Apple Mini-DVI to DVI Adapter
Great Product
Written by ER from Isabela
Sep 7, 2007
I have been using this adapter for quite a long time in my iMac without problems. A lot of people were expecting Analog conversion but you have to face it, today almost all the displays using DVI are digital, so why put something in the market that will become obsolete.

Apple Mini-DVI to DVI Adapter
minidvi to dvi adapter
Written by SM from Sharpsburg

seems to work fine. i have no problem with its length... i'd rather it be the way that it is as in a female connector rather than it be a long cable and having its length fixed. my only gripe is that this is a DIGITAL dvi port-- which means no converting into analog vga. apple was pretty sneaky that way, since i thought i could kill two birds with one stone with this dvi adapter nd an adapter that converted it back into vga. i was wrong.

Apple Mini-DVI to DVI Adapter
Mini-DVI to DVI Adapter is a valuable resource
Written by JA from Alexandria
Aug 31, 2007
I've run across data projectors that won't work with a 12-inch PowerBook and a Mini-DVI to VGA Adapter. In every case these DVI-compatible projectors worked with the Mini-DVI to DVI Adapter. Even if you don't regularly need this adapter, you might well want to keep one in your "presentation kit."
My firm's corporate IT staff seem to favor the VGA interface and often discard the DVI cables that are supplied with many "generic" monitors. The reviewers who believe the Mini-DVI to DVI Adapter should be two-meters long need to find out where their "support" staff are hiding the cables with the white connectors -- or they should buy one of Apple's delightful Cinema displays.25 of 74 people found this useful

Apple Mini-DVI to DVI Adapter
best adapter anywhere
Written by TD from davie

It's not a cable and I'm glad its not as resolution would degrade anyways.
I am using an HPw2207 widescreen monitor and it was automatically at the best resolution. as a matter of fact i am using it to type this message using the ADAPTER.27 of 54 people found this useful

Stop Complaining!! Its an ADAPTER!
Written by DH from Portland

I can't believe everyone on here is getting all up in arms about the cord length...ITS AN ADAPTER!!!! not a cord. You dont see a USB to PS2 adapter being 6 feet long...I think this thing is a GREAT ADAPTER...Works great with my monitor and the CORD I bought to use with this ADAPTER! Kudos Apple, once again.

Frustrating.

Why doesn't Apple or anyone make a normal-length (3' or 6') Mini-DVI to DVI cable? I couldn't find one on the 'net anywhere. All I could find were this cable and versions the same length. (on eBay) This adapter works, but overpriced and wasteful. And my iBook came with a video adapter. My MacBook should have too.

Stop Confusion and Hysteria!!
Written by FS from PARK FOREST
Aug 22, 2007
After reading all of the reviews here twice, and winding up confused and a bit fearful, I went to the Apple Store with my DVI cord in hand from the new Samsung 225BW monitor that I had just had delivered from Amazon. The Apple Store salesperson looked at me like I was nuts. Of course the mini-DVI-DVI adapter would work perfectly with the DVI cable from the Samsung monitor--and it did--strictly plug and play.

Apple Mini-DVI to DVI Adapter
Of course it's short!!!
Written by DG from Pullman
Aug 9, 2007
Nice, simple adapter. I use it to connect my Macbook to a 20" HP w2007 monitor and it works perfectly.
As far as reviews complaining about the "cord" length, of course it's going to be short- it's an ADAPTER, not a cord. The short cord length is great because you can use whatever cable length you want, and the short cord allows you to route the cable any way you want as opposed to solid-state adapters that force you to route the cable at a specific angle.35 of 51 people found this useful

Works!
Written by SC from Tempe

This is an adapter, not a cord. I used this to hook my little macbook with its mini-dvi port up to my big Panasonic plasma tv. My tv actually has hdmi input, not dvi, but I have a hdmi to dvi cord so I used that with this and it works perfectly.

Works fine for DVI, but...
Written by DP from Toronto

I had the same problem as som eother reviewers here--I figured it would work with Apple's own DVI to VGA adapter so I could use it for both VGA and DVI. The picture on the packaging shows the number of pins I expected, but the product is different.

WHY IS THIS SO FREAKIN SHORT???
Written by KH from Council Bluffs
Jul 28, 2007
I've been looking forward to receiving this cable in the mail for 2 weeks to hook my flatscreen up to my iMac. No way. The cord is so short that it simply will not reach. Why so CHEAP on the cord length Apple? It might have cost you a few cents to make this a useable length? Now I have to hope I can find an extension. How ridiculous is that?

Why not output to DVI-I?
Written by TA from San Francisco
Jul 23, 2007
Yo, what's up with dumping the analog signal with the mini-dvi -> dvi adapter? The analog is produced by the mini-dvi port on the laptop, right, so why couldn't apple just route it through to a female dvi-i plug? Perhaps as a clever way of making people purchase both an over-priced mini-dvi -> vga adapter as well as an over-priced mini-dvi -> dvi, cuz apple is the only company servicing the mini-dvi market? I love my macbook, but that's not gangster (or maybe it is...).

Works with new Intel XServe too!
Written by JG from Roselle
Jul 3, 2007
I got one of the new XServe Xeon machines, and wanted to use a 17" DVI capable LCD monitor that I had laying around. Works just fine. I know a DVI monitor is probably overkill for a server machine, but I had one and didn't have to look for an older VGA capable monitor. Very pleased with this cable!

Apple Mini-DVI to DVI Adapter
Works very well
Written by JB from Cicero
Jun 17, 2007
I must agree with previous posts that the cord on this product should have been just a bit longer (no more than a couple of inches) to at least fit through the opening on the stand of an iMac 17". Other than that, it provides excellent signal and quality to my external monitor. If you have a DVI port on your extra monitor, I would recommend it.

Written by MH from Iowa Falls

This cable allowed me to connect my Core Duo Imac to a second monitor, extending my desktop to that second monitor. The cable installed very easily, and connected to the digital signal cable of my 17" Princeton monitor with ease. It works perfectly.

Cord too short
Written by WF from New Orleans
May 19, 2007
The cable worked fine with a nice crisp picture. Very impressed! But the cord is like 6 inches long. Who could possible use this without an extension? Apple, I think you need to lengthen this cord. Now I have to buy an extension. Really, 6 inches. Come one! I'd have to pull my monitor away from the wall and hold the laptop next to the back in order to use it.

Apple Mini-DVI to DVI Adapter
Pay attention...
Written by MM from Vernon
May 18, 2007
Get the right cable people. The connector is DVI-D because DVI-I is digital AND analog to remain compatible with VGA (analog) SOURCE devices. Since I would assume the output on the MacBook and iMac is digital only there is no need to cause issues with the cable fitting but not being a compatible interface. Get a DVI-D cable for your monitor (without the 4 pins) and you'll be fine, since any monitor with a DVI input should accept DVI-D. If you really need to blame someone besides yourself blame the people who created the DVI interface for creating something that would work with what you already had for a while and not force everyone to buy all new stuff all at once.
