Well let's face it, this is an adapter cable, so really, what do you need to know... I plug one end into the VGA cable that fits my BenQ projector, and the other end into my Macbook pro, and everything works just fine. I've read a few reviews claiming the cable did not work with Samsung monitors. All I can say is it does work with my Samsung SyncMaster 712N. Like just about every cable ever made, it is more expensive than it should be, but this is not unique to apple - Just try to buy a Monster HDMI cable!

I got this with my (now previous generation) MacBook, and I used it with a variety of displays, ranging from a VGA monitor from the 90's to a beautiful 19" flat panel to a HD TV, and every time, it provides a clear and sharp picture. If the DVI version is good, I'll probably get that one too.

I highly recommend it, but if you just bought one of the new MacBooks, MBPs, or MBAs, be sure to get the one with the Mini Display port. This one won't work with those.

Resolution Problem

It seems like a good product, and i'm not sure if I just have settings wrong on my macbook, my monitor or if i'm doing something else wrong. Either way I can never get the screen resolution right. I've tried all the different resolutions and they all either stretch windows horizontally or vertically. I've read about other people having similar problems but i've never read a solution.

Great product. However, be careful. This is a fragile piece of technology. After about a year of use, the video is now pink and flickers between blue and normal. Periodically if you place a book of some sort on it, it won't do such a thing. Good, overall.

This works great does what its suppose to. People need to learn the Difference between Mini-DVI (Macbooks) and MiniVGA (iBooks). There different. So stop saying they sent you the wrong one or say there are two kinds. One kind. Works good!

This product is not useful at all. I bought this product and I am returning it in the same day. The cable is way too short. I wanted to hook my macbook up to a bigger screen, but the cable did not reach from my laptop to my screen. It was such a waste. It was extremely hard to plug into with the two screws on the end. Overall this thing is a piece of junk. I would not recommend this product to anyone

I recently purchased this product, even though some people have given this a bad review. This product works great for the setup I have. Don't be so harsh with the reviews just because you bought the wrong product. It's not Apple fault. Do some research first to see if this is in fact the product you need before you buy it.

I bought this nearly two years ago at the same time as my Intel MacBook. I've hooked it up to a monitor or projector nearly every day. I toss it into my bag every day with complete disregard, even though I've lost those silly protective caps a long time ago. I haven't had a single problem with it. It works like a dream, and I would recommend it to every MacBook owner!

I originally paid $30 for this, but it appears to be $20 now. If the cable is bent, it may start to work unreliably. When my cable is bent a certain way, the screen turns a blue tint even though you can still read everything. Then I move the cord slightly and it fixes itself. So be very careful when transporting this cable so that you do not damage it.

This product is good, it works as intended, it is only meant to be an adapter but i would have to agree, i wish the cord was longer and i wish it stayed in better, some kind of a clip or something would help. It would be really cool if apple made this a cord that connected directly to the monitor, so you wouldn't have to have 4 inches of cord followed by a large plug, it would be more sleek.

I was just looking over the reviews, and I've seen a lot of people complaining that the cable is not long enough, the VGA side is female, etc. Well, THIS PRODUCT IS AN ADAPTER, NOT A CABLE. The reason why the VGA side is female is because it is supposed to connect to a male-to-male VGA cable (typically a blue cable received with any purchase of an external monitor). So, you plug this cable into your apple computer or laptop, and the male-to-male VGA cable connects to the monitor on one side, and the mini DVI to VGA adapter on the other side. That's what this product is made for.
Other than that, I have been using my adapter for about 5 months, and it has worked excellently. As any computer accessory, it has to be taken good care of and not thrown around. Thanks Apple!

Can't People read?

I have bought many things from the apple store, all of them work perfectly and to the exact specifications that they were intended
The Biggest problem i have with the apple store is the people who order stuff and then complain that it doesn't work because they can't read. If you read the description on what the device your ordering is for then you will get what you want. Its really not that complicated.
Specifically on this cable, yes it is only for Intel based macs, NOT the older macs, (iBook...etc) and its not meant to be long, I don't know of any devices that have male connection points? It replicates a port on the side of your computer, its not an extension.
So for all the complainer's, please for the good of all the Online store shoppers, please go back to grade 5 and learn how to read

Even though spaces works wonderfully in leopard, i felt i needed a bit more space for some projects i work on. I had an extra LCD screen and figured I'd give this cable a shot, and it works perfectly. I now have more room to work, and no problems with the cable. The only thing is the cable could be longer, and a bit more secure when inserted into the mini-dvi port..I barely move the computer and it slips out.

How long does it take for Apple to fix something that is obviously faulty?

Apple has us over a barrel here; the adapter is extremely shoddily made, but it is the only way to attach my macbook to my VGA monitor. As others have written, at first it works very well (for this reason I gave is some stars), but after just a very short while, it begins to "lose red." First it happened when I didn't have the adapter very carefully placed so there were no bends, but I figured that one out very quickly. After a month or so, the colours would change when ever anybody walked by the monitor, shifting the adapter only slightly. After only a week or two of this, it started to change colours all the time on its own. Yesterday I finally connected the new one I had bought immediately, months ago, after reading all of these reviews; I didn't want to be left without one when the first one would inevitably break. I'm now about to order two more for the same reason. How long does it take for Apple to fix a product that EVERYONE has problems with? I shouldn't have to stock up, especially when it costs $25.00 Canadian, plus shipping. I might as well start looking into buying a new monitor with a different connection considering the amount I'm spending on replacing this adapter.

Will it work with a tv too?

I bought this and it only goes to a moniter but i think there are some cables out there that will go to this and goes to a tv. I mean I bought this and it was good when I hooked it up to my moniter and the picture is great but I wanted it to connect to my TV even my flat screen downstairs. But on the other hand this item is the best and it is useful
