    MacPro Battery

    • Written by from College Station

I've had two batteries go bad (not the charge holding per se, but just plain quit working properly). Definitely sub-par relative to the quality expected of most Apple products and most MacPro components. For the price, they should be better (or replaced for free).

    Sudden Death

    • Written by from Tucson

Spent hours trying to figure out what I had done wrong-----turns out this is common. I am shocked that Apple can't provide a battery that lasts more than a year. Of course I will go buy another, what other choice do I have? This has made a black smudge in Apple's permanent record book if you ask me.

    MacBook Pro 15" Dead Battery

    • Written by from East Norriton

Like many others on this post, my battery died after 14 months. Compared to others I shouldn't complain but I will anyway. Apple you need to fix this problem! This issue is driving many of your best and most loyal customers crazy.

    Is there anything better?!

    • Written by from Brooklyn

I've had my MacBook Pro for 6 months, and when it was new never gave me more than 2:45 to three hours of battery life (using battery life saving settings!)...now it just shots down even when it says there's an hour of power....sometimes it says something rediculous like there's 130 hours of power and two minutes later I have no power what so ever.

Battery for 15" MacBook Pro 2008

My original battery gave up the ghost after a year but more importantly it appeared to happen after I'd installed Snow Leopard.

The replacement from this site is now running down v quickly as well but not as before which was almost immediately, but I'm only getting 3-4 hours from light web browsing/email usage.

If I knew about the battery in the 2008 MBP range I wouldn't have bought it.

    Poor lifespan

    • Written by from La Jolla

After only 80 cycles in about 15 months, my original battery holds only about two minutes of charge. It's out of warranty, but this kind of lifespan seems like a manufacturing defect. Still, what can you do?

Good life at the beginning, quick downturn

    • Written by from Blacksburg

I loved this battery for the first 4 or 5 months I owned my macbook pro, however if you do not cycle this thing religiously it will lose it's ability to hold a charge within days of noticing a downturn in life.

Mine lasted 8 months before it would no longer hold a charge.

    Only good for a year

    • Written by from Hutto

Bought my Macbook Pro in Oct 2008. Original battery only lasted about a year before the random power-off's at >50% charge and the "check battery" status. I suffered with needing to be close to a power outlet for a year before deciding to buy another battery in Oct 2010. Well, here it's Oct 2011 and the same thing is happening. I have 154 cycles and the health is at 36% with the "check battery". These batteries only seem to be good for about a year before needing replaced.

Decent battery for the first 2 or 3 months then its health just tanks despite cycling it. I run my battery down often as well from daily use, and it still has a terrible lifespan.

    Disposable rechargeable?

    • Written by from Wesley Chapel

My MBP is three years old and this is the third battery I've had to buy, despite doing all the "battery maintenance" things you are supposed to do. They work fine, until they die, and then I have to buy a new one. I've taken the previous two in for service and the answer has been "yup, this battery is busted, sorry you need a new one." For the price, they should be better quality.

    Short Life

    • Written by from Houston

About to go to the apple store to buy my third battery... Within 4 or 5 months, the battery capacity drops to about 60% and the charge won't make it through one 60 minute class... disappointing considering the high price.

    very disappointed

    • Written by from Washington

although im very content with the computer, the battery has been a very disappointing experience. After six months of use, it never gave me more than 2 hours of battery life and now its swollen up and completely dead. More disappointing is that it does not qualify for repalcement, so its $120 bucks out of my pocket.

    Cool at first...

Everyone that I have talked too says they get about 3 plus hours with this. I usually come around that rounded number as well, but I have to set it on better bat. life and reduce the brightness tremendously. Don't get me wrong, I love having this awesome mobile machine, but one day it started to swell. Literally, the lining on the battery is bulging, for no apparent reason, and now it shuts off by itself even sometimes when it’s at an 80 percentile. I have to plug it in to keep it working! Apparently to the review sight, this has happened to others as well.

    I don't get it.

Battery Life (Addition to Previous Review)

    • Written by from Columbus

Also wanted to state that the battery runs very hot. If I am working on it as it sits on my lap, I cannot do so for long. It does not create a burn mark, it does however cause heat welts if working for long periods of time. This makes it necessary to have a table or other to sit the laptop on when using which makes it very inconvenient most times.

To recap my prior review, this is my 2 purchase of a battery in less than 2 years. While i have had my computer for 3 years, the first battery did fine for 2 years.... So, in the 3 years of having my laptop, I have gone through 3 batteries as my battery indicator is now showing "Condition: Replace Now".

3rd year on my MB Pro and will soon be on my 4th battery

    • Written by from Austin

I have owned Macs for 20 years now and the battery life on this powerbook is horrible.
I let the batteries completely drain and fully charge back up. The battery information shows I'm less than 1/2 way on my cycles, but am now getting about 15 minutes battery life and then suddenly powering off. The battery I'm currently using was purchased directly from Apple, and is about 9 months old.

Almost makes me not want to invest in my next Mac upgrade.

    Battery needs work

    • Written by from onset

I have been a MAC advocate since my first MAC 512 and have sung Apple's praises even during the hard times. However, I am less than satisfied with the performance of the battery in my Mac Book Pro. After a year of use, I am buying a new one as my original is sinking fast. What a shame such a great notebook has such a terrible battery. Apple can do better than this... and should

    Not impressed...

    • Written by from Tulsa

Basically my battery has a maximum life of 5 minutes now. I did not cycle it often so it's probably a result of my careless use, however, after having to leave my magsafe constantly plugged in, its plastic melted at the connection and now I have to purchase two extra items.

Both matters should be addressed for a firm who take pride in their design expertise.

My advice, if the battery loses its functionality, replace it immediately and start cycling that thing before your magsafe melts!

    • Written by from Mount Vernon

I'm losing about 0.17% design capacity per cycle: I'm at 4652 mHh out of a design capacity of 5500 mHA in 89 cycles. It seems to me this is a pretty quick depletion of battery potential.

Battery went bad in a year

    • Written by from Russellville

I've had my mac for 3 years now. My first battery needed to be replaced in 2 years, which was acceptable because I use it so much for school. I never had any problems with it getting overly hot or with the usage depleting quickly. However, the battery I got last year to replace it just crashed suddenly a couple weeks ago with only 30 cycles. Now That I'm reading all the reviews I'm worried. I have a new one in (free of charge, thanks apple :D.. which is why I gave an extra star). If anyone has any advice on why it might have crashed, please let me know!
