    Works great, but poor connection.

I use this often to connect my MacBook to my other monitor. The product works great and I've never had a problem getting it to display everything properly on my other monitor. However, the connection from the "Mini DVI to VGA Adapter" to my MacBooks Mini DVI port is very poor (it's a loose connection)...it can easily be knocked or pulled out. I just wish Apple would have made the connection more solid, other than that it works great.

My mDP worked for about a week before failing completely. I wasted a lot of time then went to the nearest Apple store. No questions asked, no receipt required -- they replaced it with a new one that works...so far.

    Very, very good

I got this with my (now previous generation) MacBook, and I used it with a variety of displays, ranging from a VGA monitor from the 90's to a beautiful 19" flat panel to a HD TV, and every time, it provides a clear and sharp picture. If the DVI version is good, I'll probably get that one too.

I highly recommend it, but if you just bought one of the new MacBooks, MBPs, or MBAs, be sure to get the one with the Mini Display port. This one won't work with those.

    Can't People read?

I have bought many things from the apple store, all of them work perfectly and to the exact specifications that they were intended
The Biggest problem i have with the apple store is the people who order stuff and then complain that it doesn't work because they can't read. If you read the description on what the device your ordering is for then you will get what you want. Its really not that complicated.
Specifically on this cable, yes it is only for Intel based macs, NOT the older macs, (iBook...etc) and its not meant to be long, I don't know of any devices that have male connection points? It replicates a port on the side of your computer, its not an extension.
So for all the complainer's, please for the good of all the Online store shoppers, please go back to grade 5 and learn how to read

Just got it in a few minutes ago, and it works perfectly! The only problem with the negative reviews is that they order the wrong adapter! Do what I did, and really research it!

The delivery was faster then I ever expected. All in all, 5 stars.

    Poorly Made

Great concept for sure, plugged it in a off I went. Depsite this however, I give it a thumbs down as I am now on my 3rd adapter after the first to shorted within 2 months of use. First symptoms are a blue tinge on the external monitor or some flickering, both of which are resolved with a wiggle of the cable. This however, only works for a couple of weeks until it stops working altogether. I took apart the second adapter after it went bad and you can clearly see where the wiring is coming apart from any bending that may occur. If I could find another supplier for this I would. Not up to Mac's usual manufacturing standard.

    A flawed design

First of all, could they make this cable any shorter? After laying down 20 bux i had to find a radio shack to get a vga extension cable for this cable.... then, it turns out that the mini dvi connecter has just about zero connection strength. move the cable just slightly and out comes the dvi connector... whoever designed this should feel ashamed!

be careful to get the correct adapter for 13 inch macbook

This adapter does not fit the new 13 inch macbook even though it says it does in the ad. For this you need the mini displayport to VGA adapter. Don't make the same mistake i did. That said they sent me out the correct one free of charge.

    mini-dvi ambiguity

the unannounced & visually negligible difference between mini-dvi sockets for ibook and macbook is a serious issue. i have been in the position of rescuing a visiting speaker's PC presentation by offering my laptop only to discover that the "mini-dvi adaptor" i already owned ( ibook ) did not fit my macbook. the reputation of the mac for ease and adaptability suffered. it needn't have.

Not the cheapest adapter in the world, but seems to work fine for me. Had no problems hooking up to my Samsung monitor. No issues whatsoever.

I have a 2009 Macbook 5,2 and I have been trying for some time now to get this Mini DVI adapter to send a signal to my TV. I have tried connecting it both through S Video and VGA. Can anyone help me figure out if there is a way to make this work? I have spent $50 on cables already and gotten no closer to being able to use my TV as a display for my laptop. Thanks!

Does what it needs to do

Well let's face it, this is an adapter cable, so really, what do you need to know... I plug one end into the VGA cable that fits my BenQ projector, and the other end into my Macbook pro, and everything works just fine. I've read a few reviews claiming the cable did not work with Samsung monitors. All I can say is it does work with my Samsung SyncMaster 712N. Like just about every cable ever made, it is more expensive than it should be, but this is not unique to apple - Just try to buy a Monster HDMI cable!

Mini DVI != Mini DVI - this is amazing FAIL

    • Written by from Sydney

49 of 64 people found this useful

Apple failed to accurately describe which of its computers will actually fit this cable. Packaging states "Requires Mac with a mini-DIV port", but the cable does NOT fit into my MacBook Pro.
    Huh???
Apparently all the genius's at Apple thought their customers would get that MacBook and MacBook Pro have the same name of the adapter (Mini-DVI) but are actually different?!?!?!?
I love Apple products but this is the greatest FAIL ever!

What an unbelievably bad and unnecessary product this is

    • Written by from Helsinki

Thank you Apple for first of all NOT making a standard VGA port on the Macbook, but instead making it necessary to spend an astonishing 18 euros ($25!!) on a useless dongle, to be able to connect it to an RGB port. And yes, you still need to, it's actually quite rare for a conference room to have something with an HDMI, let alone a DVI connection!

Second, it's unbelievably finicky, and almost impossible to get it to stick to the mini-DVI port without falling off.

And the worst part - it just broke down. Didn't take even a year.

    Doesn't work with all TV's

    • Written by from Silver Spring

Works fine for presentations on the LCD projectors I've tried. Connecting to a Sony Bravia--the TV doesn't
recognize that a computer is connected, and won't allow you to select the PC input (is dimmed). Workaround: Connected a shutdown netbook via 15pin cable, the TV then can figure out that the PC port is live and can then select the PC port input, then switched the cable over to the Mac, and it then works fine. Am guessing there is probably some
ground or other sense pin that is not properly being seen.

Ive been reading these reviews about the cable being too short and well to all those ignorant people out there its pretty obvious you need another cable in between the adapter to the source being a TV or projector. Overall this product works fine on my sharp tv

This obviously works with my macbook. My problem is that apple didnt include this with the macbook. I realize that there are differnt addapters, bt i really think it should have come with my macbook, so i dont have to pay 20 bucks for one. I had one with my ibook, why not the macbook?

BEWARE! Does not work with the 2009 Macbook White!

Buyer beware! I bought this retail, and nowhere on the packaging does it mention this problem. It is somewhat hidden on this pages (linked to with a little *). It does work great when it works (as my friend's laptop can vouch), but if you have a Macbook White, it just doesn't work!

    Keeps falling out

The adapter falls out of my macbook port at the slightest move! I can hardly work because the monitor keeps loosing the connection (twice already since I started writing this review), and it takes about 3-4 seconds to reconnect each time.
