Paired up with the Apple USB Power Adaptor This Could Be Something.

I was ordering a bunch of cables and decided to throw this item into my order on a whim.

First off, I absolutely did not want a 'Universal' dock. I didn't want to muck around with adaptors and other ugly things that would make my 1st generation Nano fit into a dock. This fits the bill.

Secondly I had read reviews that no cable is included with this. When I spoke to the Apple Store representative they advised my it just uses the same USB cable that came with my Nano. That was perfect (although I suppose not great for those that need a replacement).

It arrived and I set it up in two seconds. Nice, pretty, and sturdy.

I plugged in my iPod and nothing happened. No syncing or anything. I closed and reopened iTunes and it recognized it, synced and everything worked fine.

After looking at the setup I realize, other than looking pretty (by not having my old cord dangling around), and needing to always fish around to plug and unplug the cord all the time, there really isn't much use for this. However, I think the thirty bucks is kind of work it to plop the ol' iPod down easier (i use it so much).

The line out is a nice bonus. If it had been a year ago when i had gotten this dock it would have been so much more useful. Currently I have my iMac connected to my home theatre with other cables. Back then, my computer was far away from my stereo so this would have been a great answer to being able to just plug in my iPod to the stereo. I would recommend purchasing the Apple USB Power Adaptor to go along with it if this is the setup you would like.

I actually may get another one, with the Apple USB Power Adaptor just to be able to plug it in either in my bedroom, or at work! Then again, there are many other iPod alternatives that actual come with speakers and such. I just fancy the sleek fitting this has... like I said, I hate the universal docks.

    Great Dock - No Cable

Just want to make sure everone knows that the iPod nano Dock doesn't come with a cable to plug it into your computer. You're supposed to use the cable that came with your nano when you bought it. I lost my cable and thought this might be the solution... oops.

It's ok, not much use if you have a good computer though.

This dock is ok. My Mom bought it thinking that I would be able to use it to charge my iPod Nano without a computer. The only thing it really does is holds the iPod Nano upright while it's charging or syncing. However, there is nothing extra you could do with the dock that you can't do with the iPod Nano by itself. Since most computers today come with a USB or Firewire port in the front I really found no use for it. (Other than looking prety.)

I thought it was a charger when I bought it, but it is not. I guess having my nano stand up is a good thing. Its well made. Not really worth 30 bucks, but it was my mistake.

I liked the dock at first but I got these holders for my iPod (tubes) and now my iPod won't fit in the hole to charge your iPod. I have been researching on apple and I'm gunna get the universal dock but now i'll be stuck with the original dock what should I do? And the thing that really ticks me off is that it says "the dock is compatible with all accesories!!!!!!! lol i think not

The dock is okay but would be better if Apple came out with a black color for the other nano.

i just bought a nano dock (literly 10 minutes ago) any way, i was kinda disapointed because i have a tube on my ipod, and i couldnt fit the ipod with the tube in the dock, so i took the tube off and it took me a long time to take it off. i think i might return it and get the universal dock.

This Dock was'nt the best I have ever had... but it was still a pretty good one. Somtimes it didn't work or it didn't charge. I think that it should'nt sell for so much. If possible please lower price for other people who buy this Dock. Iam a big fan of the Official Apple Stor. So are all my friends. We've bought $1000's off your sight. Please never close dow

    Was it necessary?

Probably not. I thought by purchasing the nano dock I would be able to charge my nano without plugging it into my computer (or laptop). Well that didn't work. Although I must say the nano looks very nice on the dock it serves little purpose other than.....sitting on my desk. I was a little disappointed, for $30 you should be able to at least charge it (from the dock) without plugging it into my laptop. Oh well, I guess this is the price (literally) that I have to pay.

    Only if..

Only if you have a nano and a nano only do you need this. If you have or someone has a iPod video or a iPod that works of the same connection, you have your adapter and you can use that. I just got a Video and my wife has a nano now I have to spend a extra 40 for a dock for mine when I could of just bought the normal one and she could of used the adapter.

    If you really need stereo-out

    • Written by from Medina

Just to correct some of the other reviews...

You can charge AND use the stereo out feature at the same time. Just load up I-Tunes, eject the I-Pod from within I-Tunes, and you're good to go.

As for the Dock itself, it's hard to rate something like this. On one hand, it does exactly what it's supposed to. It provides a stylish way to charge the I-Pod, while providing access to stereo-out. So, if that was all, it would get 5 stars.

On the other hand, something as basic as stereo-out functionality should be included with the Nano, NOT something you have to shell out $30+tax+s/h to get. The price is the main issue. That's why I'm rating it only 3 stars.

You either pony up the cash, get a nice charger, and the stereo out...or you save your money and look elsewhere.

    Just For Looks

even if you don't want to charge by using your computer, you can just buy the usb wall plug-in and take the 2.0 cord they give you; and voila. plus i already have an ipod mini dock that came with it and it works ith the nano :\ basically just a bigger fitting where the ipod sits. Unessecary to buy.

the ipod nano dock is the same as any onther dock for ipod the only difference in the nano dock its a tight fight thats just it.its only to connect to your computer so save yourself 30$ and just use the usb cable that came with your ipod nano anyway its alot more portable without the dock.

Useful in a few small ways

One of the main reasons I purchased the dock for my Nano was to move it off the desk and also to provide a nice line-out for my bedroom stereo. For that, it does its job just fine.

However, since it's so important to have a case for the Nano, make sure that you purchase a case which allows for the dock port to be open and folds up, as there's next to no clearance for a small silicone case on this dock. That alone diminishes its functionality.

    Does what it's supposed to.

My only concern with it is the price seeing as how it doesn't come with a cable to go from the dock to the PC. You are expected to use the one that came with your Nano. Too bad I use that cable for my laptop or for quick charging if I am away from my home computer. That's why I got the dock for my home PC. Now it turns out that I have to spend another 19 dollars on something I feel should have come with it in the first place. (shrug) Maybe it's just me.

Guess I should have just got another cable instead.

Necessary? ... no, Worthless? ... definitely not

Well ... the dock does add one feature many might desire--the line out. If you plan to send signal to any amp/speaker setup, the line out is the optimal send as compared to the headphone out.

There is a difference between these 2 ... line out is proper line level w/ relatively flat response (what most equipment wants to "see") ... the headphone out is at least, I believe, EQ'd slightly to compensate for the reponse of headphones -- slightly different ouput level too.

You get the correct line level through the included cable (for playing the Nano through your computer), but the dock is a good thing to have around for other speaker/amp setups.

I definitely prefer the line level in comnination w/ other audio equipment.
