Why do Apple batteries create a confined negative pressure?

    • Written by from Pickerington

A "confined negative pressure" is what happens with a straw, but Apple's forum police will remove that word... Regardless, I'm am buying battery number three or four for my MBP. I can see replacing batteries as they are pretty much a consumable. But when the battery kills itself so it won't even hold a charge long enough to replace the power cord that you accidentally pulled out, something is wrong. And the replacement battery is $129, give us a break. Either make the battery worth $129 or drop the price.

Hey Apple!! You build the BEST laptops, but your Batteries... Not so much!

    • Written by from GLOUCESTER

You would think that in this day and age, where we can send rovers to Mars that last months on their batteries, that APPLE could find someone that has a battery that will last more than FOUR hours!!! Come on Apple... Kick your design engineers in their butts, and tell them to give your customers the best battery for a laptop on the market!!!

Enough is enough already, the technology for batteries is out there, don't make us send you links to them!!

    Over priced, for little life.

    • Written by from Orlando

I'm disappointed at the price of the replacement battery. I have done the cycling that is recommend for the battery ( fully charged, let it run till dead).Apple should address the issue that loyal customers should get a newer style battery, that hold longer charge. I'd be fine paying for a battery that will work longer in the day.

    Only lasted 4 months

    • Written by from hayfork

Over the years I have bought several $130 batteries for my 2007 macbook pro. Normally each one only lasts a year or less and NEVER holds a charge for more than 2 hours, even with minimal use. My most recently purchased battery only lasted 4 MONTHS before it would no longer hold a charge and informed me that it needs to be replaced!!! How long will it take apple to make a decent battery? They probably already have the technology for it but like to take advantage of us more than once a year for another $130.

    A junk

I have purchased a replaced battery for my Macbook Pro 2009. The Apple battery lasted one month and just exploded. This is a very defective item and I will not buy another replacement. The Apple battery for MacBook Pro does not deserve any star.

    horrible reliability

    • Written by from Oakland

I bought a replacement battery 6 months ago and it is already dead. Makes my 15" Mackbook Pro unusable as a laptop. Went to the Apple store and they told me that the warranty on a replacement battery was only 90days!! I should have read the forums before and saved myself a trip. Did not realize that batteries too were designed with the planned obsolescence philosophy. Very unhappy customer.

    Dead in under 6 Months

    • Written by

This battery completely died in less than 6 months. It won't even power the laptop while the charger is plugged in. Make sure you buy these straight from Apple or a vendor with a 1 year+ warranty.

    Short Lifetime

Love my MacBook Pro, but not this battery. I've had my computer for a few years now and had to replace the original battery a little while back, no big deal, but than the Apple replacement I ordered just stopped charging. After only 89 cycles. I've seen laptop batteries last for over 600 cycles before, but not this one.

    Yet another pathetic Mac battery.

    • Written by from Austin

Doesn't charge. Had a few months. Last few batteries just didn't hold a charge for long. Now I get to waste more of my time and, likely, money. Thank you, Apple, for your continued focus on excellence.

    Awful battery life

The battery life on my MacBook Pro is hideous. After 3 years, when at 100% charge I might get 30-45 mins out of it.

    Battery exploded

    • Written by from Hamilton

This was a replacement battery on a 2006 15 inch MacBook Pro. The battery lost its ability to charge after about three years, and then one day it overheated and the insides expanded, giving it a stylish, exploded look. It is probably a good idea to replace these batteries after three years as this does seem to pose a hazard. I am not sure if they have addressed this battery's shortcomings in replacement batteries they are currently selling.

    By far the best battery

    • Written by from Aurora

I have a mid 2010 MBP and till today I used 779 cycles out of my battery and it still has 83% life in it. I could still charge 5725mAH out of 6900mAH(Initail health). It still gives me about 3.5 hours of video on a single charge. I believe no other battery is as good as this one.

Learn How Batteries Work People! Good Battery.

    • Written by from Wilmette

People, you need to realize that batteries in all consumer devices are expected to last for around two years under normal usage, especially with laptops. I look at all of the reviews here and complaining that the battery in a couple of months, that is understandable, but when you guys say that it died after two or three years, it's expected life span no less, and you give it one star because it died, you are underrating a fairly solid product. I've gone through two batteries and my MacBook Pro is about five and a half years old, two batteries is understandable, they both lasted a bit over two years, I'm fine with that.

Four stars because it's not perfect, since the exposed plastic panel on the bottom is coming off and has been for a while.

Poor Quality: Expect to buy a new battery again soon.

Replacing battery after 6 years of nonstop use!

    • Written by from Dawsonville

After six years of use with not one problem, my MacBook Pro finally died. Local Apple store says my battery is dead and that even with the Mac plugged into the wall the computer will likely continue to die on me. Doesn't make sense to me and I've taken the battery out and the computer seems to be working fine. Trying to decide if I should buy a new battery if it continues to work plugged in? If I get another six years out of it, then it's worth the $129 it will cost.

The quality is not consistent with the price

    • Written by from San Francisco

Like many others, I was unimpressed and disappointed by the life and performance of this battery. It not only died after two years, but also never seemed to hold a charge for very long while it was still working. I would be more inclined to blame myself because I don't use that MacBook Pro very often, but after seeing similar reports in the review section, I suspect that the battery itself is probably defective too. I did not cycle the battery often, but I did cycle it, and I think my limited use of the computer should have *increased* the life of the battery instead of the other way around.

I realize that all batteries degrade with time, but for $129, I expect a little bit more.

I'm on my 3rd battery in 6 yrs. I don't stream videos or music on my mac and I can't imagine what I could be doing to wreck my battery. I finally broke down and bought a battery for much cheaper somewhere else... For the price I expect the battery to last! If the cheap one breaks on me after a year or two, I won't mind BECAUSE IT'S CHEAP

my macbook pro is 7 yrs old and I've never had a problem w/ it, battery aside.

    Apple battery strength

    • Written by from New York

    Battery weakness

Review, I admit perhaps a bit misplaced, but related, as why a battery replacement is necessary so soon.

Here is my beef plain and simple. Not a great experience with Apple products. Old school somewhat. Held onto my 3GS perhaps too long, but even so, the last 6 months, battery was dead. D E A D. One of my coworkers actually had a 3G and it still worked fine. No battery issues with his phone. Go figure.

Bought a Mini MAC (really not used that much so it seems OK) and a 15" Laptop.

Hit by hurricane Sandy and lost power. Long story short:

Laptop was unplugged. Power restored. Plugged it in and received "replace battery".

Can't easily replace. So now I have to pat 130.00 +. for a new one and install, It seems even Even Apple must acknowledges an issue as they are starting to sell these (replacement) batteries) on line when they previously did not.

Took my MAC to the Apple store and diagnosed as (oh yeah guess what) battery dead.- why would a fully charged maintained fairly new batter completely die?

Segway - the same day after power was restored after hurricane Sandy, I plugged in my PC laptop and it lit up and has worked great ever since. as my Apple MAC laptop did not.
