Works, apple should have included it.

    Written by JE from Bakersfield

This obviously works with my macbook. My problem is that apple didnt include this with the macbook. I realize that there are differnt addapters, bt i really think it should have come with my macbook, so i dont have to pay 20 bucks for one. I had one with my ibook, why not the macbook?

    Just doesn't work

Written by CB from North Vancouver

    May 5, 2007

I bought the Mini DVI to VGA adapter so I could show my photos on my projector. The projector doesn't 'see' my MACBOOK and the MACBOOK doesn't see my projector. Rebooted, fired up the projector first then MACBOOK first, every possible combination, but no luck... blew an hour trying to get the thing working. BOOHOO, had a bunch of people over to see my pics of Europe and it was just a big bust. This is a passive device so hard to understand why it wouldnt work.

Works fine with OSX outputting to an ancient LCD projector but Windows running in VMWare beta doesn't recognize the hardware.

Coolest thing ever (from a soon to be former PC user)

Written by PS from Fort Collins

Full resoluiton on both Macbook and Dell monitors make for a gigantic desktop. Worked with no problems.

I started with Apple back in the Apple II days, went over to the dark side for a long time (but still recently owned a G4 MMD), but I think my new Macbook may soon become my only computer. If so, this adpater is one of the reasons. I got this (and a mini DVI to DVI that I haven' tried yet), plugged it into the VGA port of my Dell 2005FPW and now I am experiencing the multi-monitor, full resolution (1680 x 1050 and 1280 x 800), spanned-desktop love.

No problems whatsoever. The resolution on the Dell monitor, even in VGA, is quite good. I was going to keep the PC plugged into the DVI, but now I may switch and relegate the PC back to VGA and put the Macbook on the DVI port. I can hardly wait. This is a great product that works just as described. Kudos to Apple. Whooo hooo! Get one (or both). You'll be glad that you did.

    Mini DVI to VGA Adaptor

Written by AB from San Francisco

    Apr 28, 2007

I can't get the new Mini DVI to VGA adaptor to sync with my Sharp projector when connected to my MacBook. I see the projector in the Display preferences, but it cannot find my MacBook to project it. I have had success with connecting my 14" iBook to the projector. That connector is different however to the one sold for the MacBook.

    I'm frustrated and disappointed.

I use the adapter with my 13" macbook & it works perfectly. There is no configuration required. The video quality is quite good despite being downgraded to VGA.

    Compatibility issue

    Written by SA from Lethbridge

    Feb 27, 2007

    Although the copy above states:
"The Apple Mini-DVI to VGA Adapter is designed for use with the iMac (Intel Core Duo), MacBook, and 12-inch PowerBook G4."
The adapter that came (and works) with my 12" Powerbook G4 (867 MHz) has a different plug configuration than the one on my MacBook. The two are not interchangable. The description could stand to be more specific regarding _which_ models of PBG4 are compatible.
Both models have worked like a charm for me.

    mini-dvi ambiguity

    Written by MB from kensington

    Feb 16, 2007

the unannounced & visually negligible difference between mini-dvi sockets for ibook and macbook is a serious issue. i have been in the position of rescuing a visiting speaker's PC presentation by offering my laptop only to discover that the "mini-dvi adaptor" i already owned ( ibook ) did not fit my macbook. the reputation of the mac for ease and adaptability suffered. it needn't have.

    Great...for a time

Written by CK from New Orleans

    Feb 2, 2007

Worked well connecting my 12" G4 PowerBook - it's the ONLY way to connect an external monitor. UNTIL the adapter turned a year old. Poor cord design resulting in some kind of short in the adapter. Now the only way to see anything but an all-purple (or red or yellow) monitor screen is to twist the adapter's cord into a crazy pretzel. Very shoddy manufacturing. If Apple's continuing the use of mini-DVI, they need to devise a better solution than this!

I read the specs? I did!

    Written by TL from Monrovia

Regarding the issue about the mini-DVI to VGA adapter that does not fit the ibook, it is useful to point out that nowhere on the package does Apple indicate that different model laptops require different mini-DVI adapters. It would be useful if Apple simply wrote, on the packaging, "This adapter fits the following models ...". This is not a difficult thing to do. Moreover, the average consumer is going to assume that a mini-DVI adapter made by Apple will fit all "mini-DVI" ports, unless, of course, Apple makes it clear that this isn't the case.

This said, the adpater works just as it is supposed to when you get the right one.

This is great! Could using two displays on a Mac be any easier? I just hooked it up to my MacBook, then the second monitor to the adapter, and now I have dual displays with separate windows on each! You can tell your Mac where the second display is located, too. Total time to set up another display, 8 seconds. Well worth it.

    Wow, I love it!

Written by WW from Glen Burnie

I recently converted to the iMac (6-10 months ago) and had the iMac and PC next to each other. I no longer use the PC but had a very nice 19 inch VGA LCD display. I figured I may be able to use it as a 2nd display on the iMac and ditch the PC all together. Bought the mini DVI adapter, plugged it in, plugged the monitor into the adapter, and it JUST WORKED! No drivers, no reboots! I then simply chose the display size I wanted for the 2nd monitor, but both the iMac display and 2nd LCD are in high res and working flawless! Fantastic freedom and option on the iMac, thanks Apple! I have to encourage all who want a 2nd monitor to try this out! Works on the new Intel iMacs.

Works great with my MacBook! Just plug it in, and it works.
I use it mostly to connect to a projector for presentations, but I don't see any kind of distortions/noises on the screen. Should be the same for normal CRT/LCD displays.

Some people have stated that it doesn't work with the iBook.
Well, that's pretty obvious... iBooks never had Mini-DVI. iBooks have Mini-VGA, which is not compatible with this adaptor.

    read the specs!

    Written by JD

It really gets on my nerves when people write angry reviews when its thier fault that the item is not working (i.e. trying to use this with a ibook g4 when its not intened to be used with an ibook g4, obviously it will not work!!!!!!!!!!!!) However if you try reading the specs you will find the compatible machines. WOW what an idea acctually checking to see if it work with your machine before you buy it. This product works very well with the machines it was designed to be used with. I imagine apple has released several different mini dvi ports because they are making improvement in engineering and change the port for the better of the product not to be sneaky and have you buy all kinds of equipment. Apple makes tons of money they are not worried about trying to get you to buy a 20.00 product. Read the specs!!!

i just came back from nyc to my home in connecticut after buying a
"mini dvi" to vga adapter for my ibook g4.guess what...IT DOES NOT FIT!!! what is the deal with mac making different mini dvi adapters that look excactly the same but in reality they are a nano meter wider than the other one that, unless you know this, looks like the right one for your machine.heres a novel idea , apple inc...stop trying to be so different, to be so original, that you make longtime customers or any customer for that matter, like myself, get so fed up that they "being me , for whom i can only speak but are surely not alone on this matter" decide to switch to PC just for sanitys sake.by the way those "mac man vs pc man" commercials speak volumes...more than you could have ever known...

    signed,frustrated pc,i mean mac person!

    . . .

    Written by TM from Lakewood

The Adapter works, but we knew that.

This came with the ibook but now costs $19. This is not an accessory, it is a necessity. All other laptops can be plugged into an external monitor without having to pay $19 for an adapter. Pretty upsetting, Apple's been getting on my nerves with charging extra for something that should come with the laptop or ipod. Examples: Ipod originally came with a firewire cable, usb cable, and a/c adapter. Now comes with USB cable and costs $30 for the a/c adapter!
