    This battery is the worst.

    • Written by from Pepperell

This is the weakest place of the MBP. Dead after only 6 months of work. My Mac goes off without any warning in 2 minutes after switching on. How you guys at Apple could ever produce such worthless thing. MBP itself is cool though.

    Disappointing

    • Written by from Atlanta

Battery lasted 18 months and dead. My first Mac and but have had laptops for years. Never had to replace a battery. Apple should be ashamed of the profit on this $129 bucks. Happy to pay a premium for quality but this falls short.

    bad battery

I baught a macbook pro about a year and a half ago, this battery gets to 40% and the computer dies hard. It appears i will be forced to buy a new one. The best thing would be for it to catch on fire so we all can get QUALITY replacements.

    Only bad thing about apple

    • Written by from Champaign

I have a 15-inch MacBook Pro and I absolutely love it. And I have several other Apple products and I have no qualms about them either. However, I must say that Apple does not know how to make a battery. I have had my computer for just over a year and whenever I unplug my computer now, 90% of the time I get a maximum of 30 minutes out of it. And that is after it says it is fully charged. When it is at it's max unplugged I only get about an hour. A few times I can unplug it and it immediately goes blank and won't open the screen until it is plugged back in as if it is dead. I have been very disappointed.

I'm having the same problem. Battery might last 10minutes if anything. I've had my macpro for 2 years. Hoping apple will cover it under the extended protection plan? But then I heard it's not covered....apple should def do a recall or something...

    I love my battery.

    • Written by from Redmond

    Google "lithium ion battery care."
I've had my battery for over a year and it still keeps 3+ hours worth of life. I think the main thing is to not keep the battery in the computer if you are going to keep the computer plugged in. That's just like constantly discharging and charging the battery. It is kind of annoying if the plug gets knocked out, but at least I have the battery life when I need it. Sometimes, if I plug the computer back in fast enough, when I turn it back on it will have everything still open.

    Defective product

    • Written by from Montreal

Second battery here, same as first, useless after a few months. This new battery bulged so much it does not physically fit in my laptop. I spent a lot of time with Apple customer support on this and always get the same answer: "The bulge is a security feature, we advise you to buy a new battery". He he, funny. Sure I want to get burned a 3rd time...

Apple, you consistently get one star review from real users on this because we cannot give it a 0. Fix your defective products.

    100 days.

    • Written by from Toluca Lake

I'm on day 100 of this battery I bought at an apple store in Jan 2011. It's already at 74% health after 75 cycles. (they claim 300 cycles before it's at 80%) It is also already shutting off the computer with no warning when it gets to 20% charge. What a joke.

    Terrible

    • Written by from Tulsa

I got this battery about 8 months ago, and its starting to give out on me. Waste of $140 IMHO. Apple should be more willing to put a half way decent battery in their machines at that price.

68 cycle loads, battery was cycled about every 2 weeks, and coconut battery is showing 77% of original capacity.

2nd battery dead within one year

    • Written by from Waterville

When the original battery that came with my Early 2008 Macbook Pro started to fail, I took it to an Apple Store and they verified that it only had 70% health after 60 cycles. That was about one year after I bought my Macbook Pro so I got a new replacement battery for free.
My new battery, however, started to die (again) and now it is only registering 70% health after 80 cycles. I am getting the infamous "service battery" that many Snow Leopard owners are experiencing even though I am 100% certain that I followed all the proper battery care and calibration procedures recommended by Apple.
My conclusion: these batteries, which are supposed to retain 80%+ health after 300+ cycles do not perform as intended and they are not worth my $110!!!!!!

    Please, Apple, fix this!

    • Written by from Francestown

In less than three years I've had three batteries and am having to purchase my fourth. Why can't you make a "smart battery" that cycles itself and doesn't care if it's plugged in or not. Life is too busy for this.

    Consistently Poor Life

    • Written by from El Paso

I have had 3 of these batteries (you think I would learn my lesson!) and each has lasted less than a year. The battery reaches a point where it no longer holds a charge. Looks like I'll be getting my 4th. What a pain!

    Battery finally died

    • Written by from Grass Valley

I just read all the reviews because I have to buy a new battery for my MacPro. I bought my laptop back in 2006 and it just died. I think it's lasted a long time. My only problem with the battery is I think it gets extremely hot. My husband's PC doesn't get hot at all but his laptop doesn't hold a candle to mine. I hope Apple can fix figure out how to cool down the battery.

6% battery life left within 160 cycles!

    • Written by from Edmonton

My battery life is dropped to ONLY 6% of maximum battery life within only 160 cycles, in less than 2 years!! This is far from their promise of at least 50% battery life within 300 cycles! What happened to apple's quality?!!

    Bad Battery

    • Written by from Lincoln

I bought my MCP in February of 2006 right when it first came out. My third battery just quit on me about a week ago. The first one swelled up really bad but it was within the first year so they replaced it free. The second one they replaced as well because it was a defective battery, I think there was actually a recall about that time. I dont know why these batteries dont last long, even if you abused a battery and didn't do anything to prolong the life of it, it should still last a year before it completely shuts down.

Need a third battery in 18 months!?!

    • Written by from Vancouver

The Apple battery lasted a year before it just died. I then purchased a Fastmac battery which was supposed to be better and it died within six months - it actually expanded so I took it off and will be shipping it back for a refund. Funnily enough, when I called they were out of stock and offering Apple batteries as a replacement.

So now what? Another Apple battery? What else is there ... This is really the only weakness of my MBP and it's a shame because it is such a brilliant machine. Apple really needs to recall their useless batteries or replace them free of charge. I'm going to take mine in and give it a shot before splurging on another one warranty or no warranty.

mac you really let me down.

    • Written by from Bainbridge Island

6 months after I bought my computer, my charger failed and two months later my battery will not hold a charge. I am not at all impressed with this product and the price to replace the battery is ludicrous. in my opinion, this battery is defective. I used a PC and the battery is still going after 5 years. Apple can do better. If the battery life is not drastically improved, I am going to have to go back to a PC.
