    ridiculous product

    • Written by from New York

Bad Apple. As other reviewer's have pointed out, everything hinges, literally, on one tiny point and a weak little allen wrench. The point strips immediately and you are stuck with a half-on bracket that cannot be removed. Worse, if you call Apple, they disavow any responsibility for a product that they sell in a box covered with apples. I managed to complete the installation by jamming a pair of scissors into the gap and wedging the bracket out far enough so that the other pieces would catch. Not fun. Bad Apple, Bad Apple

    NO (basic) size description!

    • Written by from New Orleans

Using the 'date of birth' of your ACD is a lousy way to determine the correct mount.
    This $29 unit = 5 7/8" wide / while my ACD desktop stand's mount = 3 5/8" wide.
I could have easily detemined this was the wrong mount to bein with; saving me & APPLE the hassle.
N O W I'm ordering the $39 version (though there's NO width listed for that model either) in the hope that it will be the correct, smaller fitting my ACD requires - though (illogically) costing $10 MORE

    Easier than reviews claimed...

    • Written by from Greensboro

I bought two of these 23" Cinema Displays and one for a 24" LED. After reading the reviews here I was really worried these were going to take some effort to get in place.

These were really easy to install. Just followed the directions provided with the adapters and use the correct screws and bumpers for your Cinema Display.

Only two reasons I am giving this a four instead of a five:
    1) Lack of screws provided with each adapter. $.80 per pair from Lowes (4M 10mm).
    2) The fact that I had to drop $100 to mount my three displays to a stand.

    Easy to Install

    • Written by from Encinitas

The VESA mount adaptor worked perfectly and was very easy to install. The kit came with the screws and rubbers for the 20, 23, and 30 inch monitors. I have the 20 inch, but it seems like it would fit the others just as easily. It even came with the wrench I needed. This isn't really worth $30 as it should be included with the monitor, but I'm okay with it not.

    VESA Mount Adapter Kit

    • Written by from Roswell

Nice quality mount, I'm extremely pleased with it, same metal texture as the Cinema Display. Kit comes with 2 sets of plastic bumpers (one for 20-23" Display and one for 30" Display), Screws, and instructions.
I mounted my 23" Cinema Display HD to a VESA drafting table monitor arm within 10 minutes using 100mm screws (that came with the monitor arm) with no problems. I'm unsure of the difficulty to re-attach the monitor to the original stand, but it looks as straight forward as the installation of the adapter.
If you have a Cinema Display HD and want to mount it to the wall or a desk arm, this is what you need.

Strong and well engineered, but the instructions are flawed.

    • Written by from Chatsworth

One picture in the instructions shows the attaching bar going in backwards. It won't work unless the screws go into the side that has the counter-sinks.

    not apple experience worthy

    • Written by from Benton Harbor

My coworker wanted a standing desk so I attached this for him. The amount of force I had to use to line up the screws was insane. The piece of plastic you get to unlatch the thing is cheap. Too much pressure in the wrong place and you make it useless.
After being sick of the standing desk my coworker wanted the original stand back. I pulled it out and they needed help. They got it removed and the other stand attached, but couldn't get the monitor to tilt back. There are no instructions in the manual on removing it. I found a few things online (nothing on the apple site) but nothing was useful.
The real trick was pushing the monitor so far forward you felt like you were breaking the thing. Then you can use the card to push the spring and release the lock. Very unfriendly.

Get this if you need it, but be prepared for a struggle.

    Nice looking... but

    • Written by from Houston

The VESA mount looks great and works as advertised, but it is extreamly difficult to mount. It took me a good half an hour of fiddling with the screws before I got them to catch on both sides. A little more tolorance in the design would be a great benefit.

    Mine didn't fit

    • Written by from Saint Joseph

On my mid-2011 27" iMac, the holes didn't line up, and they were off a lot. I removed the protective plastic strips and it was closer, but still no fit. To make it work, I had to machine off almost 5/64" from the bracket. You should also be careful with the eight screws that hold the bar onto the back of the iMac---they're softer than you might expect. Overall, poor design or quality control (I don't know which), but I expected better from Apple.

Frankenstein contraption, total pain to install, dodgy alignment

    • Written by from Athens

I had to return the first one of these I bought because the milling was so bad that no matter how tight I screwed it on, the screws would never align on the sides. The adapter depends on the threads of one small bolt to pull the heavily-sprung mount out of the display and into alignment. The alignment has to be perfect to install the side bolts, there is no margin for error. What a headache.

Great product but make sure you have the right monitor!

    • Written by from San Jose

This is for the 20", 23", and 30" aluminum non-glossy monitors! This will not work for the new 24" and 27" glossy black bezel displays, so make sure you buy the right one. Search for the other VESA mount adapter kit, part #MC772ZM/A

    re review by CW

He is correct in his statements regarding detaching the desk base. After struggling with ithe card ala the instruction book with the screen upright and getting no joy, I managed to get into the Genius bar at Asspen Grove in Colorado with only an hour's notice where fiddling to get the card to contact the switch proved to be just as futile. The Tech then laid the monitor/cpu face down on the desk with the card inserted and - Whee! - the mount with the eight screws popped up and locked. Problem solved. The unit is very heavy - two people are almost a necessity, but is extremely stable and does drop the screen down a good three inches. Much easier on my nexk

    Review before installing!

    • Written by from Villa Park

A word of caution. The directions for this product are not very clear regarding the removal of thebase stand.

The direction state you must tilt the screen all the way forward, use the provided card to depress the inner switch, and while the inner switch is depressed you are able to pull the base stand out of the imac/display. The base stand will still be connected to a spring load holder which is connected to the inside the iMac/display but will now be protruding out from the iMac/display. This spring loaded arm holder is what you will connect your vesa mount to after removing the stand that is connected to it.

IT IS CRITICAL THAT YOU MAKE SURE THE SPRING LOADED ARM HOLDER PROTRUDES OUT OF THE IMAC/DISPLAY AND LOCKS INTO THAT POSITION BEFORE REMOVING THE BASE STAND. YOU WILL KNOW THAT IT IS LOCKED WHEN YOU REMOVE THE CARD USED TO DEPRESS THE SWITCH AND THE BASE STAND CANNOT SWIVEL BACK AND FOURTH. IF YOU FAIL TO EXTERNALLY LOCK THE SPRING LOADED ARM HOLDER AFTER YOU UNSCREW THE BASE STAND FROM THE ARM HOLDER, THE ARM HOLDER WILL DEPRESS BACK INSIDE THE IMAC/DISPLAY AND IT IS NEAR IMPOSSIBLE TO PULL BACK OUT. (IF THIS HAPPENS, YOU WILL HAVE TO BRING YOUR IMAC/DISPLAY TO THE NEAREST APPLE STORE AND HOPE THEY HAVE THE PROPER TOOL TO PULL THE INNER ARM HOLDER BACK OUT. THIS IS NO EASY TASK, EVEN FOR THE APPLE "GENIUSES."

If you are successful and the inner spring loaded arm holder externally locks into place, installation is very simple.

    Extremely Difficult

    • Written by from Washington Township

I am a very handy person. I am in the process of renovation my whole house and this was the hardest task to date. The directions are not easy to follow and I wasn't sure if I am supposed to mount directly to the wall or to another wall mount. I decided to go directly to the wall. It was extremely difficult to get the holes to line up and my hand could fit behind the MAC to tighten the screws. It took me 2 days to work up a solution, but I finally did and now I am happy. For such a smart company, this is the worst design. I was very angry and frustrated until it was finally done.

    Simply Perfect !!!

    • Written by from Ridgewood

This piece is exactly what is meant to be. Installation is as described, perfect fit with VESA mounts. I read all the other reviews before and I think that people that are not happy with this adaptor, either bought a cheap mount or have no idea or talent for this kind of stuff. Any TV, monitor, etc. don't have screws holes to accommodate different dimensions or standards; the mount always comes with a bunch of screws, mounting plates and washers. The only thing I could comment is that it could come with my 30" display for the price i paid.

    READ THESE REVIEWS !!!

A very useful, necessary item if you plan on mounting the 24" iMac. DONT KID AROUND WITH THE TORX SCREWS, they are soft, torqued down in the factory and easily stripped! Get a good driver with alot of leverage before attempting to turn these crews, under no circumstances use the tool in the kit.

I had to drill one out and I thought I was being careful. Why they didn't send a new set of screws with this kit is unexplainable. That being said, once on, it makes mounting a cinch.
