    2 Years and Counting

    • Written by from Bloomington

I have been on the same battery for over two years. It is on 356 cycles with 30% life left. I haven't really done anything special to keep it from dying. Nowadays, I always have to plug it in when I take it places, otherwise it will die in about 30 minutes. I supposed that could be a problem for some people, but what do you expect from a battery that is over 2 years old. Keep in mind that I am a web designer and that my macbook pro and charger have seen many many coffee shops. Overall, I am very pleased with the battery and charger.

Worked fine for me until I installed Windows 7

    • Written by from Vancouver

I am not sure why so many people are complaining about this battery. I had mine for three years and it worked great. Then, I installed Windows 7 on my Macbook Pro, and that, for some unknown reason, fried the battery. Afterwards, I could only get 30 minutes out of it (before I played around with Windows 7, the battery had 1.5 hours of life in it). So a word of caution... Don't install Windows on your Mac notebooks!

    I like this battery

    • Written by from Northridge

Only reason why I thought I should review this product is because everyone else here is being so negative.

I've had my macbook pro for almost 2.5 years. According to iStat Pro, I've gone through 854 cycles. I still have 40 minutes of charge for video or 2.2 hours of charge for non-intensive stuff, like taking notes, surfing, etc. I love this battery and am sad that I will have to replace it soon.

Take Care of your Battery and it will last much longer

    • Written by from Columbia

I have had my MacBook Pro for 3 years with the original battery. I use my computer everyday at my desk and many nights at home. As long as I have owned it, I have made sure to give the battery a full charge and most importantly a full drain at least once a week. I'm also careful not to leave it charging long past it's full capacity.

Last week I was watching a movie in iTunes on an airplane and was able to get 2.5 hours of battery time. Read your directions people. Don't overcharge by leaving the machine plugged in all day or overnight every night. When on battery power make sure you wait until it's about to sleep and then plug it in. My battery is still great even with a cycle count of 524.

I've had my laptop for three years, and I have to admit, i treat it horribly (constantly charging it). Yet, despite my horrible treatment of it, it still has a battery life of 45 mins. After 3 years of misuse and mistreatment, it is still powering through. An excellent battery for an excellent laptop!

    Good Product

    • Written by from SPRINGFIELD

I am surprised by all of the negative reviews on this product. After 2yrs & 528 cycles my battery still has 75% or better. I am on my computer several hours a day for school and personal use and have never had an issue. As for the price, this site is not the only place you can buy this battery but even so the price is comparable.

    Servicing Battery

    • Written by from Lompoc

The other week my Macbook Pro battery put up a message that it needed to be serviced and would only hold a charge for like 40 minutes.. So I took it off the charger and let the battery cycle for like 4 times and the battery is back! And the message went away too! So moral of the story is cycle it!

    MacBook Pro Battery Life

    • Written by from Glendale

Unlike many of the reviews I've just read, I've had my MacBook Pro for almost 3 years and am on the original battery. I still get just under 2 hours of use. I probably don't use my laptop as much as a college student or someone that uses their laptop as their primary computer as I have two iMac's that I use at home almost exclusively. But I use my laptop when I travel which is often and am on it a great deal. I would not trade my Mac for any other brand of laptop out there and I've had a few. This is the best.

    College on 1 Battery!!!

    • Written by from Valencia

I've had my computer for almost four years and am still on my first battery. I'm at 460 cycles and %38. It lasts about an hour so I'm on the look out for a new battery sooner than later but it exceeded my expectations. Shoot, I had to replace the hard drive before I replaced the battery.

great product- lasts forever (400+ cycles at least)

    • Written by from North Kingstown

this is a great battery. i dont know what you guys are saying. the whole "unibody" battery deal is that the average battery lasts 300 cycles, and then it needs to be replaced. i am at 400 cycles and battery is still 95% healthy (according istat pro). i can easily get 3-4 hours of battery life under OSX (windows isn't so great, usually about 2 hours). The only thing I don't like about the battery is the cost. eventually, I will have to buy a new one, and I would rather not shell out $129 for one. typical apple-battery costs a ton, but is great in the long run.

Most of the people who write bad stuff about this battery don't take good care of them (either cause they can't be bothered or they just don't know.) I've had mine since 2007 and it still works perfectly, not one single problem.

Does NOT need to be cycled.

    • Written by from American Fork

Don't take my word for it—look it up.

The nickel-based batteries that used to be used for most devices, like the ones commonly still used in wireless phones, need to be cycled to stay healthy (fully drained and fully charged regularly), as any RadioShack employee will tell you. BUT these MacBook Pro batteries are Lithium-based and cycling has no effect on them.

You get a fixed amount of use out of Lithium-based batteries like this one so draining the battery just for the sake of draining the battery is actually shortening the life of the battery.

The best way to extend the life of the battery is to only use power when you need it. Don't drain your battery unnecessarily. Don't leave you're laptop awake when not using it. Don't run a million things at once on your computer unless you need to. If you feel your laptop getting hot, that means your usage is high and you are using up your battery faster too. If you can conserve energy, you are also conserving the life of your battery.

I've been very happy with this battery.

    Love it now!

    • Written by from Metamora

The battery in my Macbook Pro was exhausted quickly because I did not cycle the battery properly, leaving the power adapter plugged into my computer most of the time. I ordered a new Macbook Pro battery, it was in my computer within 3 days and now my computer is back to operating without the power adapter for a solid 2-3 hours like normal. The battery was no hassle to select or order, and I now love having the freedom of no cord! The battery operates properly when you cycle it, so do not leave it plugged into your power adapter!

    4.5-6hrs of battery life

    • Written by from LONG BEACH

These batteries last well & work as advertised. Just remember it's a laptop battery, so it needs to be fully charged & fully drained on a semi-regular basis ('cycled') to provide good long term results. Otherwise you'll quickly destroy their ability to hold a charge. I use the iStatNano dashboard widget to monitor them; helps a lot.

Not as bad as most people say

    • Written by from Pilesgrove

When I first bought my macbook pro i could get about 5 hours of life out of this battery. Now I've had it for a year and 4 months and I can get about 2 hours of life out of the battery. Not too bad in my opinion, especially since I didn't always cycle it once a week like I should have. For the first year that I had my macbook I could get on average about 4 hours of life, it wasn't until recently that it started going downhill. If I had cycled it once a week every week I'm sure my battery life would be much better now.

Solid Battery if You Use it Correctly

    • Written by from Gig Harbor

I've had my macbook pro for just over a year and the battery is still holding up fine, lasting over 2 or 3 hours, depending on what I'm doing.

These batteries work in life cycles--which means don't charge it to 30%, then unplug it, then charge it back to 80%, or leave it plugged in all the time. This information was in the manual when I bought the macbook, and the battery is lasting much longer than my old computer, which I left plugged in all the time. Now that I've learned to cycle the battery, I'm very satisfied with its performance.

A useful free application that will help you check your batter life is called Coconut Battery. It tells you the current charge of your battery, the number of charge cycles you've done, and the percentage of the original capacity that remains--which will remain high if cycled correctly.
