    Awful battery life

    • Written by from Brooklyn

This is my second Mac. I had a Powerbook G4 for 6 years before I had my MacBook Pro, and I NEVER had to replace the battery.
Now with my MBP, which I bought two years ago, I have to replace the battery once a year. Yes, twice so far. My battery will last about an hour if I'm lucky, and it can't be calibrated anymore, so when it says I have an hour left on it, it shuts down without any sort of warning.
Come on, Apple, get your act together.

    Just plain embarrassing

    • Written by from Los Angeles

A square log in the world of wheels!

Heat, battery life and other unexplained disasters. Anyone leaving a good review for this thing is a shill for the company. But who cares, right? Now they're selling a newer, better things... So forget the rest of us, right Steve?

I've gone through three of these overpriced paperweights trying to escape the slippery slope of unwelcome shutdowns and desperate searches for the closest electrical socket.

One positive. Mine didn't explode on me.

My wife and I both own MacBook Pro. Her battery started going bad so I knew I may need a new battery soon too. I bought 2 new batteries and they were fine for about 30 days. Then I noticed that one battery began to swell. I took it out of the computer in hopes to have it repaired, if possible. I put in the second replacement and the same thing happened! Then they both busted open! The cases are cracked all the way down the side! No way they are usable now! VERY DISAPPOINTED! Hope some changes are in the future for Apple concerning batteries...

    Terrible Battery

    • Written by from COLUMBIA

It is beyond me why a product as good as the MacBook Pro would have a power supply that only lasts a very few minutes after being cycled and properly charged. I get less than an hour from a properly prepared battery. My wife can seemingly go all day on her Dell and then she will get a fair warning to recharge. I just get a dark screen without warning. Apple needs to address and correct this brand changing product.

Batteries not good enough for heavy usage

    • Written by from Orange Park

I have a first generation 15" MacBook Pro. I bought it in February 2006. I replaced the battery in September 2007. It would not hold the charge for more than a few minutes sometimes and just shut off at random. The screen would flicker, too, and often go nearly black.

Here I am today, about order a battery. This will be the third battery in 3 years.

I do own a web application that just launched, so the last few years it has had very heavy usage, daily.

I'm not happy about the battery purchase and they need find a better solution. Of course, although their MacBook batteries are not that great, Apple is wonderful overall and I will purchase the battery.

Even if you cycle the battery religiously, as I did for a year, the battery is still likely to fail. Mine conveniently died a few weeks after warranty.

    Very Disappointed in the Battery!!!!

    • Written by from San Antonio

I got my MacBook Pro last year in August and I was so happy with it. But as the months went on by I n noticed that the battery would not last no more than 10 mins or less, and I was doing what it said to do once a week so your battery would last longer. It did not work on me. And just today which is Oct. 28, 2008 my MacBook Pro dies the minute the power adapter is plugged off. The last laptop I had lasted me for 6 years before the battery died. I would think that since I paid more for the MacBook Pro, I would get a better deal out of it, but I was wrong.

Will never buy anything apple again!!!

    • Written by from Winnipeg

My laptop started shutting down without warning while on battery. I have had this computer for a year and two months, and certainly this started happening right after my warranty expired. A rep at Apple said that they cannot help as my warranty has expired and have to go help myself! I have tried everything like resetting SMC, calibrating battery, etc. I had a cheap dell for 5 years and never had a problem, and I have an expensive Mac that is worthless in a year.

    The Magic 13-month Battery!

    • Written by from Sandy

With only 31 Load Cycles (about twice a month it was cycled) it went from 5 hours capacity to 45minute capacity one week after the warranty.

That's right folks, as soon as the warranty was out! No 'slowly' losing capacity, it went from 5600mah to 827mah within a week.

Buy this battery if you like surprises (not necessarily the good kind) and if you expect better quality from a laptop that isn't what anyone would call "cheap".

It's not the cost of a new battery that bugs me, it's the ethics of it all. Month 12, battery works 100%. Month 13, battery works 14%.

Oh, and yes I calibrated it. It would just die at 61% (30 minutes remaining) - now that i calibrated it, it knows it only has an hour or less.

Time remaining on battery with 2.0 vs 2.16ghz and warping of battery

    • Written by from Anchorage

I had read numerous revies saying you could get up to 4 to 4.5 hours of battery life with this. So purchsed a Macbook pro for my wife. With her computer we were only getting at most 3.25 hours of life per charge. I couldn't figure it out and was slightly frustrated with that.

We were very happy with the laptop though so decided to purchase me one. We got the baseline model for me and whala figured out the difference that was being stated here in the reviews. She had the 2.16Ghz 15" Macbook Pro, and I purchased the 2.0 Ghz Macbook pro and bam I get the full 4 to 4.5 hours stated.

Could it be the difference in the battery? Could be, we havn't switched the batteries to see if it still held true but bet your money that it would hold true.

Now to the warping of the battery. Havn't had that problem but willing to speculate that its because the laptops get really hot if laid on a flat surface weather a table top or bed.

With this in mind I think I will purchase either a platform or some type of cooling device for under the laptops. Yes it makes them tougher for portablitiy if you took that everywhere. So proably will just use these things when at home.

I do believe though this will prevent the battery from warping from the heat, if this is truely the reason they are warping. Some type of energy has to be making them warp and this is proably it.

It is truely a great computer though!!!! :O)

    Battery Went Bad

    • Written by from Zeeland

MacBook Pro Battery went dead so I took it to the Apple Store. They tested it and determined that I didn't last as long as it should have so they gave me a new one. Free of charge. This was a year and a half ago,

Li Batteries have a short life

    • Written by from Hudson

My battery stopped functioning properly after two years. I see a lot of people having problems after one year. Unfortunately this issue isn't unique to Apple products. I've been in the PC support industry for over ten years. I mostly support other brands. A year to two is about what you are going to get from a laptop battery. You may be able to extend that life a bit by performing the proper maintenance on the battery. Before you get upset with Apple for the horrible battery life, look around. You'll see the same complaints on every other manufacturer's forums. It's the nature of today's batteries.

    Battery MISSLEADING info

    • Written by from Bayside

The MACBOOK PRO battery is simply USELESS, unless you plan to use your laptop plugged into the wall outlet AT ALL TIMES, by another laptop or get another extra battery every 6 months!
Unfortunately APPLE has not yet realized that their batteries are simply unacceptable.

    Bad Battery...Bad

    • Written by from new york

Wow, this battery is my second and I must say I am disappointed. It's just over a year old and now if I am not paying attention my computer will shut off with no warning of low battery. I still have an old g4 laptop with the original battery that works like a charm. What happened to the quality? at 129$ i expect a little better performance than one year. If I could give 0 stars I would.

    Low Battery Life

    • Written by from Kenosha

As with other MAC users, I would have to say that the Achilles Heel to the MacBookPro is the battery. I am on my second one and, even though I followed the tips to extend life of the batter, alas it is already dead after 75 cycles. It is only one-year old.

Do you think anyone from Apple is reading our comments. Doubt it as they have not addressed this problem at least for the older models.

Thank goodness I just bought a new MacBookPro 13" before going abroad where Apple products are tres, tres expensive.

    Apple take responsibility

    • Written by from Abbotsford

The battery that came with my Macbook Pro was fine, and held 3-4 hours of charge until I upgraded to Snow Leopard, now I get 30 minutes max. I refuse to believe that something went wrong overnight the day before I installed Snow Leopard, so Apple needs to do something about this.

    Worst Battery On The Market

    • Written by from Upper Marlboro

This is by far the WORST battery on the market. Has to be replaced at least once a year either due to expansion or failure to hold a charge. Three years, four batteries later. Right now, my fourth battery only holds a full charge for one hour and all I do is surf the web, no heavy duty apps or games. This will be the last one I buy for it. Apple needs to get on it's A game or else I will be moving back into the PC market for my next computer.

15 minutes of power after 1.5 years

    • Written by from Ames

I bought my 15" MacBook Pro in March 2008. Since installing Snow Leopard the Menu Bar said "Service Battery". From that point on, the battery life declined steadily. By the time I was able to take it into an Apple Store, the charge time had decreased to just 15 minutes (the computer would die randomly with no warning whatsoever). Despite clear indications of a defective battery, I was not offered a free replacement because it was out of warranty. I hope to have better luck with my new battery, but I am not happy about having to pay $130 for it...

In the interest of fairness, the battery did meet or exceed my expectations until it began to fail. However, I see little excuse for a laptop battery that dies in under two years. I really hope that the integrated batteries Apple currently offers in the MacBook Pro offer a longer lifespan...
