    Twice the Space!

    Written by KO from APO

    Nov 29, 2009

There was almost no effort to this setup. I plugged the adapter into the back of my old iMac, then plugged into the back of my Dell monitor (from an old PC that had long since broken down-surprise, surprise). The iMac automatically detected the type of monitor that I had plugged in and it was ready. Twice the desktop space in about 3 minutes. It looks great and is very helpful when editing videos, music, etc. it makes multitasking much easier.

I got this product for my Macbook. I am gonna dual screen my Macbook to my 32" Samsung Tv. I suggest that everyone make sure what model your Mac is before purchasing any Mini Dvi Adapter. Because they are different Like with this one.

Works with Mac mini (Early 2009) too

    Written by AD from Houston

This adapter works with the Mac mini (Early 2009), notwithstanding a claim to the contrary by another reviewer. My Pioneer plasma TV has a "PC" wide XGA (analog) port for connecting to a Mac or other personal computer. The Mac mini automatically recognized the available resolutions and color profile. The picture is beautiful. Couldn't ask for more.

Mini DVI to VGA Adapter works just fine with VGA connections. Apple only dropped connections to analog...ANALOG IS DEAD! AOK with digital. So it will work with any digital VGA monitor/display. If you are connecting to analog, then you will have problems.

Coming from PC laptops - I LIKE IT!

    Written by DP from Westbrook

I've had mine in service for about 2.5 years; it hooks my MacBook up to an old Envision 17" inch monitor and works flawlessly.

I once had a problem when running dual monitors (laptop and 17 monitor at very different resolutions) where I unhooked the monitor from the laptop while it was active. Then tried to watch a movie on the laptop and it got confused at which resolution to run. The people at the Apple Store (thanks you guys) and online help instructed me as to the proper procedure to unhook the monitor and the problem was resolved. They also showed me another way to fix it when it is unplugged while the laptop is active.

    If, I remember correctly:

    1. put the laptop to sleep then unplug the monitor.
    2. go to System Preferences > displays > gather monitors also solved the issue.

I like it because the adapter is small and very portable. Specifically, I like the mini DVI on the laptop because it is also small and helps therefore in keeping all the connections on the left side of the MacBook.

I'm not sure what the actual useful differences are between VGA and DVI, but I am looking forward to someday trying DVI to DVI as VGA has been around a long time.

Just got it in a few minutes ago, and it works perfectly! The only problem with the negative reviews is that they order the wrong adapter! Do what I did, and really research it!

The delivery was faster then I ever expected. All in all, 5 stars.

    AMAZING.... but be carfull

So when I purchased this cord i had no doubt that I would be impressed, and I was! it was amazing it worked great and improved my computer use so much! But however I noticed one thing that could be easily fixed, I found that the mini DVI side of the cord easily fell out or got disconnected, this resulted in the displays having to reset, which does not take long but can be a bother. So make sure that your cord is in there nice and tightly and not in a awkward position.

Other that than it was a amazing product!

I am the Video specialist for our church. We just bought a new iMac with which needed the Mini connection. We have had the set up for over a month and have had absolutely no problems. Knowing we needed this type of connection was a different situation. The computer was so new that even the sales rep didn't know we needed the newer connection.

The adapter works fine, but you have to be aware of which adapter you need for your computer. It's extremely frustrating that the adapters keep changing with the new models. It would be helpful if apple included the correct adapter with the computer, especially with the laptop models. It seems to me they used to do that.

Works perfectly connecting 2009 Mini to Sony Bravia

    Written by JB from Calgary

I bought a 40" 1080p Sony Bravia television in anticipation of the Mac Mini refresh. Due to the delays I hooked up my G5 tower to be our media center in the meantime. It worked pretty well but the new setup is far better - the Sony Bravia works perfectly as a monitor for the new Mini via this connector. It's seamless.

I've been using this adapter day-after-day for 2 years at school. I connect/reconnect it multiple times per day in a dusty environment (the chalkboard is only a couple feet away from my laptop). It's still working great!

    Product works perfectly

Written by AC from College Grove

I cracked my iMac screen right in the middle, rendering 80% of it useless. Alright, so it was in the back of the car, and a book-bag got thrown on it. It was "just" an accident! But never again...

Fixing the iMac with a new screen would have cost about $700-$900, which gave me great pause for thought. But I had an old VGA monitor that I had bought years ago, so I got the DVI to VGA Adapter from Apple. IT WORKS PERFECTLY!

As an added bonus (and I don't know if this is software driven or adapter driven), the desktop size automatically adjusted PERFECTLY for the size of my VGA monitor.

    (1) Apple sure knew what it was doing when it made this adapter.

    (2) Under this number (2), I had written a whole section praising Apple's technical support department, but when I read the "terms and conditions" for posting reviews, I had to delete it because the terms don't allow me to write about the service. Thanks anyway, you guys!

    It's an adaptor

    Written by PF from Wynyard

    Dec 23, 2008

Yes, CP from Langley, remember that this is essentially an adaptor, so it is meant to adapt what you already have in the form of a VGA/DVI cable. Your VGA/DVI cable will be a standard type for your devices. Apple provide this to help you 'convert' your signal. Why do they do this? Well, have you seen the back of a modern PC or non-Mac laptop...who really wants all those ugly holes in the back of their beautiful computer. Just use the adaptor when you need it - you only wear pyjamas when you need to, they're not underneath your clothes all the time!

Does what it needs to do

Written by ML from Shediac River

Well let's face it, this is an adapter cable, so really, what do you need to know... I plug one end into the VGA cable that fits my BenQ projector, and the other end into my Macbook pro, and everything works just fine. I've read a few reviews claiming the cable did not work with Samsung monitors. All I can say is it does work with my Samsung SyncMaster 712N. Like just about every cable ever made, it is more expensive than it should be, but this is not unique to apple - Just try to buy a Monster HDMI cable!

    Very, very good

    Written by FS from Brooklyn

    Oct 22, 2008

I got this with my (now previous generation) MacBook, and I used it with a variety of displays, ranging from a VGA monitor from the 90's to a beautiful 19" flat panel to a HD TV, and every time, it provides a clear and sharp picture. If the DVI version is good, I'll probably get that one too.

I highly recommend it, but if you just bought one of the new MacBooks, MBPs, or MBAs, be sure to get the one with the Mini Display port. This one won't work with those.
