written by from Eagan

This has been a great battery for me so far. I purchased my MacBook Pro about 2 months ago and the battery has been great!!! I've gotten at least 3.5-4 hours of battery life. I use my computer a lot at school and I havent had trouble at all. I've gone through about 24 cycles on my battery already and in my opinion that is WAY too many! Just cycle your battery once or twice a week and you will be just fine.

    Why all the complaints?

    • Written by from Salt Lake City

My Mac Book Pro is well over a year old and as a pilot, I regularly use it at airports and hotels running on battery power only. As of this writing, my battery is 215 cycles with 60% health remaining. I can speak from experience that PC's get nothing near this kind of battery life. I have been very impressed with my battery and my Mac Book Pro and would recommend them to anyone.

    A pretty decent battery

    • Written by from Pittsburgh

I've had my MBP for about a year and half now and this battery still has over 80% capacity, and usually 3-4 hours of life. My previous laptop was a Dell Inspiron and the battery on that was all but dead by 18 months.

I can't say this battery is ideal, but it certainly has performed well and given the technology used is about as good as you're going to get for the cost. I know some people have had some bad experiences from bad batches of batteries, but all in all I'm quite satisfied.
